NEIGHBORHOODS OF PITTSBURGH - MANCHESTER
What a week. Manchester was such a vivid and intense experience. I have a fantasy of buying one of those big ol antique houses and restoring it. Too much time in fantasy land is bad for the soul. What neighborhood should I cover next? I'll be out of town this week but we will resume shorty. I'll keep going as long as folks are enjoying these!

Dude your brave for going into someone's house who's obsessed with manicans. Best video yet.
Do what you think would be cool, but for now these Pittsburgh videos are magical; especially for the people who live here ^_^

And people who LIVED there. my mom is in her 60s and hasn't lived there since 1980ish but is fan of these vids
Keep up the amazing series, I personally prefer the fact that you are doing Pittsburgh because there is not many people or films that give it attention like other cities such as New York and such. That being said I will keep watching because I like the perspective you bring to the table and the incredible cinematography. In short there is a lot of Pittsburgh that I feel like still needs explored but if you want to add a bit of spice with other cities I would watch.
Not done till you do every neighborhood, even fairy wood. Otherwise every Pittsburgher will remind you forever

Yep. Please come to Brighton Heights.
And definitely include cool little suburb neighborhoods that are older like Crafton, Ingram...many tiny cool places are tucked in between better known larger places. Pittsburgh is very much a gem
Keep to Pittsburgh until you run out of neighborhoods then branch out to other cities. Pittsburgh is very underrated as you’re finding out. A lot is happening here with very old beautiful neighborhoods

Marilyn R Kennedy I love that I’m learning so much about the other city in my state. It seems a lot more friendlier than Philadelphia tbh with some similar neighborhood vibes.

Your comment is so true! I moved away from Pgh for personal reasons. But,That being said it is a beautiful city culturally, and big spirit of people helping people.I have lived in other cities and those two things are what I miss the most and have only found that in Pittsburgh.

I’m from Pittsburgh and now living in SC. I grew up on the Northside, went to St.Peters Scholl and North Catholic HS. These videos bring back growing up, running up and down the city steps.
Dean is the new Rick Sebak. 👍🏼 Keep it in Pittsburgh. If you run out of city neighborhoods, you can always hit up the thousands of little towns all around Pittsburgh. Ambridge, sharpsburg, Avalon, McKeesport... you’ll never be out of work. Eventually QED will hire you.
MOAR PGH PLS. I'm a born and raised Pittsburgher, but haven't lived there for 10 years now. I get back pretty often, but I still miss it a lot. It's so nice to see my hometown in such great quality videos. And I'm learning a few things I didn't know either. This is lovely stuff. Keep it up.
Pittsburgh neighborhoods is *a great series. However, your style is why we are all here. You edit and shot with this super clean and unique style that feels "homemade" but you can tell it takes great skill to achieve. I would love for you to do other locations as well. Maybe do the other city's on like a special once a month or every couple of months. I just want to see you do more videos. You just do whatever feels right. You have a great eye and the reddit **bump will hit you again with the next great series you start. Just keep evolving. Edit: grammar Edit: spelling
Keep it pittsburgh!!! Love your neighborhood episodes it shows the world what Pittsburgh is really about the....people and the community's and according to rick sebak the food!! Keep up the good work😎👍🏽👍🏽
Hey Dean, 🙋🏽♀️I was born in Pittsburgh and moved to Huntsville Alabama when I was 15... I’ve been homesick for the last 20 years. I get to visit sporadically but I always appreciate when someone shows my hometown. These videos are awesome and thank you 🤗
You could make a Netflix documentary out of this. Going around to popular cities where each Season is a new city, each episode a new neighborhood
I’m really considering moving to Pittsburgh so these have been so inspirational. Please keep it to Pittsburgh and explore different themes of the city maybe? More details of the neighborhoods perhaps.
I love the way you are able to draw stories out of these locals you come across... very cool series
Love the essence of the city you capture in each neighborhood

