I heard Neil and that homeowner have been in a rather ugly legal battle for a while. Neil tried to claim squatters rights. He claims to have evidence that he's lived their for years but has yet to produce it. The judge tried ruling by saying, "You're a seal, get out of my courtroom." But Neil did not recognize that ruling and continued to be an issue.

I don't think this can be considered a "rescue" since Neil has been coming and going from this community for a few months. I think they even chipped his tail after the third time just to confirm whether or not it was the same seal, which is was.

From what I have gathered his mom was sperated from the colony and gave birth to him on the local beach so it is his home, naturally. He still gets all of his own food and no one is supposed to get within 10 feet of him (except the people that attach the tracker, which falls off when he molts). They expected him to leave on his own during breeding season and find a lady. While he did travel to Patagonia for the season, he came back on his own! So he obviously likes it there and I think the community is doing a wonderful job of living with Neil instead of making him live around them.

*Hears gurgling noises outside* Friend: "Wtf is that sound?" "Oh, thats Neil." Friend: "Neil needs to lay off the Taco Bell."

I would offer him some fish so I could pet him safely.

They won't let you. He goes and gets fish from the ocean all the time. He still goes and hangs out with other seals during breeding season. Can't let him get to spoiled or he'll get picked on by the bigger seals.

that's a terrible idea... unless you want to get him killed. You can't pet him and you can't feed him.

This soon to be young fighter will someday soon will have to fight for the ladies so hopefully many are enjoying his company while they can before he sets off to face his first Bull fight against a older and larger Male beach master. Elephant seals are my 2nd favorite of the Seals.

😂 this is so insane to me lol out of all the seals to have chilling around your town enormous and very territorial Elephant seals are probably not the safest haha. Dont mistake Neil for one of his cute and cuddly seal/sea-lion cousins cause Elephant seals reach over 1500 pounds and love fighting anything that moves 😂

I read people shouldn't pet seals so they do not get accustomed to us and dont fall prey to hunters and bad people in general. But this one's distrust for people seems to be fucked up already anyway, so do you then sometimes give him the pats and scrubs he deserves?

Yes he's used to humans but at the end of the day, he is still a wild animal. Moving him on just-in-case is not a terrible crime. Besides.. He'll be back! Blocking someone's driveway. Again. And folk will think "Ahh there he is the bloody legend himself. On me driveway. Damn it Neil. I need to go to work." The cycle repeats.
