    I received my Tier1 Concealed Axis Elite about a month ago. I got it for my Walther Full Size PDP 5 inch, which as you may or may not know, it a big old chunky monster. And I have ZERO printing and it is surprisingly comfortable to wear all day. It hides better than my Canik Elite Combat which is a bit smaller in a different brand holster. It’s a good holster for sure. But it ain’t no Tier1 Axis Elite! Not by a long shot! And you are right about using the right belt and choosing clothing wisely. I realize not everyone can or wants to carry a full size pistol and hide it well. But for me, it!s been a game changer for sure!

    @@thanerdchi That’s a great way to get used a new holster. I was actually very surprised at how well it conceals my full size 5 inch PDP. I have another holster from C&G that does a good job as well. But my Axis Elite seems to do even better. Experiment with ride height, the claw height and position of the holster to get the best results. It very adjustable. But again, everyone is different and your mileage may vary. A good belt is also key. It took me a while to get my CCW license as well. I found a very thorough instructor and his class is 4 hours long! Took me a while to free up the time to take the class.

    Having an average dad bod gut, I can attest to lower the gun the better it conceals, and when sitting just pull your pants up and everything is comfy. But also one of the most important things to understand about appendix (or any IWB carry) is that a lot to conceal carrying is knowing that you have a metal object inside a hard plastic casing that is in your pants against your soft flesh so no matter how “comfortable” it is, it is still going to be there on your body and you will know. The more you do it, the more you’ll get used to it. It’s like when you were a kid and getting used to wearing a watch or having a wallet in your back pocket for the first few times. It wasn’t comfortable and you were fixated on it being there, but you get used to it and now hardly realize it’s there sometimes unless you shift your focus on it or it you feel it moving/pressing against your body. It boils down to you training your mind that this is the new normal for you.

  • @NightwoodGuns

    You 100% hit the nail on the head with the watch/wallet analogy. It reminds me of Clint Smith’s wise words: “Carrying a gun is not supposed to be comfortable; it’s supposed to be comforting.” You just have to get used to it, then it’ll just become a part of you. Hell, now I feel naked if I’m NOT carrying. I always appreciate your input, man! Thanks for the comment!

  • @NightwoodGuns

    The P320 has become my travel/spare carry gun. Because I would be devastated if TSA or baggage handlers made off with my Staccato. Same thing if I know I’ll have to leave my iron in the car (jury duty, etc) But I still practice with it and carry it when my Staccato is super dirty. And yeah, this “full size no shits given concealed carry” is a new thing for me in 2022. Literally just said “screw it” lol. And I’ve been loving it. 🤘

    After 15 years of concealed carry and having tried almost everything, this is fantastic info. I prefer to carry my Roland in a Phlster Floodlight at 3 o clock, I much more commonly wear my shield plus in a Phlster Enigma (Skeleton) at 1 o clock. And you are absolutely correct on the T1C wedges they last a long long time and are well worth it if that's your flavor. I have also used the Ciguera belt for five years and is excellent. If you’re running a full size light and gun combo, copy his holster placement (~5:30 mark) I was running it in my left sweet spot and the light kept digging into my femoral artery whenever I bent over at work. I didn’t think it would work, but because of how the sidecar works it actually made by belt line compress in. I feel a little stupid, and relieved, now.

    It’s interesting because I have a bit of a gut (6’ 205lbs) and the sidecar style works better than single or separate because the weight is balanced across me and splits my zipper area with the clips. And Kore belts are ,to me, the final word on a comfortable belt for carry. It has small clicks for adjustment so it allows you pop a few loose when spending a bunch of time in the car and a quick few clicks when you’re get out and you’re good to go.

    Another great video. I have been struggling to conceal an almost-full sized pistol (P30). I'd rather stick to a gun I can shoot well than switch to a a subcompact. It is encouraging to see advice that matches my personal observations. I also think that a claw that sticks out laterally beyond the trigger guard helps to push the belt line lower along the grip. Some of the claws seem to stick out just below the trigger guard area. Anyway, great video.

    Just wanted to say thank you…I bought a xiphos a few months ago and never was able to get my firearm to properly conceal…if the gun wasn’t printing then I had a huge bulge in the crotch of my pants, and if I removed the wedge and reduced the bulge then the firearm would print. Im 5’11 185 with an athletic/muscular body type, so I recently took your advise and ordered an axis elite. It hasn’t arrived yet, but I’m excited to see how well it distributes the weight/mass of the gun/mag and the holster itself. Thanks again!

  • @NightwoodGuns

    @NightwoodGuns

    Жыл бұрын

    I’m glad you found the video to be helpful! Being a thinner/athletic guy myself, I have much better results without the wedge like you said. And the Axis Elite definitely distributes the mass much better. The other crucial piece to the puzzle is the belt. I’m not sure what you are running for a belt, but I always recommend the Wilderness Tactical 5-Stitch Frequent Flyer or the KORE EDC belt. Wear it tight with the buckle offset just in front of or behind your “weak” side hip. Using the belt like this will push the wing/claw much closer to your body and prevent drooping/spilling over your pant-line. Other than that, playing with the ride-height of the clips is the last step. Once you find the sweet spot, you are GOLDEN! 👍 I wish you luck!

