Nebraska & Matt Rhule Have Outsmarted Literally EVERYONE
Спорт
The Nebraska Cornhuskers look like they are 100 percent ahead of their competition. A recent court ruling looks to have changed college football for Nebraska and everyone going forward. And it looks like the Nebraska Cornhuskers are set to benefit in a big way. Fans of the Nebraska Cornhuskers should be really excited by this news.

I remember the great rivalry games between the Sooners and the Cornhuskers back in the 60's, 70's, 80's, etc, and I have always been a Nebraska fan, but I have always respected Oklahoma, and I still do. I also thought Barry Switzer was great for college football.
Damon Benning said earlier this year he would much rather build like we are building "The right way" than to do what Colorado is trying to do ... and looking at the ruling this may very much impact the Buffs so it will be interesting to watch.

Agreed and our retention with decent NIL and budget and development. This guy (Rhule) is keeping players and families around (that he wants).
Don’t get anything twisted. Rhule is the CEO of Nebraska football and everything he does is calculated. There’s also alignment with the AD, other coaches, and university leadership. I think Rhule finds high end athletes and teaches them, develops them, and most importantly he retains them. He will be very successful at Nebraska

@@michaelgulbrandson1547 That’s not accurate, according to the Supreme Court ruling the NCAA can’t prohibit athletes from participating in any kind of employment or sponsorships they want.
The teams that have spent that kind of money before should be penalized, ordered to pay back money to all other colleges and give them less TV time. Hit them for BUYING wins like OHIO STATE that's SOOO Obvious. 50 year fan hear from California by the way.
Go Big Red!
Considering the cat is out of the bag, this is a better approach versus where it was going without any rules or oversight...
That is the way you have to do it in football and baseball. Basketball, you are much more likely to be able to buy your way to championship. Football and baseball doesn't work like that. The rosters are to big, whether there is a cap or not, there is only so much money to go around. Nebraska has had transfers for a long time, but not a lot. I think that is always the best way. Build your core, though recruiting and development then you can add a couple guys here and there. Also I think it's better for the players. I think players should get 1 transfer because things can change very quickly. But they need to honor their commitments also.
I think a salary cap is a good idea. And better is the contract. A player shouldn’t get paid and jump ship any time he wants. If he has the advantage of an employee he should also have to be responsible to the employer.
The Nebraska collective (1890 Project) is spending $14M+ in NIL money for this year. The money predominantly goes to keep players, not bring in new ones. Athletic Departments that can, will spend the $20M, and for most that means pulling in donation dollars that comes from the same bucket their NIL draws from. What does hurt Nebraska and the way the develop those players they keep, is if that revenue sharing is split into tiers that forbid walk-ons. Nebraska needs to be able to get three or four stations going for a good part of practice to get the reps in to develop those players they are keeping, otherwise it makes more sense to work harder, and spend more on bringing in talent for one or two years as needed.
@Tijuanabill
21 күн бұрын
Wait...what? You guys don't pay your walk-ons? We are using NIL to get players in as walk-ons, then we just pay for their schooling via NIL.
@geekstradamus1548
21 күн бұрын
@@Tijuanabill of course - we just have a lot more than anyone. But the talk of 20-22M in revenue sharing includes limiting rosters to 85-90 players. Most schools can’t hope to support walk-ons drawing NIL while also spending $20M from the AD. Only 20-25 schools have an AD in the black. That $20M would come from boosters - or - those boosters spend on NIL. Either way, it’s coming from the same bucket of donors. So, to keep things “fair”, limit roster to 85, skolly or no. However, there’s NU people (and others) who are pushing the B1G, and talking to the SEC, into telling the rest of CFB screw off. If you limit our rosters, we’ll go straight to Super League mode with the SEC and do whatever we want, and have our own playoffs, bowls, and you won’t be invited.
@Tijuanabill

@@geekstradamus1548 Nobody has said there will be a 20m cap. Nobody has said there will be any cap, of any kind. Nobody has said the same boosters paying NIL now, will stop paying NIL after revenue sharing starts. Every blue blood is in the black. Every single one of us. OU took in 100m last year on the side, after the TV money. UT has a $250m annual budget for the athletic department. The TV money is just gravy, not the main course.

Still concerned how this could adversely affect the walk on program which is important to UNL.
Let me say to our former/formerly more bitter rivals in Lincoln, you got a real one with Coach Rhule. According to rumors, he was going to be our hire, before Bob Stoops and a grass roots movement, insisted we hire Venables. We like who we got, but we like who you got too. Good luck up there. Boomer!

I'm miss that rivalry so much GO BIG RED!
Should be focused on players and player development out of highschool first with nil to fill subsequent needs
This is way better than the whole under the table thing where coaches couldn't talk money. I have a feeling the under the table thing i still here though. Just some kids wont be blind to all their money.
Clemson should also benefit by the reasoning presented here. Nebraska is in a good place because Rhule is the perfect coach for them. They did mostly focus on the long term but at certain positions like WR, they used the portal for major improvements (along with some very good, young guys). Regrettably, money will ultimately ruin college football. Combined with the rise of Twitch/esports and other entertainment plus the rise in popularity of other sports, and all of the changes of the last few years feel like carving up a dying product. I predict that Division 1 football will significantly shrink in a decade and be much less part of the national culture. That's not even factoring in the impacts of AI on the (diminishing?) value of the university systems beyond sports. They could become (more of) an anachronistic, inefficient pathway for preparing for most careers. They, of course, don't want to be efficient as that would reduce their funding but I'm going way down the rabbit hole now ;^)

If Rhule decides to plant roots and stay in Lincoln for the rest of his career like Saban did at Alabama, you may be looking at a new dynamic in college football. Rhule definitely knows what he’s doing, and I don’t think any luck was involved with this setup for in house revenue sharing. It was his plan from the start. If you don’t believe me then check the tape!
the money coming in, is it to the athletic departments or ear marked for football,cause if it's the AD. that doesn't sound like a very good chunk of cash

That 20-22 Million goes the athletes threw out all sports for the school.
I like it but it can still be tweaked and made more efficient ….
Salary cap would be huge, parody would be the new norm, teams like osu will fall off
Not sure how this move was looking ahead? NU has a roster on par with the bottom 3rd of the B10 and it was like that before NIL. This whole culture by not paying athletes is silly. Nebraska football since joining the b10 has been horrible. To think Ohio St. or other powerhouse schools will fall off without NIL is just dumb. Big slow football of yesterday is gone, and until NU can recruit the southeast and Cali they are not going to be elite.
It’s wrong to see schools and conferences make billions off the sacrifices of athletes who risk their health for a scholarship. It’s past time that this needed to be corrected.

If there's a salary cap, the under-the-table wink-wink payments will still be around for the top players. (Of course, that would never happen at my beloved Dear Old Nebraska U. Wink wink.)
