NeoBar Application for Endotracheal Tube Securement

Hi friends, in this video we are going to talk about using a NeoBar as a securement device for an endotracheal tube (ETT) in neonatal patients. This device was designed to protect the patient’s palate and reduce the occurrence of extubations. The NeoBar comes in eight color-coded sizes and with neonatal skin-friendly tabs that reduce the use of potentially harmful tape of premature skin.
To use the NeoBar, select the appropriate size with the included measuring tape. The device should not rest on the patient’s lips and the taps should be applied right in front of the patient’s ears. When applying the NeoBar, make sure the patient’s skin is clean and dry, avoiding the use of alcohol to prep the skin. Warm the NeoBar tabs either in your hands or using a heel warmer to ensure the best securement to the skin. Apply taps to cheek bones with the platform centered above lips and hold firmly in place for 60 seconds. Wrap 1/2” white or cloth tape completely around platform once, then hold ETT below the platform and wrap tape around both the tube and the platform. If you need to remove the NeoBar emergently, carefully cut the thin portion of the NeoBar with blunt scissors at the junction of the bar and tab. Remove the NeoBar and attached ETT leaving the tabs to be removed at a later time.
