Just watching the water level brings back old frustrations from my childhood.

It is always a bit depressing when the video gets to levels you aren't sure you recognize and then ones you clearly don't and realize that is where you peaked as a child.

My peak was at the Technodrome. Never could beat it. Even getting there was a Herculean task only accomplished every blue moon.

Everyone says that, but I played it when it was first released and didn’t find it to be that bad. I think thanks to present day retro reviewers,who weren’t even alive in the 80’s, it’s been given the bad reputation.

I've never realized it before, but the opening themesong sounds a lot like "Stone cold Crazy" :)

Can be beat in 23 minutes? I feel like I played it for an hour and never got anywhere xD.

i played the fucker for years and never beat it... one of the ones i never reached the mountain on...

there is actually a thing in this game that if you are very low on health you do more damage. Like almost one shot everything. Not sure why but i remember that was a thing.

It took me almost 4 years of practice and dedication to finally beat this game and this guy completely destroys it in less than 30 minutes... What am I doing wrong?

Who doesn't love such classic character as boomerang guy and mutant frog?

First of all, that tune which plays when you drive the van is so awesome. I remember playing this when I was 9 or so, the dam level was so dam intense (pun intended). I vividly recall that taking-damage sound when you touch the weeds, I was sweating so bad. Never beat this game though, reached the very last stage but didn't find the boss I believe. Good times.

Damn that game was hard !

strategize i made to to stage 5 out of 6 the bomb stage is the easiest just watch the timer and your life meter and switch turtles when your turtle has 2 squares of life hint use Michaelangelo and Raphael since there your weakest turtles in the game so that Leonardo and donatello can heal your turles in the next stage another good strategy is save your 2 weapons for boss fights like your boomerangs and stuff trust me learn from your mistakes improve your timing and you will be one of the players like me that make it to level 4 or higher oh and if you lose all your turtles you can always use your continues

This game is a classic that brings me much nostalgia. AND HOW DID YOU DO THAT JUMP AT 8:09?!

And we spent evenings getting headaches trying to beat this game, you've done it in this short period of time. Ironic.

I don't care what some gamers think; this game rules. One of the all-time great NES favorites of mine.

This resulted in the TMNT NES game becoming a hybrid of the original comic and 1987 cartoon series, a bridging of the two very different iterations of TMNT. Barron explains further that when the first TMNT movie initially began funding and planning, the details on the story were very brief and only had certain scenes, the kidnapping of Splinter and the burning of the antique store. This is why some scenes are shared between the game and the movie despite them being so far apart in release date.

1st. I remember this being a lot longer. 2nd. I would have been pissed if I finally beat it and got that ending.

The person playing the game is a god. An arrogant god, skipping pizzas. Seriously though, amazing! I only reached Shredder twice, but never beat him.

On water stage, I always thought those were air tanks, for the way the turtles look hooked at them, I didn't know English as a kid either or maybe didn't read the text

the only part thats hard is the electric coral if you dont let your energy go under 2 squares and change turtles and stay away from the seaweed that kills your turtle then you should do good trust me its not hard the dam stage i have a 90 plus percent average of beating the stage i even help my friends with that stage

This, pac-man, mario, *ick tracy, jurassic park were my first games to play around 3 years old.. Loved this game and once maybe at around age 5 got to some boss after jumping on top of buildings in an outside area and died, but will remember that morning forever.

Ah, what good memories of youth with this good old arcade game. Sometimes I still play it from time to time to pass the time thanks to an emulator, and I admit I still love it so much.

I grew up with this game and I play the dam level to relax...and still I’ve only made it to Shredder ONE time in all those 31 years.

OMG, this was super cool. I loved watching someone beat this hard game in under 25 minutes!

Even though this game was hard AF never hated it as a kid, love it every time I sit and played it, even today.

call me crazy, but judging from this players strategies, im considering getting this game

its a good game dont let the negative reviews from people get you down the bomb stage is piss ass easy i made it to stage 5 its like every game out there its trail and error i bet there is people who hate the super mario bro games just because they cant make it over the first pipe people are going to hate any game regardless if its good or not plus this game was on the nintendo power top 20 for awhile and it even hit first place so i dont know whats with the hate this game had for awhile

Great work! I especially liked the way you got through the closing walls bit before the Giant Mouser boss. I hated that part of the game more than the dam stage, back in the day.

An underrated game in todays world of gamers raised on 360 and PS3. Nice vid. It's great to find play-throughs that don't have voic-eovers glazed across them like so much liquid annoyance which make me want to scoop out my eardrums with a melon-baller. Again, nice stuff.

"Now I can turn back to human form." Eh? It's like he could choose when. Did he think he'd give better advice while still a rat?

Splinter turns back into a human using the anti-mutagen gun they get from defeating Shredder. It's the gun he's using during the fight.

Amazing speed run! Made it look so easy for a game that was hard to beat! Legit!

