    Leave From The Vine is a lot deeper. And I was pissed on how they treated Iroh, and then they pulled that funeral shit. They knew what they were doing, trying to get you to cry. In the cartoon, when Iroh is captured, he uses his cunning and charisma to leave clues for Zuko to follow. Pretending to feel weak and tired. Here, they just kick his ass.

    @colinvandenberg3446 okay, you know friendships can have difficulties and come out stronger, right? Like, in the real world, that happens. The end of the episode shows them re-forming that friendship. It's almost like the problem for you is that it isn't all sunshine and rainbows all the time, and war is actually really horrible and can change people. If your best friend who could stop a war before it starts, suddenly up and vanished for 100 years, and you had to run a whole city in the constant threat of invasion, do you not think you'd form a bit of resentment? This isn't like Aang just stopped visiting for a while.

    I like how they changed the tunnels into a sibling love instead of romantic love. I’ve seen a lot of people complaining about Bumi and his arc but I think they did him justice with how dark they are making the show. He is the right amount of crazy for having to deal with 100 years of war and making very hard decisions but he still has his funny moments. I love the relationship they did with Uncle Iroh and Zuko. The actors for Uncle Iroh and Zuko have done an amazing job with their characters.

  • @Ishplx

    @Ishplx

    My complaint about the Bumi arc is that it 180'd the situation of Bumi and Aang. At the start, it's not a bad choice, like you said, because of the darker tone this series is taking, but that Bumi just instantly reverses himself because, 'Is it so bad to think like a child?' Maybe it would have worked if they gave it another 10-15 minutes of the series to develop his stance change back. It's nowhere near as bad as the next episode, it just feels like I might get whiplash from the sudden reversal with 0 buildup.

    @@Ishplx I don’t think the switch was jarring at all. You got to remember after 100 years of war, Bumi went crazy and carried a lot of resentment and angry with him at least in this adaptation. So while he was fighting Aang and yelling at him, I think Bumi went into a rage/angry/resentment mindset until he snapped out of it from being reminded of his childhood with Aang. I think someone living through 100 years of war and making the hard decisions as a ruler would go into that mindset that’s hard to get out of until you are reminded of a happier time. Also sometimes it is good to think like a child.

  • @Ishplx

    @Ishplx

    5 ай бұрын

    @@isabella91188 I'm not saying you're wrong that it's sometimes worthwhile to have a child's outlook on things, it's just a discontentment I have with what happened. By no means am I saying it's absolutely horrific what they did with the writing (at least in this episode). I just think that your point of Bumi having 100 years of anger, resentment, and trauma as a leader is weird to just immediately be overcome with the power of friendship. However, I've never had a friend show up after 20 years, let alone 100, and tell me to stop being an asshole, so, it's also possible that would be a hell of a slap to the face, so I'll admit after writing out that sentence, I see your point even more, but I'm still standing by what I said that it felt jarring when I first watched it.

    I was so surprised when I saw the Secret Tunnel singing group in this show! It was such a treat!! Also, I’m really glad that they pointed out Katara being more snappy and fiery later in the show! I think sometimes people forget how fierce she can get And the show seemed to actually know how to put a few episodes in from the animated series and into one episode in this one! There are moments in the next episode I don’t like, but this is still enjoyable overall

    I am thoroughly impressed that they managed to weave so many arcs rather seamlessly into one arc. And I think it was a good idea, ultimately. And more impressively is that NATLA still manages to keep really good pacing through the season. 8:19 yup! They did it! They did the thing!!! I jumped for absolute joy when I saw them. Seriously, it would not have been the same without those loveable hippies!!

  • @serenshadow89

    @serenshadow89

    5 ай бұрын

    @@Mdiele1 🙄 I don't think that's all that impressive when you consider how fucking ssssslllllloooooowwwwwwwwwww the pacing of One Piece is. It takes 50 episodes to get like what, 30 minutes of actual story progression? Speeding that up made a lot of sense just to get the pacing somewhat normal. The Avatar adaptation is impressive because other than the first couple of episodes, ATLA has really great pacing -- so an adaptation changing and combining things is a risky move. It could have absolutely obliterated the pacing, progression, and ultimately our interest in the story if they didn't keep a certain balance. And as far as the changes - it's an adaptation - it's supposed to be different. Who the fuck would want a shot for shot remake of the cartoon? What would even be the point of that? They're doing what adaptations should do - pay homage to the source material but do something new and interesting with it. Which is what I think they achieved. It's still a little rough in some spots - but so was the first season of ATLA. I'm sure it'll improve with each season like ATLA did.

