OK OK I admit it!!! I fell in love with Nena when this song was released in 1983. I was 16 years old. I would sit around watching MTV just waiting for them to play the video. Eventually, I recorded it on VHS and watched it over and over and over. Great song! Great video! Beautiful girl!

As an American in the USAF stationed at Bitburg AB from 80-83, during the tensions and buildup of NATO vs Warsaw Pact, and the immediate expectation of hostilities between the West and USSR. This song held a very significant meaning in that day, and these forty some years later it is still as relevant to me. Many friends and family, times and experiences just a second away, and a lifetime away, all at once. In slow motion and then here and gone in an instant. May Nena (Gabriele) have a long and fulfilling life of her own delight. Everyone is young once, and even younger, in our latter days...

Да - посмотрите ещё видео концерта группы Ohne Maulkorb. Там Нена так всех к концу завела что и зал и сама группа прыгают от радости и именно то что называется ловят кайф от музыки. Это настоящий панк-рок а самом чистом виде. Учитывая то что Нена поёт на немецком и концерты всегда проводятся сложнее чем работа в студии это вообще нечто фантастическое.)))

When spears were the weapon of the day, well, now mistakes hold a whole different consequence...in depth and, how many they effect. If we were only as smart and clever a resolution as our capabilities to destroy, maybe we would have a chance.

It is amazing how indifferent the German public met this brilliant song. I was a teenager in the USSR at those times, and even we - Soviet pioneers - were delighted with Nena. (It was later that our younger sisters became Modern Talking fans.)

I remember this being on the radio here in Australia. Well the radio stations all played the english version "99 Red Balloons" while us kids all bought the German version to blast out on our hifi's on the weekends.

Happy times for me I was born 1965 …. Melbourne Australia night life was so satisfying and positive !!!

Nena got English-speaking people to sing in German. Quite an accomplishment. MTV was never the same.

I was stationed in Stuttgart, Germany when this song came out. It makes much more sense in the original Deutsch than the English version.

cant beleive i was on my pre-teen when i first heard this and loved it, im in my late 50s now and still cant forget the joys this song gave me back then and up to now,

Man this was always such a beautiful and sexy song, especially in German. Her vocal quality is so feminine and pure. I kinda understand some of the words now, including her little Vielen Dank at the end.

Nenas got a great voice,I love both versions of this song and love the fact that the drummer 's not half timing it on the hi-hat.

I'm actually quite shocked researching this song as it was a fave when I was a teenager. Someone here wrote that this performance was March of 1983. That was the month the song was released. It seems like the audience isn't going crazy so likely they had just heard it for the first time. The reason I am so surprised is that the German version reached #2 a year later in March 1984 on Billboard in America! 😳 I always thought of it as a cult hit but not so widespread and also the fact that it didn't chart in the USA in English! (I'm a nerd about this kind of thing 🤓.) I remember hearing the American version on the radio too.

Always preferred the German version. Nena has a great voice that sounds even better singing in her mother tongue. This little song has a very catchy tune to match, although looking at the translation im still not quite sure what its all about, if anything! No matter though, great music is great music regardless!

That gave me deja vu! I went right back to the living room at home when I was a teenager. Can recognize the host from ZDF. I was fifteen at the time, and watched it at home on Funen in Denmark, where, in addition to the one Danish channel Danmarks Radio, we could watch German television. Also saw Dali Dali and other shows from West Germany. Wow thanks 🙏 for showing that.

I was stationed in Germany in the late 80's. I really love ❤ that country. The people there were so nice! The Deutsch language sounds so hot to me, even though I don't understand it.
