The exteriors of the houses in Ramsay Street are filmed in a real street (Pin Oak Court). It would not be practical to film inside the actual houses because of lack of space, ect (not to mention the disruption it would cause to the real occupants). The interior/exteriosr are filmed separately then cut together at the editing stage, so the action seems continuous.

The producers of the show pay the real residents of "Ramsay Street" ( actually Pin Oak court in Victoria ) two or three hundred dollars a week to stay out of the way during filming. Not bad for doing virtually nothing.