But Aang knows killing for any reason is wrong. He wants to make, what is in his heart, the right decision. It’s by staying true to who he that results in the lion-turtle being called to him and where he finds the answer to his dilemma.

    I like this take on Bumi. The cartoon allows characters to be over the top with little explanation, but for a live action, I think the characters need to be grounded a bit more. Bumi is still crazy, in the best way, but how can we not expect him to have been broken by the war. The Earth Kingdom has a pretty crappy history of leaders, but Bumi (while still eccentric) clearly cares for his people and has had to watch them suffer for 100 years. That would break any ruler.

    I must be the only person in the world who is not a simp of Iroh. Like people either do not know at all or completely forgot that he was literally the best general of the Fire Nation, he conquered hundreds of cities, and killed thousand of people lol He just "became good" AFTER his son died and he got to experience the same pain he was inflicting. But it's as if Hitler becomes good bc his mom got killed and people are like "omg I love Uncle Hitler" LMFAO

    The only thing I hate about this episode is how they changed the lore around the badgermole. They were docile before and they're supposed to make tunnels by bending the earth, not using their claws.

    Personally what they did with Bumi, my first watch I was upset. I prefer his original arc, this one felt liek they took an understanding and intelligent yet eccentric king and made him bitter. But thats one of the many reasons I watch reactions. Seeing other peoples views either validate my opinions or make me see new ways to view it. Your views on it helped me reconsider it more. I am still not the biggest fan, but I am more accepting. Though must say, Iroh's parts during this episode were way more impactful on me, I cried at it all.

    So um.. I'm curious. I now, from just your guys' reaction and the episode itself, wanna see the series myself cause it honestly doesn't look too bad. My question now is when does it start getting bad or weird, according to other peoples' reviews of this show?

    Really? I gotta be honest I personally thought the first two episodes were okay, not bad but definitely had a lot of room for improvement. Episode 3 however really was miles better! I love how they made Jet and Omashu plot work together as well as they did! I thought they'd be able to keep that quality and that it would get only better from that point going forward but then came this episode that sadly completely dropped the ball for me.. except for the Iroh and Zuko stuff it was genuinely terrible on most ends in my opinion especially because of what they did to the amazing character of Bumi but also because of how everything else was written. Forcing the Cave of Two Lovers Episode in there also felt not organic to the story at all and I got the vibe they only included it because of the Secret Tunnel meme. Katara's and Sokka's conversation could've happened literally everywhere else. I'd rather would've seen a proper resolution to the Jet storyline but nope. Episode 5 was a highlight again, easily the best episode of the season! The rest of the episodes were, except for a couple outstanding moments, sadly not more than mid again. I took notes after each episode and did a quick rating and yeah that's my take on it. 1 - Aang 6/10 2- Warriors 5/10 3- Omashu 6.5/10 4- Into the Dark 4/10 wtf.. why 5- Spirited Away 7.5 maybe 8/10 6- Masks 5/10 7- The North 4.5/10 8- Legends 5/10 overall I'd give the show a solid 5/10. It's not unwatchable and you can definitely take some great moments from this all over the season but it's far from amazing since a lot of times the writing is simply not good and many changes didn't really work for the story and completely ruined certain characters imo. I'd honestly be okay If it wasn't continued for a second season but I also wouldn't mind If it was

    Does it strike anyone else as odd that Bumi had Iroh sent away with a bunch of soldiers to be put in a prison camp? Isn't Iroh supposed to be a member of the White lotus at this point? Should't Bumi and Iroh know each other?

    I love Aang, I love Iroh and Zuko, but I can't abide how they did Bumi dirty. They turned him into a bitter, crazy man who's only goal here is to teach Aang that he should feel bad that he was frozen for 100 years

    I was definitely in this camp while watching the episode and frustrated that we were hitting the same guilt trip upon aang note that we get every time another character is introduced aa you also mentioned (he was gone, we GET IT). The longer I sat with the change and put it in perspective of the narrative this show wants to tell the more I became “okay” with the change. Still my least favorite part of the show and the story that had the least impact for me but I am more at peace with the change.

    The Bumi change is awful in my opinion. He went from wisened old friend to senile bitter reuler blaming a kid for something he had no control over. There are so many ways to get across the consequences of war that don't involve ruining a good character. Bumi is also the sole reason they find Toph because later he tells Aang to find someone who waits and listens and he's a high member of the white lotus. Bumi wasn't a minor character so it really sucks he's just a whiny bitter old man now. Also badger moles see through feelings? They see through earth bender and taught toph that way.....those changes just don't sit right with me. Most changes are inconsequential and don't change the story but I think these changes do affect what would potentially be season two if it makes it that far
