Economics. The same reason peaches are heavily imported yearly from California to "The Peach State" Georgia. Also Oranges grown in California are heavily marketed in Florida, and peanuts grown in Virginia are sold as "Roadside stand" Jumbo nuts to all the Southern U.S. even though Florida, Georgia, Ala, etc... grow an abundance in all these states each year. Not to mention rice grown locally in Louisana is far more expensive than 'imported' rice. It's really all about the MONEY. Sad, but true.