I fully echo your sentiments!
I've been a lurker for a while now but I recently drove past you while you were filming your bit on the robots in Oakland. How can I like these videos more than once?? Honestly your storytelling is incredible and so easy to watch, your cinematography is captivating and your style is unique. As someone very new to Pittsburgh, I've been mesmerized by these videos. Thank you for sharing! PS, if you ever wanted to do another neighborhood meetup like the one you did in the Hill District video, I think that would be a great idea! Spark a little neighborhood get together.
Great video series! I love the story you tell with each Pittsburgh community!
I beg you to keep going as long as possible. I'd watch you go anywhere in and around pittsburgh. I would definitely watch other cities as well. You have honestly changed how I view my city and for the better. My wife and I have started having discussions about moving closer to the city again. We've gotten further away as the years have passed and children have arrived... But after watching your videos, I now feel that we are robbing our kids of all the culture and people that embody our city. I want my kids to know how special this City and its residents truly are. We just found your channel 4 days ago... So it says alot that in 4 days, you have us talking about moving to the city or very close. As of now, we are in the South Hills. We have staid here because of the schools out here. West Jefferson Hills School District has a wonderful curriculum but I wonder now..... What is more important?? Culture or schools... I'd like to have both. Thank you for all the time and effort you put in to these videos, Dean! You are becoming Pittsburghs NEW RICK SEBAK... And in my opinion, there is no higher praise for what you are doing.

@@matmcpaul9060 absolutely! Dean seems to have a natural talent for what he does. I would love for him to take the torch from Ole Pittsburgh Rick! Lol
I love Pittsburgh. I moved away and like sooo many, I moved back, and stayed to raise my sons. The Hill are Home and we all love the hills. Please do Knoxville/Mt. Oliver/ Bon Aire Please Please. Great old communities that touch each other and blend together to make typical Pittsburgh neighborhoods.
This is a few months old, but I love this series and would like to see other cities as people are comfortable around you. Your artistic sense and humor are evident which is a great gig if you can get it. I’m sure this is just scratching a surface for you Dean.
Dude I cannot wait to see you advance this series in other cities. You do something insanely valuable, which is show an *internal* perspective of these neighborhoods. Doing these in major cities all around the country could really make people view their neighbors in a much more nuanced, informed light. These videos show nothing but the warmth and optimism that radiates within an array of wildly different American microcultures.
The music you select and the way you use it is PERFECT.
DEAN, Stay in the Burgh! Would also love to see some episodes on the nearby river towns. I have businesses in Ambridge, Rochester, and Monaca and would be honored to show you around. Love these videos!
On one of my trips to Pittsburgh, I watched a TV program that said the city has 92 neighborhoods as close as they could determine. Good luck!

