@@tylerdouglas480 Oddly enough I've seen people use some of the Necromunda kits effectively- a friend ran "Counts as Tempestus Scions" using Van Saar, and it was actually cheaper. At the time, the price of 5 Scions was the same as 10 Van Saar gangers.

The growths/boils, whatever they are in all the joints and cracking through the exo-skeleton is unsettling and damn right revolting.

In the Kingdom of the blind, the one eyed man is King - the least mutated Tyranid would become the Alpha, makes thematic sense.

I think the Malstrain Alpha's weirdly distorted physiology, including the seemingly elongated and emaciated legs, fits in well with the rule mentioned in the article that allows this thing to twist and morph it body (and, in my mind at least, grotesquely dislocate many of its joints) to squeeze into apertures far too small to accommodate its bulk so that it can reach prey that thinks itself safe and burst out of ducts and vents to ambush victims in a suitably horror movie style, Eugene Tooms from the X-files sort of manner. You can imagine spooked Gangers looking around, trying to see what is stalking them, when the only indication of danger is the faint clicking, crunching sound of this thing forcing its malformed body through ludicrously small spaces, inching closer and closer in the dark, spines catching on metal to tear through it with a tortured shriek or snap off and leave alien blood slicking the creature's path, wholly unseen, warped claws reaching toward warm (mostly) untainted flesh... It is a good fusion of model design, lore, and tabletop rule functionality used to evoke a very effective mental image.

Necromondays is the obvious go-to. Also, while I walked away from the game a while back, I love the art that goes into the sculptures. This is really making me want to fire my nids back up (have an army that's over 40,000 points)

After the peak horror of the Malstrain coalescence, this feel almost... Necromundane. J/K, I love it, just couldn't resist the pun.

My first thoughts when I saw it huh.. you asked. "Which ones are longer, the legs or that tongue?"

I'm not a wh40k player but I like to dabble in the lore ans painting vids and from what I've seen so far, the malstrain aesthetic gives off sickly and diseased vibes. While the normal nids look healthy and clean, these ones look like they adapted to the hive cities pollution and look polluted just as much. I love this

I feel like, if I played Nurgle, I would find a use for this guy. I have no idea *for what*, but... it just had that feel without being the same old "Oops my guts are outside silly me" - maybe a Chaos Spawn depending on the size?

It follows the design of the other Malstrains we've seen, but I was somehow expecting it to be bigger, almost a halfway point between a Genestealer and a Lictor (I hardly knew her) or a Tyranid Warrior.

I Need This, it would be a perfect Tyranid Broodlord

As someone who remembers the days of rolling random chaos mutations, the leaders inevitably were the ones that got just enough mutation rolls to (hopefully) be powerful, but not so many they started getting bogged down and hindered with a bunch of bad mutations. That's what I see here, a creature with just enough good while not being weighed down by bad. That's why it survived long enough to be that powerful.

If they keep going with this, i think i'll have to pick some of these up for my warp-tainted kronos army. These are too cool! I love how horrible and mutated they are.

I see your point about the lack of growths, but i don't think that it is necessarily lacking. Their initial idea was 'emaciated clawed horror', which sounds good, but in the execution of it they've made the model so slim that it's taken away some of the intended intimidation.

I really like necromundays, and I think the model might be improved by having its tail up behind its shoulders like a messed up scorpion, other than that it’s pretty cool

I'm so curious where GW is going with malstrain stuff.

I really don't think this is the Malstrain Patriarch, rather I think it's more a sort of bruiser mutation where a Genestealer has grown more than it should and is thus the 'alpha'. Mainly because the head is completely unchanged, there should be bony plates and spikes and excess brain matter if it was the Patriarch since the OG Patriarch didn't die it should still have that.

I think the lack of mutation compared to the others might be because a purestrain genestealer would naturally be an alpha compared to the gangly boys

I don't know why more people aren't playing Necromunda. I've had Kill-Team die-hards sit down and try it and then they're hooked.

Too many rules spread across too many books, and it doesn't help that the two main starter sets still available don't have current rules now, it's hard to take up a game with a starter set only to join a group or club and find out you can't use your rulebook because it's out of date.

@@darrenrichardson6146 There is one current rulebook available, officially through GW. You need that one rulebook, and the House book for your specific gang. Unless you got your rulebook a year ago, it's not out of date- however the new rulebook does add a lot of material, and the 'starter set' rulebooks weren't even complete rules. And, of course, if one were to search online- it's quite easy to find a consolidated, "no-fluff" straight-up ruleset... with all the applicable faction rules, dramatis personae, vehicle rules, critters/gribblies, and anything White Dwarf has ever put out (as well as a few homebrewed 'updates' for older critters and such). Let's just say the only reason I have 'hard copy physical books' is because when I do events at the FLGS, they prefer if I have 'legit' material. I've never seen anyone else using it and I tell everyone in my group to go and get the 'digital version that works best'. Also if you're playing 40k, don't act like 'too many books' and 'rules getting outdated' is a problem.

That’s because there’s no creativity left in 40k space marines have lost that badass ornate iconic look they once had the other ranges are just old models remastered almost no effort goes into leader models anymore & everyone’s got a rock kill team is probably the best thing 40k wise at the mo aos old world & nercomunda just kill it every time with their models
