Great show and great sound.

Some notes about the recording:
I don't usually source shows from bootlegs, but this is an
exception. I just got this from a UK Eric Clapton collector who
follows the Japanese bootleg releases. This recording of the first
show of 1976 Japanese Tour is from a previously uncirculated
master and contains a previously uncirculated second encore of
Cortez The Killer. This is a recent release from the apparently
exclusive Tarantura label and is supposed to be direct from the
original cassette masters.

I am totally crying here. If only I could share these songs with my brother again. We grew up in the cold dark winters in Minnesota listening to Neil on cobbled together hi-fi, home-made speakers, and cast off furniture in parent's basement. We would tramp across snow fields in moonlight to hang out with a friend and spin albums. That raw sound of the Nowhere album was IT! Brother Paul passed in 2016.

That's a good remembrance. I was in high school when CSN&Y were at Woodstock and I remember Neil's solo career emerging well at the time. You probably had winters in Mn like Neil had in Canada growing up. That's nice.

Neil doesn't know this but he's been riding shotgun with me for the past forty or so years. Through all the happiness and heartache and laughter and tears. He's been right there the whole time. If you ever need a favor, Neil, don't hesitate to ask. I owe you big time. Thanks for the soundtrack to my life.

19 on a motorcycle to a cabin in Wisconsin. Saw bears caught fish and ate raccoon. Listened to Neil, only tape I had. Indians took my motorcycle away from me on the way home, but caught up wth me an hour later walking down the road. Gave the bike back. They filled the tank. Said they were just fun in. Listened to Neil on the ride back. The tape had new meanings since my ride up.

I’ve been following Neil Young since 1970 when I thought everyone knows this is nowhere. I was in high school back in the Chicago suburbs. Then came after the gold rush and harvest when I graduated high school. I remember one ice cold winter morning waking up to song i have never heard before. I thought I was dreaming? It was sugar mountain! I never heard before because his first album didn’t make it to Chicago for years later. I was a hippie with long long hair back then. Well I’m living in so. Calif. now and I’m 66 and still listening to Neil. Saw him twice in Chicago and once in Toronto! I still don’t like what happened to him and Peggy Young after 30 years of marriage! I graduated H S in 1972 best years of my life. Dominick

After the show we invited Neil to share a bottle of wine at our table. One of my best memories. In 2013 he released Live at The Cellar Door from tapes recorded at those shows. I first saw him in the mid-eighties in St Pete, with some of the band I saw him earlier at Farm Aid with on TV, but this reminds me of laying in bed one summer night, 9th grade, with the windows open: Our neighbor had rented out her cottage, ~15 yards away, to a guy who was Cranking "Live Rust" stem to stern shortly after it first came out... Fortunately: His windows were open too...

Greetings again Neil Young ❤️ Again one of your song set this memory alive; AS I sit in the early spring sun, The beams of light dazzle my being and the warmth fills my soul. The molecules in which I show substance appears to me. The drawing together of these create the physical body I have chosen to appear to others. The total Ness of my being is full and complete. I am Nothing and I am everything. The blue lights that appear before my eyes are likened to my home land. The silver white glow amongst the perimeter of these lights are the energy that comes from home to rejuvenate the body as it reminds physical. There is a strength, a purpose a full filament in this feeling. A wholeness, that fills me,feeds me, nourishes me and and finally Loves me I wrote this 2-26-1990. Thank you for your music it reminds of a road I traveled and am still on. Blessing My ❤️ friend. Donna❣️🎶

Grew up probably a decade later in the Washington D.C. area - my brother was 5 years older - so he got to see so many shows I was too young to attend - but I had my share of great ones in the 70's & 80's. That city tends to make some performers feel their shows should take on some sort of political 'relevance' - even for some who were rarely (if ever) prone to do that - so it could result in some pretty intense shows.

Saw this tour---later in March, in Germany---stationed there in the Army, went with other Army buddies, even met my brother at the show who was serving in another part of Germany. Great show--first time I recall seeing Poncho in a Hockey Jersey. Weird, because got out of the Army, went home and saw him on this Tour at Chicago Auditorium in Octoberish 76--with a bf who too just returned from Army in Korea--Neil and The Army, what a combo. First time I recall him using a large Fan on stage in Chicago for the new Hurricane song. Had the Wooden Indian, and Palm Tree on stage there too.

HaHa! I had no idea! I was way into the Dead and wasn't following Neil that much until my brother showed up at my door in October 1978 and literally dragged me out to the Rust Never Sleeps show. I was the last person in the stadium to leave my seat. I just sat there in stunned amazement with the sound ringing in my ears. My brother had to drag me out of Chicago Stadium that night. I've seen deal on the horse at least 15 times since then show.

  • @billr2375
    @billr23753 жыл бұрын

Just recalled, before seeing this tour stop that same week in March of 76 in West Germany--Neil did an interview on Armed Forces Network, the Radio station GI's would get to listen to overseas. Long before Internet, and little TV there back then, so hearing him interviewed was a real treat. I remember sitting in an Army jeep, at a roadside stand German countryside, sipping a German beer for lunch.. He talked over a little portable radio I had, about a planned concert some private producer was putting together near Neils Ranch in N. Calif, and how there was no access roads to accommodate traffic or emergency vehicles and was dead against it...then spoke of looking forward to the concerts as he knew, along with the European locals, there would be many GI's and he always enjoyed entertaining us. It meant a lot, hearing that and then knowing would see him and Crazy Horse in a couple days. It meant a lot, that interview and subsequent concert when you're far from home for a long time never knowing if the Russians really would invade--to hear a little part of home from Neil through music.

This sounds like it was recorded from mics out in the audience, and done so very well considering it's 1976. Crickey, there are audience boots that were sanctioned in the 80s, thus no fear, that don't sound anywhere near this good. So good to hear some well-recorded live music of Neil from this, a fave period, 72-76. Cheers!!
