I have binged this entire neighborhoods series and I am just floored by how genuine, kind, and down to earth Pittsburgh people are. My grandmother was raised in Pittsburgh but unfortunately I have never had the pleasure of visiting there. But after watching this series, I'm high-key considering moving there. These videos are excellently made, and it's an absolute pleasure to see them.

@@MrCzechTexan The Amtrak Pennsylvanian (Philly/Harrisburg/Pittsburgh) is an absolutely gorgeous train route. I've only done it in the spring, but wow, fall would be amazing. It only runs to Pittsburgh once each weekday in each direction, but SO worth it! It goes through so much forest, along so many riversides, and around Horseshoe Curve -- legendary.

I lived in Polish Hill from 2005-2009 -- 12:55 was my bedroom from 2007-2009. Teared up a little watching this -- Choosing to live in this neighborhood was the first real decision I feel like I got to make for myself as an "adult" at 22. Even though I haven't lived in Polish Hill (or PA, for that matter) in over 10 years, it'll always feel like my first home. :)

I was born and raised right outside of Pittsburgh in a small borough called Chalfant. I know you like steps, and I think you'd find a nice set there. Take the 69 (or P69) outbound and get off at Electric Ave. Walk up North Ave and you'll run into them. I'm living overseas now and these videos provide a sense of familiarity and comfort for me. I appreciate and love your work, Dean. Thank you.

Never knew anything about Polish Hill before this. The Church is absolutely beautiful, and I can't even begin to imagine how much work of time, effort and finances that took to accomplish. People don't do that anymore, not to the extent they had to, without any choice then to get it done. The Pottery place looks so cool. I love the look of the place with the stone wall and big windows. Honestly, put a fire place for warmth and more ambiance and I could live there. The last home was great with all the wide open space and huge windows. But, the thing that surprised me the most was the guy in the coffee shop. I'm surprised he wouldn't be happy to see new apts coming in etc, because that would only increase his business. He and his wife must be really happy and comfortable with the way things are to not want to see that growth. Good for them. 👍

Got married in that church in 1964. Moved away and out of state. Returned in 1988 and revisited. The Christmas midnight mass was an event. The decorations done by various parishoners and the chior was local people. Even folks that had moved ten or fifteen miles out of the city, would attend at Christmas. Wife isn't healthy enough to do that sort of late stuff anymore....but the memories are great. Thanks for featuring this neighborhood.

Hi Dean, I love your videos. I live in Millvale Pa, and I think this is an awesome little borough, that deserves to be talked about. After the flood in 2004, Millvale, looked like a war zone, however everyone pulled together, and not only brought our little borough back , it is now better than it ever was. There are so many little shops, and restaurants, with more opening all the time. Mr Smalls, is always showcasing new talent, and I have to mention the "famous" French bakery , that has the most delicious treats!!!

I just discovered your channel. I grew up in Polish Hill and it has really changed since my day. I attended Immaculate Heart of Mary grade school, lived right next to what is now Gooski's growing up. I now reside in Manchester, another neighborhood that you have covered. I occasionally drive thru the old neighborhood and reminisce. What I noticed is that in my youth the ball field, West Penn, pool and basketball courts were constantly filled. Now they are barren the majority of the time. Thanks for your series. Good stuff.

Another great episode. Just two things I want to add. 1. That church is beautiful. I would love to see the interior for myself someday. 2. It's funny how punk moves around the city looking for cheap rent. Back in the late `1990's it was centered in Oakland on Chesterfield. Now, it's Polish Hill. When I hit 60 in twenty years I wonder where the epicenter will be then?

I live in New Orleans but I went to school in Pittsburgh and I gotta say I love that city. I lived on Western Ave. near 3 rivers stadium on the Northside. I miss that place.

Hey, Dean! Great channel! May I make a recommendation? The North Side. It’s where all the fancy steel baron families had their summer homes, but then they all moved out and the neighborhood went into a more dangerous phase then over the past 15 years or so started being revitalized. This is just my perception that I’ve come to casually learning about it. I’m not an expert, but it could be worth checking out?

That would be okay if it was south, east or west facing. But as it's north facing, it gets the least sunlight of any part of the Burgh.