I really like how quick and easy the adjustability is, however, the only thing I don’t like about it is how big the buckle is and how far out it protrudes, and since I wear it off to the left as you do it makes getting in and out of my pocket a bit cumbersome. • @NightwoodGuns

    I’m actually currently reviewing the KORE belt and I have the same complaint with the buckle that you do. I actually wear it behind my left hip for that reason and have had much better results, lol. I think I prefer my Wilderness Tactical frequent flyer. The “buckle” hoops are much lower profile. Only complaint with the WT belt is that it’s Velcro.

    Before getting my ccw permit in Los Angles county I’ve been wearing 29-30” waist but now I have to wear 31-32” pants or shorts for the extra thickness of the holster and gun. My M&P shield being single stack and thin on my Tier 1 Axis Elite doesn’t print except the end of the grip with the +1 Tyrant base plate so I usually move the holster to the 11 o’clock position wearing the Ares Aegis buckle to the left because it’s so thick. When wearing my Glock 26 on a sidecar rig which is one piece, no shock cord hinge style the grip being very short doesn’t print the end of the grip. Both have a claw and Tier 1 wedges. I think at times I will wear a two clip holster separate from a side car mag holder.

    @@NightwoodGuns Been carrying barely only a month! 😅 But I’ve been adapting and getting used to it. The main thing that bothers me is if I wear the belt too tight I feel uncomfortable pressure in the groin area. I’ve learned to loosen it when I sit in my car driving the tighten it up when walking around. Getting 1 or 2” larger pants and an infinitely adjustable belt has helped with that. In these hot summer months I mainly wear shorts and tank tops in the daylight hours and a t-shirt at night. Colder months coming should be alot easier to conceal.

    It mostly just takes some getting used to. Once you’ve been carrying for a year, you don’t even feel it anymore. 👍 It doesn’t matter how you carry or what you carry, as long as you carry everyday and you can get to it quickly.

    @@NightwoodGuns I am actually getting used to it just had to change all my pants and shorts sizes. The only thing I’m concerned with is how I will react when my fight or flight kicks in a real defensive situation. I know to watch body language, definitely watch their hands, and if there more than one attacker not in my view. Keeping my back to a wall, near a quick exit, getting out of the line of fire. All this with adrenaline. I try to train practicing clearing my cover garment, making sure I have my safety off on my M&P Shield which I have on when reholstering. I do take my time and extra care reholstering, making sure my clothing won’t snag my trigger shoe. With my Glock 26 there is no safety but myself. Train so it becomes muscle memory. Making sure what’s behind and beyond my target. But also have the mindset not to draw or brandish unless my life or family’s life is in danger. Keeping cool and not let my emotions take over. So many things to think about! Two things I worry about. Defend myself and family’s life and to not get arrested for man slaughter or murder by a zealous DA. That’s why I got CCW SAFE for legal defense.

    I’ve seen some people complain of a “gap” on light bearing holsters where stuff can get down into the trigger which is a concern for everyday carry. What’s your opinion on this? And how does your snap, says on their website no light holsters snap lol keep up the great content!

  • @NightwoodGuns

    @NightwoodGuns

    Жыл бұрын

    Great questions! 👍 As far as the gap goes, I mostly agree. If you can squeeze your pinky finger in the gap and pull the trigger, that’s a no-go for me. That’s my go-to test. I have two light-bearing Axis Elites and both “click” in to place. It’s not as much of a snap as a non light-bearing holster, but it has a distinct retention “hump” that it moves past on the re-holster that keeps it held in place. It’s also important to make sure your retention is properly adjusted. I assume they have the disclaimer on their website because it simply may not be possible to achieve a “snap” on some/many gun/light combos. Light bearing holsters are tricky to make and maybe they can’t guarantee a retention “snap.” Either way, I’m confident that their light bearing holsters will have adequate retention with or without a “snap.”

If you want to weigh, say 180 pounds you have to eat like a 180 pounder more often with more meals during the day and more protein. I’ve been carrying a M&P 2.0 4.6 10mm with Tlr1 HL. I’m 6’3” and an athletic 200lbs. I use the werkz outlier. It has a built in wedge and honestly I wish it didn’t. Great holster but I don’t need the wedge and it pushes out my pants a little to far. Really need to get a t1 and test it. I use the new next belt supreme appendix, best belt ever; definitely offset buckle to the side. I AWIB at the 1 to 2 position because it’s just more comfortable. Never got into the straight 12. I have a 6pack and no fat on my stomach. 12 is just not comfortable. Especially with a larger firearm that digs into your pubic bone. I also never found sidecars comfortable either. Just to much going on. I always carry my spare mag in a separate carrier spread out further or with a neomag in pocket. Also been carrying for 10 years now. Started behind the hip and quickly transitioned to appendix after a year or so. Definitely the best way to carry. Great video.

Your pistol with that spare magazine must feel like carrying around a boat anchor in your pants. Not a fan for seldom used lights or red dots on a carry pistol myself. Kept a light on my duty pistol but honestly seldom used it, relied on a hand held light for searching and only used pistol light for aiming at actual people in low light. My pet peeve was other guys waving pistol around searching area using pistol lights.

I’m a really skinny guy but most guns I’ve tried to carry appendix just seem to poke out. I’m wondering if it’s just a combination of belt/holster… but man, 250 dollars just for a carry setup seems pricey. I’ve been looking into the Enigma, but I don’t think they have a light bearing option for my Glock 43X MOS and I don’t see myself paying 150 dollars for a T Rex sidecar or 120 dollars for a Tier 1 belt.

    It depends on which way your pelvis tilts. Other than physical therapy/strengthening/stretching… making a change to your wardrobe would be the easiest fix. Maybe golf/athletic polos could work.
