I remember that referee Colina helped a lot. With his 'special' whistling, he basically trampled the Czechs' taste and combativeness into the game. It was clearly visible at the end of the match. Then came one well played standard situation from the Greeks and that resulted in to a goal, after more than 90 minutes of a constant defense. So congratulations to Greece for winning, and huge thanks to the Czechs, who played the most beautiful football of the whole championship. :)

Lebron James Czech played better football than portugal. They played the most beautiful football on this euro.

One of the most unforgetaible matches was ever played. Chances for score 7:7, big players, big goalkeepers, big coaches. Both teams were great in this match.

Same. Favorite ever euro for me, and this game highlights this euros very well, along with England vs Portugal, England vs France and plenty others. Euro 04 still holds the highest goals/game ratio until this day. The irony though is Greece won it with ultra defensive tactics

I appreciated him especilly in this match and the following ones. Karel Poborský was great at running and dribbling with ball along entire right side of the pitch. He often bypassed several rivals, and tried to pass or score a goal.

What a tremendous match this was. That squad of Czechia was really talented with some household names like Koller, Nedved, Rosicky, Poborsky and Smicer. Baros even managed to end Euro 2004 as topscorer with five goals.

Love the Czech Republic such a great country with so many talented people. The Czech Republic always had iconic football players. Respect from Croatia.

They always show this game when they're marketing each EURO since then. Game for the ages. Both teams loaded with great players, played hard but fair within the rules. Real pleasure to watch even after so many years. That Nedved's shot, that was something else. What a power and velocity that ball had!

I am from Tanzania and i happened to choose Czech as my team for the 2004 tournament my dad and brother were Netherlands and France respectively! Fun fact : Czechs all goals in this group matches came from behind! First game won 2-1 against Latvia Second game won 3-2 against Netherlands Third game won 2-1 against Germany! It is also the only team to ever be knocked out by a silver goal rule! Silver Goal Rule only applied in 2004 and bad luck it fell to Czech vs Greece! It was that if the teams went to extra time and one teams lost in the very first half of extra time then the second half (15 minutes) of the extra time will not be played and the game will officially be over! Czech conceeded the goal with zero minutes if not one minute before half time of the extra time! Greece were lucky that the rule favoured them otherwise the Czech with their spirit of comebacks from the group matches would have pulled it of maybe to win it all together before penalties or to the penalties!

I started the tournament suporting the Netherlands after they missed out on the world cup but after seeing the resilence and tenacity of the Czechs, I began supporting them. Poborsky was awesome. Nedved, Rosicky, Baros, Smicer they were so good and I was furious to see them lose to boring Greece.

we have to congratulate the Greeks but imagine the final between Portugal and Czech Republic. On one side Nedved, Rosicky, Poborsky, Baros, Koller, Galasek, Smicer, Cech. On the other, Figo, Deco, Ronaldo, Maniche, Rui Costa, Nuno Gomes, Ricardo Carvalho and others. It was certainly going to be one of the best Euro finals ever

These Euros were the first tournament I actively watched as a kid. I was on holidays in the Czech Republic when this game was on, and after the match I got a Czech shirt with Nedved's name on it. On the camping site where we stayed, Nedved became my nickname. It's funny that even though we lost, this is one of my favourite Holland games, with the breakthrough of Arjen Robben, the battle of the giants Stam and Koller, a Czech side with Cech, Baros, Nedved, Rosicky and Poborsky, and plenty of scoring chances and attacking play all around. Now that I watched it again, I do think the referee should have awarded two penalties, one to the Czechs and one to the Dutch. Ujfalusi has his arms wrapped around Van Nistelrooy's waist (5:10), and Van Bronckhorst clearly hits the ankles of that Czech winger (9:37). So 3-4 would have been the fair result, though the expected goal ratio was probably more like 4-6. So many missed chances: that Smicer attempt was a sitter, Seedorf not even hitting the target with that effort at 3:09, and then that late Nedved thunderbolt against the crossbar, that would have been goal of the tournament.

Even though we've lost this match, the games between the Czech and the Dutch were always real matches and entertaining to watch, between 2 countries that were at the same high level of football. It was around 1998-2008.

This was the game of the most infamous substitution in Dutch football history: "Robben off, Bosveld on". Bosveld then proceeded to 'guard' Nedved by following him everywhere without ever hindering him in any way or taking the ball of him once.

Beautyfull game. Respect for Czech Republic team from Poland.

I watched this game at the time and it was one of the best games of football I have watched. Two fantastic teams playing great football.

I love Czechs because they have a red chequered eagle on their coat of arms. It's like they are part Croatians :) All best from Croatia!

In 2004, Czech Republic was the most powerful national football team in Europe. They should have won this Euro 2004 but unfortunately they lost against Greece in semi-finals on extra-time... What a team with all his stars ! Baros, Poborsky, Cech, Nedved, Smicer, Uflasil ! Like in Euro 96, they should have won the euro competition. What a pity !

Nedved's injury hurted them.

Czech Republic deserved to win Euro 2004 much more than Greece.It was by far the best team of this competition.

What a great match. An epic match. A lot of top players on both sides. I wish the Czech team had won the tournament. But the Netherlands was also a brilliant team with great players.

@@youreavaragenerd no they weren't. Should lost to czech rep. in the first match and only beat denmark in the last 20m. Best game vs Yuguslavia. A shame vs Italy. 90m with more players on the pitch, fail 2 penalties and didn't score. 3 months after the end of euro 2000, Portugal beat Netherlands in Rotherdam 2-0, for WC qualifiers and they didn't have a single chance.

The first game I ever saw on TV live and what a game it was. Mega stars on both sides, unreal goalies and everyone giving 110%. Even the tackles were next level.. Really dont see games like this anymore.

Petr Cech, Marek Jankulovski, Vladimir Smicer, Karel Poborsky, Jan Koller, Tomas Rosicky, Pavel Nedved, Milan Baros, Tomas Hubschman, Tomas Ujfalusi, David Rozehnal etc so many stars in Czech.

Man, this Czech team was stacked. Baros was a complete beast, Rosicky a genius. What a great team

That Euro was fantastic for us. Sad that we've never played this well since then.

Euro 2004 was ridiculous. Greece won, Bulgaria and Latvia qualified, Germany and Italy didn't reach the elimination phase. And yet Czech Republic was the most solid performing team. Ah, good memories.

I'm not saying this because I'm Czech, but this was one of the best football matches, I've ever seen. I remember how sad I was, when the Greeks scores in last minute of extratime and the dream of gold medal faded away.
