This coffee table makeover is perfect for anyone looking to update their furniture on a budget. In this DIY coffee table makeover, I show you how to transform an old and outdated table into a stunning piece of furniture that looks basically brand new. I use sanding, staining, and painting techniques to give the table a fresh, modern look that fit many of todays decor style trends. Materials used include sandpaper, wood stain, paint, paint sprayer, and a sander.
I won this table in an online auction for $15 and used around $10 worth of product on it. I sold it for $150, it took me around 2.5 hours of work time (not including drying) which works out at around $50 profit an hour. I sold it via online auction and the buyer was very happy. It was a great piece to work on as it taught me a few things about refinishing along the way which is an added bonus!

It's gorgeous!! I love that you don't paint wash everything. I love the look of wood and so often the paint wash just makes it look fake and cheap.
Rattan is a vibe in the US as well, lol. It has been for a few years now and doesn't seem to be going anywhere. I keep seeing it more and more. It cracks me up because it used to be an instant "heck no" if something had rattan. It's like the lattice of furniture. Now, I like what I have been seeing. It looks elegant. I never thought I would say that.
Excellant job. When you're unsure if it's veneer or not always assume it's veneer, less of problem of burn through.

Oh WOW. This looks awesome. Black is my favourite colour 😁(it's my Happy Colour) and it looks great with the table top. I hope your customer was happy with it. In regards to sandpapering, I suppose the best thing to do would be to start with the finest grade first and work up to see what is working for that particular project. Great project as always.
Nice job Mate look's great, have a nice day. Brian UK !!!. 😀😃👍👍.

My advice; buy a 1900 newspaper or a letter, wrap an earring in it, and find it while disassembling furniture. The rating will be great.
Love it!! However, the little one steals the show!!!! He is so darn adorable!

I've been burned on the "solid wood" thing. It sucks but I always assume veneer at first. Love the little bundle of joy you had inspecting your work!

Good job! It is so nice to see Stanley tools. I have a very old Stanley hand saw that belonged to my late dad and I treasure it.

That is awesome, I wish I had some tools with sentimental value! Hang on to that!
Sooo good
@Flipitnation it certainly looks better than it did. I can see the appeal but personally I wouldn't have gone with a black bottom but that's just my preference. Like you said you went with a customer request. Quality results for sure. I've discovered it's important to learn something new every day. Restoration is certainly a trial and error system. Veneer done right is supposed to fool us into thinking it's real wood. From watching many videos myself I learned it's important to filter the paint before adding it to your sprayer. This is only my 2nd of your channel...looking forward to learning more from you.

It is definitely important to learn something new every day. Every piece I do teaches me many things! Lot's of trial and error, that's for sure! Thank you for watching my videos and taking the time to comment ;)
❤❤❤
The baby is adorable! Even though I fast forwarded through most of the video (I wasn’t sure where you we’re going with it) ..’the end result was a nice looking coffee table!

Yes, rattan is "so hot right now" in furniture, here in the States too. Fantastic job you did, not that I expected otherwise!

I'm so used to hearing American accents that familiar kiwi accent threw me for a loop! I'm a fellow furniture flipper from New Zealand and I am also taking a break from drawers to work on a coffee table

Good job! Looks a million times better. Though I think you should've left the rattan (or whatever its called) natural, I think you would gotten more money for it. But otherwise, "new" (as in not antique) pieces like this are perfect for paint or paint/wood combos.

@@jemase7931 Yes, it's awful. I really hate caned seats on chairs. They break through so easily. Who ever thought of doing that?!?

I also find that on seats it can catch on your clothes and cause pulling. Not a fan either to be honest!

With the wood top, I think the black should have been more flat.

Excellent job on the baby! Excellent job on the table also :) Tips- you can use no scratch scrubbies or 0000 steel wool to knock back a finish that is too shiny or new looking. Remember that YOU are the boss and artist in YOUR shop. If you think the piece needs paint, then you paint it. Jamie Oliver that piece up and Bob's yer uncle. Finally- this guy.. is a wizard. Thomas Johnson has literally taught me so much about repairs and finishes- even though he specializes in restorations of furniture older than our Great grams. www.youtube.com/@johnsonrestoration (sorry, wrong link the first time lol)

Hey, thank you for your kind words and feedback. I really appreciate it, there are certainly lots of opinions out there and I have struggled to find a balance but yes you are right, I should just take the direction I want to! I will watch that channel for sure, love recommendations. I will also add some scrubbies to the shopping list, thank you!! Stay cool :)
