From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:
Jonathan Livingston Seagull is the soundtrack album to the 1973 American film Jonathan Livingston Seagull, recorded by singer-songwriter Neil Diamond and produced by Tom Catalano. The album marked Diamond's return to Columbia Records, and grossed more than the film itself. It is Diamond's ninth studio album, and his first album after his successful 1972 live album Hot August Night. It won the 1974 Grammy as Best Original Score Written for a Motion Picture or a Television Special.
Irvine Herald reviewer Willie Freckleton said that "Be" is "classical Diamond singing a very powerful ballad."
Neil Diamond's subsequent album "Serenade" and "Jonathan Livingston Seagull" have earned combined 27 gold discs in Australia. As of September 1976, the soundtrack was bigger success than the movie and it grossed 12 million dollars (movie grossed 2 million dollars).

When I was young and lost, I listened to this album on the radio, bought the cassette, then watched the movie in cinema, and bought the book. A short and simple book with many pictures of the seagulls. Though the movie was rolling around a seagull, some may found it boring, but it gave me some kind of strength to stand up to the turmoil of life and keep on fighting for my life. Thank you for uploading as I lost the tape many years ago, so I am so glad to hear the album again. If there is the movie, it will be even better. Lastly, I can't believe time flies so fast that it was 50 years ago as I still feel I am young today. Blessings.

My six year old self remembers listening to this with my Dad. He loved having this on when he did work around the house.

Brilliant! I’d forgotten all about this. The book, of the same title, on which inspired it, as I remember is really about the desire and struggle to become the best you can be and the price to be paid for that. It’s largely forgotten now but it must be 50 years since I read it and it has stayed with me.
