How To SECURELY Tape A Neonatal Hand PIV

Hi friends, in today’s video we are going to talk about taping and securing peripheral IVs (PIVs) in a neonate’s hand. All the information presented in this video is based on the new 2021 guidelines and recommendations of the Infusion Nurses Society (INS), which is the authority on all things related to vascular access devices. This information is completely up-to-date at the filming of this video.
There are two key things to remember when taping a PIV. First, your securement method cannot interfere with your ability to routinely assess and monitor the access site. This means that you must be able to see your insertion site! Second, your taping cannot impede vascular circulation or the delivery of the prescribed therapy. This means that your taping and dressing can’t be too tight or alter the patient’s circulation and perfusion in any way.

The fantastic neonatal arm used in this video was designed specifically for practicing securement methods of PIVs in neonates. This task trainer was designed and developed at the University of Missouri Shelden Clinical Simulation Center.

Hello Anna....Good video! If you send me an e-mail address I will send you info on an IV Arm board that has velcro straps to reduce time and amount of tape on skin.