Yep! It's a bunch of boroughs dressed up in a trench coat pretending to be one city!
I just watched all of these the whole way through. You have a real talent for capturing the city and its people. I would keep it to Pittsburgh for now. I’d love to see Squirrel Hill and Homewood, and I also feel like I should be paying to watch these, they’re such quality. Thank you again.
So SO happy there will be more of these. Enjoy the time with mom. Can't wait to see what neighborhood you pop into next...and what unique collections the residents have in their homes.
Just discovered your Neighborhoods of Pittsburgh series today. Watched three episodes straight... and you've earned a new sub. I think sticking to Pittsburgh for the time being isn't the worst idea, but in the long term, why limit yourself? You have the talent and personality to make a big impact in YT land, in my opinion. So maybe if you run out of neighborhoods in "Pittsburgh proper", start expanding into the surrounding cities? I'm partial to McKeesport ;). Or even expand into other states, or other towns in PA. Whatever works. You should keep it up either way. Cheers!
I love your videos!! I hope people outside of Pittsburgh are watching. It is a great place to live!! Would love if you did Morningside or Sharpsburg :)
I think I’m obsessed?
I’m watching these in order and so far, I think Manchester has been the most Mr Roger-esque neighborhood with all the nice people who love and care about their community
Dean in my opinion these episodes are your best videos because there just so normal and show off your great cinematography skills :)
Dean, your perspective, creativity, energy and sense of detail are brilliant. I am 72 and you its insanely pleasurable listening to you as you tour Pittsburgh. Thank you kindly for your efforts providing all of this for us.
These are amazing! We just binged all of them. We're thinking of retiring to Pittsburgh from the military; we have a lot of family there. We would love to see you continue to showcase the Pittsburgh neighborhoods and maybe (eventually) branch out to the neighboring towns of the greater Pittsburgh area. Incredible job with these. I think you are really doing something important.
Hey! Love. This. Series. I found myself wanting you to do a whole series like this in Philly...Baltimore...Portland Maine? What’s great is hearing from the people- that’s really what makes any neighborhood and any city. As a storyteller and radio producer, I appreciate your style. Keep at it.
I loved living on the Northside. This video reminds me of all the beautiful architecture. In the fall these houses at night looked like a neighborhood of haunted mansions. After looking on a map I just realized I lived in the Manchester area. From 87 to 1990 I lived on the top floor of the Kinder building on Western Ave.
Nice one Dean! I'm not from Pittsburgh but appreciate these videos. There is something quite charming and authentic about these old American cities - 19th century architecture, the history, how it used to be vs. now, the mix of people and backgrounds, grit, and charm. I think people appreciate the stories of the locals - helps us to understand what it's really like there. Definitely would like to see this in other American cities, but perhaps only after you go deeper into the Pittsburgh series. Perhaps Cincinnati could be interesting - it shares a lot of similar architecture and characteristics.
I just discovered this series, and it's fantastic. As a Pittsburgher, it's great to see the little nooks and crannies of culture in our great city presented in such an interesting way.
I don't usually comment, but I felt I had to for this one. I think I can speak for all of us new subscribers when I say: We subscribed for you. We love these exploration videos and meeting new people with you. Create what you want to, we'll be here, waiting for the next one.

