True, I'd forgotten how good it looks. Not a fan of the all orange kits they've been going for in recent years, but that seems to be a trend with international kits at the moment. Germany seem to have had all white kits for a while now.

Neuer aside, who largely played in a different period entirely, van der Sar was not considered less than those, it's just that his club didn't do as well internationally.

Happy days.

This is the first time I’ve been able to rewatch the highlights since I watched the game back in 2008. Italy was simply unlucky that day. 2 possible missed penalty’s and Italy simply couldn’t finish. They were far better than this game showed. Also to note, that Holland squad was exceptional however, how did they get beat by Russia in the knock out round??????

The Russians at that time had a dutch coach, Guus Hiddink. Guus was the coach that had led the S.Korean team to the semi-finals in 2002 WC and the dutch team to 1998 WC semi- finals He knew all the dutch players were well. Their cons and pro's And of-course, understood the way the dutch played.

For the 3rd goal.. you can see the discipline... wants to shoot... but sees Van Bronckhorst in the better position. That is quality football.

@@davidecolombo3507 You don't know the rules. A player can never escape offside by crossing the back line. There was an Italian player behind the line, hè is still part of the game. So together with the goalkeeper there are 2 players in front of Van Nistelrooij, so no offside.
