A simple demonstration of the Nerdy Gurdy Basic with a low G chanter string.
The two capos are an elegant way to change between the G and C keys, even with only three strings: chanter, trompette and drone.

Great demonstration. For whatever reason, finding a reliable demo of ordered Nerdy Gurdys is difficult. The mics people use make it sound very shrill and piercing, but the drone strings come out very nicely here which is what I imagine is closer to in person than most other videos.

Most gurdies, mainly the more traditional ones are high pitched and have a rather bright sound. Most phone mics cannot really reproduce those sounds well.

@@elektrovolt for sure. I also very much prefer lower tuned hurdy gurdies. Like to get my fix of that bagpipes x cello sound. Such a fantastic instrument and an otherworldly sound. This question is likely better served to them directly, but do you know if nerdy gurdy accepts payment plans to ship once payment is received in full?
Just received my Nerdy kit. I have been waiting many months for it. My wife has a beautiful hurdy gurdy from France and i would never touch it. This will be mine own. Congrats on success of this product! Worth the wait.

This is a no brand viola G string. The Alphayue viola G will be just as good if not better.
Well it certainly has never sounded better - good job!

Dank! Dit is de Pyramid viola G snaar, het exacte type weet ik even niet. Een Alphayue of Corelli Crystal zou ook goed moeten werken, vermoed ik. Veel plezier met je instrument! Als je vragen hebt kan je ze altijd stellen!

@@elektrovolt Bedankt voor je reactie. Ik wil wel zo een altviool G-snaar proberen, vind ik wel mooi. Ik zit helaas nog steeds te wachten op mijn NGB. Volgens PostNL is hij 8 dagen geleden aangekomen in Engeland, maar vanwege die lullige Brexit moet ik vlink bijgetalen: niet alleen douane enz. maar ook nog extra 20% BTW (voor de tweede keer, nota bene), anders sturen ze het terug naar Enschede. Balen! Maar nu moet hij echt morgen afgeleverd zijn, hoop ik.

@@sekarenggal6305 ja, helaas blijft een pakket lang bij de douane hangen. De BTW/VAT wordt trouwens maar eenmaal gerekend als het goed is, die betaal je in je eigen land. Jouw instrument heeft als het goed is ook een lage G snaar, deze worden nu standaard gebruikt.

@@elektrovolt Je hebt gelijk, Jimi, en ik heb niet goed gekeken! Ik heb inderdaad geen BTW in NL betaald, dus mag eigenlijk helemaal niet klagen. Ik word meteen boos op alles wat met Brexit heeft te maken!

I'm sure there is a way to dampin the sound of the clicking of the keys. Idk how it is made but maybe cushion under them of some kind will help?

I always felt like the clicking sound was part of the charm of the gurdy lol. And you barely hear it when actually playing a song

Yeah, you can add a strip of felt as a cushion between the bottom of the keys and the soundbox

Yes, the Nerdy Gurdy Basic comes pre-assembled and finished. A four string kit version is coming too.

Dit model is relatief nieuw en wordt door ons gebouwd voor Nerdy Gurdy. Iedere 1e van de maand rond het middaguur worden de beschikbare exemplaren op de Nerdy Gurdy website geplaatst, dus als je er eentje wilt moet je er snel bij zijn :)

@@BlueVansCapofAwesome Ja zeker wel, vanwege het 'basic' concept gebruiken wij een blanke lak. Dit model is vooralsnog alleen volledig speelklaar geleverd, mocht je zelf het avontuur aan willen gaan, dan zou je eens naar de zelfbouw versie kunnen kijken. Bouwen is niet heel moeilijk, maar vooral het goed speelklaar maken is niet eenvoudig wanneer je zelf nog geen ervaring met draailieren hebt.

@@elektrovolt Ja, dat is het deel waardoor ik nerveus zou zijn het zelf in elkaar te zetten. Wil niet straks ofwel een slecht geluid hebben, ofwel de kit voor niks hebben gekocht..!