Keep it to Pittsburgh! Greatest hometown on earth
How about some videos of Beaver County, Cranberry twp, Butler County. Even east of Pittsburgh
Love your videos. Please keep it Pittsburgh. Maybe include some of the surrounding towns that don't have a Pittsburgh mailing address, but are in the greater Pittsburgh area. We're all Pittsburghers, even though our zip codes might say otherwise. Keep up the great work!!!
Nice work, as usual; the editing, the music, the people. Entertaining and educational and fun to watch.
Dean, these videos are beautiful. As a recent Pittsburgh transplant that is still working to get settled, this series is informative. It’s also so much more. The Neighborhood series is a collection of short-form documentaries showcasing the nature and dynamic of American residential society, from the human (as opposed to analytic) perspective. The music, cinematography, dialogue, and editing come together perfectly to portray something beautiful about humankind let alone Pittsburgh. I know that that’s probably what you were going for, but I just wanted to let you know that your work is not unappreciated. That being said, yes, you could successfully do Neighborhood videos in other cities, but personally I’d like to see what else you can do. You’re a creative and talented dude. I can’t wait to check out your other videos and see what you’ll be releasing next... maybe some videos about residential architecture and it’s history? ;) Thank you for keeping the series going.
Stay PGH. These videos are great. Absolutely love them. They fill a void from a lack of WQED docs about the city. I don't know you r story yet but, these vids are just amazing. Maybe branch out into the subs a little. Bellevue is a great little town just up 65. Bottom line...you keep making videos about PGH and I'll keep watching and telling my friends about them.
I love this channel. Keep it up. I never thought I would be interested in Pittsburgh.
My Home is in New Kensington PA just outside of Pittsburgh, I lived for a while on the North Side, now North Shore.. I can't stop watching these videos they make me want to move back HOME so bad. Thank you for doing these.
Gon told y'all a story now... grew up on the Northside (central) me and some friends use to get those pickle jars as kids from a local bar or two. See we would tie a thin piece of rope around the top tight, then place pieces of soaked bread in it, submerge the jar in the water, and wait for small fish to go into it and pull the jar up... gotta be real quiet as we layed down in wait.. Sometimes for hours... right in good ole west park those were our kinds of games... who needs a playstation.. that was our day of xbox.. god is good
I know it is technically outside city limits, but it would be super cool if you did one on Wilkinsburg. The area gets a bad rap, but there's a lot of history and good people around.
Thanks for making these videos, Dean. They're a joy.
Dean, thank you for making these. I’ve enjoyed your films since I think you first posted some on the Pgh subreddit (bridge monster doodles?) and I think they are all really great. Somehow the way you capture the city is in many ways the way I feel when I’m in it so thank you for evoking that in me. Honestly I’d be happy if you mapped out the entirety of Pittsburgh in neighborhoods videos, but I also have enjoyed your other films so please just keep doing what your heart wants to do! I’ll gladly watch along. Thanks again.
Hi Dean! How about Penn Hills? Since you ventured into Wilkinsburg, which is outside of Pittsburgh I think that would be cool..😎
Dean... you got skills. More, please.
Was yelling "yes! YES!" at the end when you addressed the 5 episode thing. Glad there will be more. Also down for whatever your heart wants to create.
What a treasure to have come across your videos. I may be moving to Pittsburgh soon and love how you honor the long-time residents and dispel the stereotypes about certain areas. Your videos are splendid and really evoke an ethereal and nostalgic feeling. Thank you so much!
Well, I will watch whatever you choose to create. Follow your Muses. But I think you're on to something with Pittsburgh as a series. It's like a boxed set. I also think you're on to something with your interviewing and narrative style. Likeable, genuine, respectful -- you connect with people, and then they open up and share their hearts and stories. "Choose our best future," President Obama once urged. You are building bridges that set us on that course. It's important work that you're doing with joy. Bravo.
What a fricking gem this is! I love the quietness and authenticity of this. The residents that chose to come into the neighborhood or stay in the neighborhood are very special and that came through so well on the video.
Keep it to Pittsburgh, some towns outside of Pittsburgh. Some of the little mill towns. Kittanning, Beaver Falls, Ford City etc.
I would take watching something like this ANY day over some big-budgeted Hollywood blockbuster. Excellently done series! Raw, organic, just a creative cut from an everyday guy doing something that feels natural, fun to watch and original, but doing so, whether he realizes it or not, in a way that leaves the viewer taking-in something worthy of an award. Bravo!
Deannnnnnn what about the REST of the North Side!?!?! lol
You’ve made me love my city even more
Keep it to Pittsburgh. Then you could branch out to the many boroughs and suburbs outside of Pittsburgh too!
i used to live on the North Shore, right by Manchester. Its so nice to see the city I can never forget framed so beautifully. You make really good videos, Dean. Keep up the good work and I hope your ankle heals soon!
Been watching a lot these series of pittsburgh neighborhood videos, via the suggestion of a friend, no clue how you learned how to film, but you have serious talent! every thing is crisp and well put together. Cinematography A+! dare i say i like the west andersonian center shots too!! keep up the videos!!
All Pittsburgh! Nice. Go north. New Kensington. It’s a cool city. Pittsburgh has an impressive history and it’s different because it’s all neighborhoods surrounded by small towns. Not only is Pittsburgh cool but the surrounding cities and boroughs are awesome as well.
Mt. Washington would be a good one to do.
Love all of your videos!!! Please stay in Pittsburgh!!! Love learning about all of it!!! I live an hour and 15 mins north of Pittsburgh and have learned so much thanks to you!!! Please keep the videos of Pittsburgh!!!
I would love to see you do a video on woods run ,lucky alley ,or even Brighton Heights ,McClure Ave., Ohio Boulevard that side before you cross over to McKeys rocks.I lived in woods run for 15 years right down from the penitentiary I loved it I like to see what it’s like now. I remember they taking the pool an gave it back to the prison.
stumbled into this and im loving it. its nice to see into the history and vibe of these towns
Wow I've never even heard of this neighborhood and i'm from the greater Pittsburgh area! Love this
Dean this is one of your crispiest videos yet!
Honestly Dean do what you want, if your not around that’s cool to do somewhere else, use what inspires you. That said I found your channel because I’m moving from CA to Pittsburgh in a few months and you’ve shed a beautiful light on the city. Especially that steps episode. So that as an individual is most interesting to me. But I also just enjoy your style. Keep with it man.

