Pay is not enough !!

NCSHP needs a pay raise, end of story. There will be a lack of Troopers until the pay gets right. They must have lost their lobbying power or something because they used to be well taken care of. That's a thing of the past and the quality of Troopers has and will continue to decline until they get a raise. Other cities in NC make way more than troopers and that's not right

I agree I never lived in a state that pays absolutely low wages to state level employees like DOC and highway patrol that are routinely in harms way like NC does and no one at the state seems to care.

And that’s why I ran back to federal government a rest of USA basic cop with zero experience off the street and a 10-15 week academy and FTO 16 weeks you will make 62-75k in your first year with Sunday prem and night diff 6 months out of the year. And have federal benefits

The military still has a zero-tolerance policy. two of my buddies just got kicked out in 2022 and 2023.

They have too many requirements to qualify for the job. They require too much from the applicants and they disqualify applicants for many things.

Strangely there is an age cap at the age of 40. They are the only highway patrol on the east coast with that legislation. Remove the legislation and you'll get military retirees.

If you don’t attend the state police academy how on earth can NCHP ensure they are trained in the manner fitting a trooper? The watering down of the profession continues?

You attend BLET first at a Community College and then you go to the NCSHP Academy for an additional 12+ weeks of training.

Who wants to work for the ticket police. They aren’t a state police force more so traffic cops. Forget it.

The salary is a joke in this economy. Illinois State Police is now paying new recruits $90,000. Go there instead.

It’s simple Pay sucks and so does the fact nc is criminal justice standards and not post so they do their own thing and now are one of the longest police academy’s in the nation with almost 1000 hours. Meanwhile fl ga tn va sc are all around the 500 hour mark and 7-15k more in pay. And this isn’t just for troopers this is across the board nc is one of the worst states for police with pay and benefits. Other states give property tax credits etc to pull in paid first responders

Well, if they would accept residents applications instead to require citizenship mandatorily, they would have more patrol officers. People with green cards should have access to these opportunities. Just sayin’
