An ND Miata is almost an anachorism in this day and age - where as other cars promise more power, tech, comfort, luxury, and... price, the Miata stays simple, honest, and approachable. Less power, less weight, less space, less consumables cost, less bloat. A simple car made to simply enjoy simple driving pleasure. Not a car for everyone, but for those that get it, they get it. If I were to "upgrade" from my ND2, I'd honestly go for something more extreme and ucomfortable like an Elise, Caterham 7, or even a classic British roadster like a Triumph TR4 rather than a high end luxury sports car. There's a bunch of comfortable commuters to choose from at any given time, but having a truly raw driving experience is something for my bucket list.

Right, I'm a 51 yr old female and I have the 2023 Mx 5 RF as of Oct. I had the a solstice in 2005 and this Mx 5 reminds me of it so much. I miss my Solstice more than the 2012 370z I had prior to the Mx 5. The solstice made me feel good how the seats just hugged me. I always felt like I was in a nascar race. The 370 felt cool too but in a different way. I was to scared to race at that point. I get more guys that pull upon me to race the mx 5 than the 370z. I'm pondering on getting a sticker inn the back that says ....OLD LADY ON BOARD!!! NOT TRYING TO RACE YOU BULLIES!!!! haha

As much as I love the 718, I'd still pick the Miata for its joy inspiring character, unbeatable value and steadfast reliability. In fact, I did choose a 2024 Miata GT manual, which I am picking up next week. Porsches are amazing cars, but they can be a lot of trouble as they age and they are insanely expensive to maintain. The older I get, the more I try to keep things simple, and the Miata is the definition of that mentality.

@@Jay-xr3sb No matter who does the maint on a Porsche it will be orders of magnitude more expensive than a Miata. Also, you can maintain a Miata yourself since it's such a simple car. Porsches are overly complex and nearly impossible to self maintain.

@@QueTheChaotic there are no tracks where I live. The 718 is more fun on roads, much faster and more comfortable. Definitely feels more dialed in, although both are mostly stock. The mx5 is the icecream car. On good days, the convertible+manual combination for cruises is just what you need. I might modify the suspension on the mx5, but it’s not a priority as of now. Then when I get closer to leaning toward the Porsche, then I start thinking Corvette for similar price, but I lose the manual transmission which makes me lean back towards the Miata. Then I end up talking myself out of any extra cars and keep my money invested but still eyeing these. :)

@@QueTheChaotic I feel you! But it’s worth it, isn’t it!! That tight, clicky little shifter and 100% old-time British roadster feel with modern technology and reliability. And you hit the nail on the head about speed. I always had a blast in my NB, almost always under 60 mph on the backroads where I live. The Cayman is amazing, but Im breaking almost all speed limits at the top of second gear! Happy driving! PS - Im actually looking for an NC Club. It’s not as good as what you have, but I actually fit in it.

You would like the 2009 cayman s more than the 718. It’s an amazing car. I’ve had Miata’s, a 718 GTS and now a 987.2 boxster s. And the Miata is an amazing car in its own right. And arguably better than the cayman regardless of price. The Miata just kind of sucks on the highway. and the Miata’s shifter is WAY better.

@@QueTheChaotic I think you would like it a lot. We have had a lot of the same cars. M2, Miata, GR Corolla. That generation cayman/boxster has the best steering out of any car I’ve driven outside the lotus Elise. The naturally aspirated engine is nasty in the upper rev range. And one of the best sounding engines on the planet, especially with an upgraded exhaust. I’d let you film mine if you were in Florida

@@QueTheChaoticthe Miata is very loud. NVH levels are quite high. The RF is a little better. The RF with some butyl sheets and closed cell foam installed in strategic places in the RF significantly reduces the NVH where the loudest of the noises remaining is the stock exhaust. I love my RF now.

When I was a young man living in poverty in the 80s, my goal in life was to buy a BMW and a Porsche later on in life. I bought a NA Miata when I was young and I had my fun. Studied hard in college and got to where I wanted to be in life financially, but I don't desire expensive luxury cars anymore and I'm not impressed by the people driving them. I never even bought a real luxury car. My goal in life now is to be as healthy and strong as I can be. I am only impressed when someone can do more pullups and run a faster 10k than me.
