Hank is a Martin D-28 and not a D-45. Roscoe just misspoke like we all do sometimes. Lets not make a big deal out of it.

I read about Neil owning Hank's guitar a few years ago....the best dream I ever had, was that I met Neil Young. I mentioned how cool it was that he owned Hank's guitar. Before I knew it, he came back and handed me the guitar to play. I started crying as I strummed those strings. I woke up. It was a good dream.
in part Eric, him speaking , reminds me of Neil Young [tone and intonation] in the fashion he speaks, and the way he uses his voice.
I saw Neil Young on a TV show, where he was surrounded by about 9 different acoustic guitars, and each song he played, he used a different guitar. Each one gave a completely different tone, sound and vibe. Talk about a Master. Neil is the Ninja of the accoustic guitar.
Eric Amble helped me survive the 80s!!

And if he's any kind of man, he'll put that guitar in his will to Shelton. Neil was always one of my favorite musicians but he lost my respect over the past couple of years. Let's hope he redeems himself a bit.

I would say he's more of an artist than a musician. I think of a musician as someone who uses known standards and keeps things within the boundaries. Artists go outside of those boundaries. Innovative artists always bring change that sets new standards. Guitarists who are artists: Berry, B.B. King, McGuinn, George Harrison, Hendrix, Duane Allman, Young, Iommi. Artists change the way things are done. Lots of great guitarists but they didn't change the way the instrument is played. You can do this with every instrument and singer.. there are very few that change things.
Crooked Line. One of my favorite albums.

Thanks for this story. I've been following Roscoe for a while, after hearing his wife's tape recording Blood on the Tracks (see also Mary Lee's Corvette). I just loved the ending of the story. Now...off to find some Ohio Blue Tip matches and Crooked Line. Cheers.
Neil has always been authentically Neil . I love that he has his NS10s in hand rubbed wooden cabinets .
One of the best interviews yet. I nominate Neil Young as most interesting man in the world after this interview. Owning Hank William’s guitar is enough on its own. Thanks guys for the great stories
The sheer and utter joy emitting from Roscoe as he spins this tale of hero worship is one of the best things I have ever seen on the internet. I mean every word of that in the best possible way. Generally, one never believes for a moment that one could possibly meet the people who, without ever knowing you, have such an impact on your life. It is clear the effect this encounter had on him and the lasting impression it made. And Roscoe being a person who does not at all come across as "star struck". Clearly a dude who had been around more than his fair share of famous people. Otis, your channel is great! Not being all that much of a country fan, it is through your channel that I became familiar with Kenny Vaughan's playing and he has become one of my favorite musicians to enjoy. Thanks again for your creating this channel and keep up the excellent work!

glad you enjoyed it!
First heard Neil’s 1st record in high school, started playing guitar after hearing “Cowgirl in the Sand” on 4 Way Street, saw Neil in concert , Linda Ronstadt was the opening act ( with Henley &Frey). I can still kinda get into my patched jeans… Loved this interview, thanks so much!
Even though I am not a musician and know nothing about instruments nor equipment, I really enjoyed this story and not only because I'm a Neil fan. Great story about a very memorable event.
What a great and funny story. I really like Neil’s music and style too. Different by design. I saw him and crazy horse around 1987 in Dallas during their garage band tour. Awesome
I love these stories ,
Love this. Great story and thank you for sharing. I'm also a big Neil Young fan. How cool that you got to work with him and hang. So cool, congrats!!
Wow, now Eric Ambel! You've got the best musicians as friends! I'd like to hear more stories from Roscoe. He must have lots of them!
Great story-its awesome to know that Neil is an artist chasing the muse in an authentic way no matter what the project. 100% inspiring.
Oh man.....sooo gooood!
Crazy, am listening to this while driving to work And then he says "I'm from a small town outside Chicago called Batavia. I was on my way to Batavia when he said that. Mind blown
To record Neil would be great in itself. To only be in the presence of Hank’s guitar would be awesome, not to mention having the privilege to play it. Otis, you thanked me a while back “for giving a damn”. That I do. While shooting pool earlier in the week, a young lady plugged the jukebox. She asked me to choose the songs. I was gonna turn them on to your music. I don’t understand how all that works, but, this new-fangled rig didn’t have your music in it. I told them it was BS that your works aren’t recognized & ask their vendor about it. You’ve paid your dues & continue. I do give a damn !!

Been following Eric since his 80's Del Lords days. What a great NYC roots rock band that was. And he's done so much great stuff since then both playing and producing. Look forward to hearing more from him. So many interviewers get in the way of the person they interview. I love the way you just sit back and let them tell their story.

Thank you guys. That’s good stuff.
" I'd just been married about a year, and I thought, what if they ask me to stay? I'd have to call home and say I gotta stay". Ha ha. I've been a lifelong Neil Young fan. I've seen him 5 times and the songs he plays on that Martin guitar have always been my favorites.
That barn studio is my end game. Holy grail. 🥹

More barn? Less barn? We need to know!
Hi Otis. This is a top story. Big Neil fan. Thank you for this as always.
BEST ANALOGY, FOR PASSING A JOINT... EVER 🤣💜
Thanks
I think that Neil bought his ranch on the strength of his sales of "Everybody Knows This is Nowhere" and "After The Gold Rush." He was already living out there by the time he recorded "Harvest," and a photo of him and the Stray Gators playing in the barn our there is depicted on the back of the album cover.
The reason for The hard R is he is from Canada and in parts of the open plains they talk similar to the Northern USA Plains from Upper Nebraska up and Western parts of the Midwest if you got to ever hear a person from there, Corb Lund and his band with his wife called Corb Lund is very similar.
Awesome. Truly.
Otis..! That is one bad ass cool story..!! Thanks Otis..and Eric.!👍🏼❤️

I have seen him play that guitar onstage. He told us about the guitar, and did a few songs on it. The tone was like no other.
Awesome story!
I love Neil Young and his music. I've been trying for years to play the acoustic guitar like Neil does, and I'm still working on it...maybe someday.....
I love this story
Otis, Larry Cragg would be an interesting dude to interview. He’s pretty out there. He also has a massive collection of guitars and amps he supplies to top talent when they record here in the Bay. Also was one of the first guys to get into what became the sport of mountain biking in Marin County. Still has a little workshop in Marin.

I have always seen Eric’s name in the liner notes on The Bottle Rockets’ albums. It’s great to put a face to the name. I don’t think I knew that he was from the Chicago area. Interesting Neil Young story. Sounds like Neil is doing pretty good for himself.
