NC MX5 2.5 at NASA Nationals Laguna Seca with Honda NSX and 350Z
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Very eventful Time Trial group at Laguna Seca, trying to figure out limits of NC Miata at this legendary track while having lot of fun with Nissan 350Z and Honda NSX .
MX5 NC with 2.5 stage 2 cams should have 190WHP but last dyno was 178WHP (I hope that was due to bad alternator )
Weight with driver 2550lbs , one way MCS coil-overs
RACEBRED GT Wing and 5'' front splitter
J&A racing oil 0W-40
225/40/17 Hoosier A7 tires
Best time 1:41.245

I've found my spirit NC #goals
love this stuff, currently doing a 2.5 swap on my 2006 and it's been rewarding, aggravating, and all around fun
love the car and nice driving. not an easy track and you handled the corkscrew really well.
Neat driving with a real emphasis on safety, man more drivers should check their mirrors like you do !

Thanks , sure we can do that . You can DM me at IG @cars4track and we can go from there.
Turn in to corners a little later
Did you have an issues with the sound meter at Laguna? Car sounds loud but maybe not so bad on exterior? Nice driving.

Thanks , car is at 99db at Laguna sound check and that was 103db day. Also it passes sound check at Sonoma where limit is 103db.
How has this motor held up? I hear mixed things about the 2.5 on track. Lots of people say they’re great and a few say they blow up (maybe tuning dependent).

First one died in 3 track days due to bad tune , second one did over 30 track days and was helped by running it without oil for few minutes by mistake . So in general I think these engines are really good , if you don't rev it over 6800rpm they should last really long time . My red line is 7500rpm but I use it ony once or twice per lap depending on the track and engin is still doing well . It is the cheapest option once stock 2.0 dies and pretty good one for the cost .

@@driver46 nice! I was told to short shift about that, so excellent to know. I won’t be competing like you, so it’s for fun and not chasing a goal. Thanks for letting me know man!

i have a 07 NC1 and yeah unfortuantely the nc1 didn’t get the refreshed MZR that the 09-15 got which was essentially a forged 2.0 with 7700 red line as opposed to 7200. the 2.5 is a great option for direct bolt on replacement and goodwin racing is personally my resource for miata stuff. however i will be going with the LS swap option for my NC. i love seeing an NC at Leguna.
Help me remember, are you a forum user over on GrassrootsMotorsports?

I can't remeber , maybe but didn't go there for long time .
I have 1993 NSX pushing 450 to 500rwhp depending on flex fuel and also had a 2013 nc prht. I was about to do the 2.5 swap with a turbo or a full engine build like high CR pistons... Ported heads and street cams until i found out that california tracks the ECU tune. Really sad

Yes ,unfortunately CA has most criminal politicians in the country. We can't change the muffler but they can fly in private jets all day long .

Your NSX must be a amazing to drive with proper HP you gave her .

@@driver46 Doubling the power of the NSX puts it in the proper power to weight ratio of what the chassis can handle (which was overbuilt thanks to Aryton Senna's input during the development).

How long did your 2.0 last? I just got a 06 with 177k I'm planning on tracking (Great videos)

Thanks . Engine was working just fine until money shift at around 178K . It worked even than but it developed ticking sound on exhaust side so I got 2.5 . It should be just fine if you use good oil and change it on time .

@@driver46 out of curiosity how do you like the 0-40 weight of oil on your nc? has it been the best option for you since you started tracking the car?

@@ckbun yes 40 grade gives more protection than original 30 when driving on track . In very hot summer conditions I used 15w-50 too but in general 0w-40 works great for track use .

@@E90 I didn't try Meisters but those are probably pretty good . Even cheap Megan racing coilovers that my car came with were pretty good untill I stared chasing last few % of time .
Your car should be in TT5 but it seems like you are running in TT3 or TT4 considering A7s are illegal for TT5/ST5 and are also limited to a 4'' splitter. P1 in TT5 ran a 1:38.9. You need to reconfigure your car to fit in class.
@driver46

Pretty much that is exactly what it is , for TT5 I have to add some weight and some of my vents are not legal in TT5 . But apart from Laguna Seca where I had very limited time on the track and first time using A7 car is actually winning frequently in TT3 on the tracks I know well.