Love it LOVE it!! I need to wander around this area!! The homes look amazing! Please don't stop making these I wait all week for your new uploads lol! I think any place you want to explore would be wonderful it's you that makes these as fantastic as they are. Have a fun week! 🤗👏👏 so glad you still have your bike yayy!!!
yes, keep doing Pittsburgh episodes. Really enjoy your style. Great flow and some humor.
I've said it before, but awesome videos. Real glad to hear you aren't stopping at 5. As someone who lives in Pittsburgh, of course i'd like to see this episodes stay in Pittsburgh, but tbh film wherever you want; wherever you're enthusiasm is highest
Crafton Heights, The West End, Lawrenceville ... SO MANY to go. Keep up the good work!
really enjoying these, thank you for making them
your work Is so funny, beautiful, cinematic, modern and you really capture the diversity and the humanity of wherever you're filming. I love it
Dean, Bravo sir... Bravo. As a native Pennsylvanian I was so pleased when these came up randomly in my feed this morning. You are doing such a great and creative thing in this series, I too am trying to make an impact through film/video and I just wanted to know I am awe struck by your videos. Binged every single thing I could find that you have posted to KZread this morning. I would love to talk to you (if you have the time) about a few things related to your work and this series. Please drop me a message on here if that is a possibility and we can exchange emails. Again, Bravo!
Dean, from someone who grew up and left the burgh, these are magical. You got talent my man. I am going to that Jamaican place in the Hill next time I'm back!
I was excited and bummed to see this video posted because these have been favorite vids to watch, literally have been showing them to everyone, but also knew that it was going to be the last one.. but I am so glad to hear that it's not and you're continuing to make them!! Pittsburgh for now in this series but I'll watch another side project you put up since I have grown to love the passion and your approach with your finals + your corky dry disposition. Can't get enough of the genuine passion in your projects
I am so glad to find these videos. Im transplanted in the South. Pittsburgh is and will always be home!
I was raised in the Manchester neighborhood. Where I lived is now buried under Route 65. I went to Conroy school from 3rd Grade to 8th Grade. Miss it.
Dean Another awesome video!!!!
Very cool vid. I love those brownstones.
I stumbled upon these videos randomly and I can't stop watching from across the pond. Love em. Was wondering if any fine folk know what equipment Dean uses?
Great episode!
Great content. Thank you so much
To us your videos are a treasure. Thank you :)
That first shot is SO Manchester
SO GOOD.
Excellent shows.
Yes! Keep it up!
Although I do enjoy ALL your videos, I hope you keep producing the Neighborhoods series. I can't wait to see what you do with Shady Side and Squirrel Hill. You might also find Millvale interesting. Technically it's just outside the city limit but its home to Mr. Smalls Theater and some really cool locations to film. Let me know if you would like to be treated to a bowl of Turtle Soup at Grants Bar. 114 Grant Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15209?? (no peanuts, I promise.)
Make them in other big cities as well! This is some amazing work being done, thank you so much
I really like these videos. I lived in Squirrel Bill in the early 90s on Bartlett Ave. I loved living in Pittsburgh. I dated a guy in Mt. Lebanon loved that area also. Pittsburgh is a great city. I miss it those were the best times of my life.
University of Pittsburgh graduate as well. You’re the man Dean!
I'm loving the work that you're doing! I was born in Pittsburgh and have spent decades living in the Bloomfield/Shadyside/Oakland area. Pittsburgh people are my favorite people in the United States of America. That kind of covers it.
Best yet!!!
Can you do one one for sharpsburg? The town has a lot of neat history and was neglected for many years, but there is a resurgence of pride and community in it.