This game is Awesome, one of the Nintendo Classics, I had original cartrige and beated up the game all by myself when i Was about age of 10 ;)

Got this for my bday in 91 beat the game in 98😂. And this guy beats the game less then 30mins nice

Boss at 16:46 when his mouth opens, if you push Start to open the menu screen and close it, his mouth will be closed but you will still see a dim light in his mouth where you can still hit the boss. Figured this out when me and my brothers were playing it as elementary kids.

And at 20:14, on the last level, Mikey finally makes an appearance.

TMNT literally killed my friends NES controllers back in the days xD Especially during that part when you have to swim in the lake (sewer system?). I remember something about bombs and seaweed of death? :P

some of the GREATEST video game music of all time... When someine says TMNT this is the first thing I think of.

Negotiations for licensing rights began in 1986 with various developers on what was then, an underground comic sensation that had an upcoming toyline and TV miniseries that was not established in mainstream circles yet. When Konami was set to the task of making the game, their design documents and resources from Mirage Studios and Surge Licensing were based on the original TMNT comic by Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman and a brief overview of the TV show that debuted in late December 1987.

14 years and I finally beat it, no gamegenie on my virtual console this year. so satisfying. technodrome is such a headache

I used to play this as a kid. Memories are brought back.

I was about 6 or 7 when i got to play this game. Judging by comments many people couldnt beat the water level. As a kid I beat that but never advanced much further. I am now 33 and got the rom for this and have been able to play it again. I could still beat the water level (barely) but again cant advance much further. Seriously what were developers thinking back then? If you were born in the 80s we had the hardest video games of all time. Come to think of it, almost all the NES, SNES, Genesis games i got to play i would say most were never beat. Back then, i guess i just felt that was the norm and never truly got that upset. Kids today would be crying to their parents how hard it is. Back then with no internet, we just accepted it.

I played this game to death and became amazing at it, I still play to this day every now and then

This game proves why Donny is the smartest. Long weapon FTW! Ahh the Batman cars always roaming the streets!

I never could get pass that damn ocean level it was too freaking hard.

Most of this game was based on the original comic, that's why there aren't that many (recognizable) enemies lifted straight from the cartoon. It's also why the cover has that weird thing where everyone's color-coded like Raphael, even though that's actually inconsistent with the game itself. Foot Clan soldiers and Mousers. Rocksteady and Beebop for the first bosses. The rest is self created enemies. There's not much material in the original cartoon (which this game is based on). I'm pretty sure this was meant to be a TMNT game but they had to come with a variety of other treats to make it more interesting, most licencied games from that era did that.

Fun Fact: game makers purposely made these games extremely hard, becyz otherwize it would take u like 10 minets to beat the game. The cartridge couldn't hold a years worth of game like they can today

Wow!!! You actually made the jump at 10:15 with no problems. That jump is SO FUCKING HARD!!!! I'm 14 BTW but I used to play this at my cousins' house. They are 28 and 25 and they used to watch the TMNT in their original days. I used to play this game along with McKids and SMB3 all the time and I always had problems at that GOD DAMN JUMP!

8:13 wow, that was an awesome jump! You basically skipped the whole upper floor of that building just by jumping up to the top platform. Awesome!

I think this is more of a speedrun, but amazing!

this is insane -- I can cruise through this game and barely beat it in under 38 minutes. This is like a speedrun.

Unfortunately never beat the TechnoDrome boss, but now I know how to. Use Scrolls to take out the front claw and the two sentry guns, then use either Leo's Sword or Donnie's Staff to take out the Foot Soldier deploying hatch. With all of those down, putting that eye out of its misery would be as simple as that!

I remember so much frustration with this game as a kid. It took so many attempts just to get to the Dam part and would almost always fail at the Dam part. I couldn't understand how a game based on my favorite cartoon show was so bad. Watching this I think part of the problem was my age at the time and being too inexperienced with games, and visually speaking it was apparently modeled after the comics.

I dont care what any shitty game reviewer thinks... I love this game! Its great, one of the first NES games I played back in the 80s, I bought it right away and spent the next year beating it, I got hours upon hours of gameplay and finally completing it felt like an amazing accomplishment... games back then didnt care about holding your hamd, you had to learn to get through it will pure skills and memorization.. ACE

At times, this game comes under attack for not reflecting the Fred Wolf-produced TMNT cartoon all that well, especially by KZread users who inexplicably do commentary with little to no research whatsoever. A quick timeline inspection from director of the first live action TMNT film, Steve Barron, and details from Bey Logan and the Golden Harvest production help clears up some questions and rumors surrounding the game.

Considering how clunky TVs were back then, that's quite the feat. lol But yea, I probably would have done the same myself.

All negativity about "THAT DAM LEVEL!" aside, this game provided a challenge for players back in the 80's. Let's be real, though. If Shredder and Kraang were ever this clever in the 80's cartoon, our heroes in a half shell would've been turtle soup by now.
