@@andreasstrife3955 Thor was the first to max out, true, but Jonas was one of the first to bring NES Tetris to the mainstream. His was the first (grainy) footage of reaching 999,999 points on an old emulator on his cellphone (itself an insane achievement!).

At 6:10 vandy is talking about people who played some mobile tetris with wonky scoring - "I've scored 7 million, what's the big deal about a million." Eric: Hold my beer.

the crazy thing is that with the huge multipliers on later levels, a million points is the equivalent of like 150-200k on an earlier level

The most popular mobile version caps at lvl 15 and ive gotten 3.6m on it. But i understand that NES Tetris is way harder as i play on emulator and havent even gotten 500k yet.

@@LetsChat This is why they need a DAS only tournament I feel like. DAS can keep up with tapping at 18 but not 19. Again a good DAS player like green tea can do well at 19 as well but not getting consistent max outs like good tappers that’s why DAS only competitions need to happen.

Legendary. Jonas is proud. He kept this game alive and it was worth.

6,492,500 new world record score, level 146 new world record highest level reached, 1408 lines new world record highest line count. EricICX is the GOAT. Thank you Jonas, Joseph, Koryan, Harry Hong, Ben Mullen, and Cheez for paving the way. Really, the only thing left to do now is to see who's the first to actually KILL Tetris (reach level 235 or so, when the game can no longer calculate the score due to updates taking longer than one frame to finish calculating--freezing the game!)...

One other thing IMO is to get to the point where 29 speed builds are consistently going for tetrises. There was a point where I thought we'd never get there, but after seeing this I'm not so sure

2,770,120 is an insane score in its own right. Having it as a * jump * from an already incredible WR, leaves me in utter awe.

I remember watching nestris in 2017 going "woah thats sick" and now we are getting 6 mil+ points and glitched colors... absolutely insane

Writing "Jonas" as the highscore hit me right in the feels. Insane achievement

First ever 1000 lines, broke 5 mill, and saw colors, all dedicated to jonas. Perfect game imo, people may eventually beat this score but this ones big.

There was some talk a while back about DAS only competitions and how that might work. Now there is talk about a level cap or a countdown timer once your opponent tops out. I think now (or rather after CTWC) would be the right time to experiment with a few different options. World Records - We can keep the existing system with no limits/level caps for high score WRs. Competition Rules - Some kind of level cap/time limit/countdown timer for CTWC Vintage Rules - A game mode which allows DAS players to compete. Maybe we enforce a genuine "kill screen" at level 29 so the emphasis is on stacking skill and efficiency at levels 18-28. Or maybe we remove the scoreboard fix, and the first player to "max out" at 999999 wins.

That little jonas tribute at the end hit a soft spot in my heart. That was a beautiful moment from Eric. Its a shame this new era of players pobably idolize him but never got to meet him.

Damn, I thought the game just completely broke at the end, I didn't realize that the colors blended into the background that well. I guess that's why they're glitched. Congrats!

I started watching the stream around 34:40 and was so confused at what I had just walked into. So lucky to witness history being made!

wow, Huff sets the record for highest live game of 1.9M, then his opponent does more that tripling that record.

Dare I say… peak human evolution has been achieved? This is nuts. I need to find this kids stream on twitch and donate. Absolute insanity.

@@coalbucket9383 i think they mean that the colors didnt show very well on screen (a problem with CRTs is that they have really inconsistent color quality between tvs) so it kinda messed with the ability to see the board

Insane game Eric, huge GGs! For me this just shows the beggining of a really big transition in the way of how this game is going to be played! Once again, congrats!

hearing the commentator talk about the double killscreen etc made me think maybe if the score difference reaches a certain point the game ends, that way the player ahead is inclined to take more risk or force the player behind to take more risks but there would still be a potential of longer killscreen runs.

TE:C has a 2m timer when one player tops out that works pretty well, forces the one behind to take more risks to have a chance to catch up

@@DruidVorse iirc its not a hard cap, but at a certain point the console cant process numbers so high and it crashes, so itd depend on many things independent of the game itself

what the hell. back when i joined in january 2021 and learned about colors a bit after i thought, no chance this ever gets done. Fractal goes and does it on PAL which is amazing, THEN YOU DO IT ON NTSC IN A CTM. eric, you're a legend.

the progress that has been made within the last year or two has been fucking insane. I would not be surprised if before the end of 2024 if we see all of the levels being achieved (255) and seeing a level rollover.

Congrats EricICX! You are the first person to reach the glitched colors starting at level 138 aka Watermelon and the first to reach a dark level of the hard to see 146 via Dusk. However, more challenges awaits for you to complete them… I’m almost to be sad if I failed ALREADY at level 0 - the beginning, just like when at school sometimes while being bullied(sometimes being angry and punching them, but rather wanted to calm down instead of just being angry). Anyway, level 146 is a big goal. Have you ever achieved an even bigger goal - a game crash? Blue Scuti did. You must be the first person to beat Tetris TGM3 Classic Rule Shirase Mode naming yourself as CTM. But what if I said you can get multiple rebirths in a game in NES Tetris? And that is BetaTetris - an AI, of which getting up to 3 rebirths before losing at 205! That’s level 973 if playing forever! That’s also >2 line rollovers - the most difficult of ALL! You have great momentum, EricICX. Want to get past 146? Adjust the settings brighter for more progress. But 148 might be hard to see no matter what, but you have to do this to get past 146 because that’s your only way. Good luck getting a game crash or reaching confetti or a desync!

that's pretty sick! shame the top out came right before my favorite of the glitched colors, level 147 where everything is a bubblegum pink. The gameplay in those killscreen levels is INSANE, I don't know how you people can keep up

The craziest thing is this was only 9 levels away from crashing nes tetris in a tournament so he could've well not only been the first to crash nes but also the first to crash in a tournament and it probably would not be possible to beat since super killscreen rule was implemented after or so.
