Both Aretha and jhud failed miserably! It’s like asking an opera singer to sing “Respect”-- it only works if they take the time to learn to have the right attitude, enunciation and breathing. Jhud doesn’t need to sing it as an opera singer but she NEEDS TO HET HER ENUNCIATION, BREATHING, AND EMOTION CORRECT! sorry but this is a Hot Mess for those who are familiar with this genre and song! Screaming and singing loud without proper sustaining of notes doesn’t work here - it exposes her lack of training! In her genre it works perfectly; but not her! Like getting a line dancer to do ballet without proper training first - it just doesn’t really work- Nice that she’s trying different things but Gurl- u gotta do your homework and come correctly-- u can’t just memorize the words and pick up a mic and think that will work in this arena-- it just doesn’t work and I think Jhud realizes it herself!

They both burned the house down with that torch- and not in a good way! They were both horrible. Bad enunciation; improper breathing; wrong emotion for what the song is about-- just horrible! She has a great voice - no doubt- but she needs to do her homework and study this genre before butchering it like Aretha! We love jhud but if u r going to go outside your lane; then study it and come correctly! I would say the exact same thing if a opera singer attempted “Respect” without the proper sassiness and attitude! Go study this genre and THEN Come correct

@@clickonmikey01 Well if you want to look at it that way. That is probably why most people do not appreciate opera. Most of those singers just study and sing it properly without being naturally gifted with a divine voice. All the studying in the world and hitting the right notes does NOT make for a great performance. The voice must sound pleasing to the ear also. To each his own. You like what you like and I like what I like.

Aretha had no rehearsal with orchestra. She sang this song in Pavarotti's key notes, and that is why she is called The Queen of Soul!

Wow what a perfect person to sing this beautiful song! She inspired me to always challenge myself. She looked absolutely stunning and i love the dress! Thank you Jennifer Hudson, i always thought that you had a beautiful voice!

Well she already knew the song as she sang it at a Music Cares event for Pavarotti.

Unfortunately audio (recording audio) wasn’t really that good.

A really unremarkable tone and timbre. She can do the vocal gymnastics but there’s nothing special or memorable or iconic with her voice. She has volume, but nothing that draws you in - like Aretha’s smokiness or Mariah’s honey or Whitney’s bell-like clarity, Patti’s impish creativity. Hudson just leaves me cold. People literally crying in the audience, I’m like… reallllyy? She was screaming and it was thin and shrill.

I love Jennifer Hudson and all that is her.. But, NO!!!

I enjoyed most of her rendition. But those last few notes didn't work. Aretha sounded better, and wisely moved further away from an opera style and sung it Aretha style. There is nothing wrong with non opera singers doing an aria, if they can make it their own and make sure every note comes correct. It can serve to capture the interest of those who weren't opera fans.

She has one of the best voices alive, but I didn’t like this.

I love JHUD, but I didn’t love this performance. She did look beautiful though.

O.K....first of all, I am a HUGE Jennifer Hudson fan. I have all of her CDs and I will continue to support her music and endeavors. However, this is not her genre. Coming from someone who sings opera, this was tough to watch. Her intonation, diction and pitch were off, and she looked nervous. She started singing this song in a soprano-ish range but as it went on, she went to a more contralto-ish range, which is the belting portion of her voice and it's great but not for this song. To sing this song and other opera arias, you must incorporate great technique because Nessun Dorma is not entirely about just belting, but she wasn't even doing that, she was hollering, and it turned into a hit or miss song and it missed. This is not about "hating" on her. Jennifer has to find her true voice and this genre isn't it. Here lately, it sounds as if she's relying more on the hollering portion of her voice and it's losing its vibrancy. Still love you Jennifer!

@@rosieramos9464 And you know what? There's nothing wrong with that. Hell, opera singers don't usually excel at say Johnny Mathis or Frank Sinatra. Those are entirely different genres and disciplines altogether. I LOVED LOVED LOVED Jennifer's JHud CD! I thought that she didn't get a fair shake from her record label on that. However, this is a no for me.

No one is born an opera singer. That song was an opera aria but she was not singing in Opera. She can learn intonation, diction & pitch as well as other techniques like you did.

@@cedricedwards4760 True. Yes, she can learn the necessary requirements to incorporate change. In this instance, it would've been better if she had taken more time to learn her craft for this song. Opera arias will expose weaknesses and it did in her case. She likes to belt but in Opera arias, it requires significantly more discipline than just belting. She went from singing in her head voice and into her chest voice and the transition wasn't good. It's like I said: I love Jennifer and will buy her music but this is not good.

People like her, Aretha and Whitney in the past got invited to participate as „NON-opera“ singers to make it THEIR way…you should inform and read what this idea is all about before complaining again. You should also watch some opera singers‘ and opera vocal coaches’ reactions here on YT about JHud‘s performances and capabilities, they are full of admiration and they are blown off by her. AGAIN, of course there are opera singers out there who can sing opera in a better technical way… they were coached for many years to come there…this was a GUEST performance, and 99% of listeners were fascinated (except you annd half a dozen other people who are „insulted“ by her voice…my goodness…)

Don't argue with Opera purist it's pointless they are so stuck up and stuck on themselves so much it's just ridiculous Whitney Houston for example can sing Opera ,jazz,blues, showtunes ect but by Opera folks who don't nearly have the versitilty to sing her songs are often super haters I take anything they say with a grain of salt
