Dr. Yakoob, bless him, mentions a lot of pivotal points on Orientalism (18:00 - 51:00) and how we've been reduced to only consuming and not producing and we're left trying to sift through all the Orientalist narratives that especially love painting Islam in a negative light. We need more people that study/research and PRODUCE. PRODUCE books, writings, podcasts, etc. He also touches on the point that even in university institutions Muslim students are scared to speak their truth. Nothing could be further from the truth, this point definitely needs to be highlighted. People walk around and sit in their classes with trepidation, fearful how they might "appear" to others. Speak the HAQQ. The sheep can tread with trepidation, a mu'min is not that at ALL. Funny enough what the sheep doesn't realize, is if it takes a stand THEN it will be respected. Even it's detractors will respect it. Or remain as you are, a rug for the rest to walk upon, as you cower behind your weak exterior. We got dudes with beards that be looking like sheikhs with the courage of a rabbit in the field. Get a grip guys.

11:35 1. Early Islamic history has a stronger filter than the western paradigm - For Muslims, reporting about Allah and the Prophet ﷺ is a matter of heaven or hell (there is a greater risk and accountability involved when verifying accounts) - Example of New York Times on weopons of mass destruction with Iraq 2. Muslims have greater diversity on hadith - There are differences of opinions among Muslims regarding the authenticity of a given hadith (while almost all the western academics reject hadith) - Example of Imam Malik disagreeing on the hadith on birds with claws (disagreed with Shafi' madhab)

To the hadith rejectors all you have to ask them is what is their chain of narration for their religion or who are those in authority among them and see how they fall into ridicule. They can't even pretend to have one.

Hashmi has an agenda. Hashmi uses a methodology which is based on the presupposition that god doesn’t exist. How does that make any sense? He clearly has an ideological agenda.

I watched a clip the guy Hashmi made a weird statement...I am paraphrasing The Messiah is not God yet Jesus is God I was scratching my head thinking does he understand what the Christians actually believe alongside logic

how do you know they found a coin and not made a coin looking like its old and claim that's it was found . they same goes for the so called Umayyad pleasure houses . if you haven't examined it yourself and established that it dates back to Umayyad time you cant take somebody else's word for it considering that Umayyad have living enemies who could be allying with self- proclaimed unbiased individuals who in reality are unreliable source of information.

Orientalism is the opposite of critical history. Orientalism pretty much abided by the Standard Islamic Narrative (SIN).

so youre saying that its uncritical because it agreed with the Traditional Islamic Narrative (TIN) (better abbreviation because it doesnt say sin :D )

salam wrwb. why are you wearing a towel on top of your suit? is it to look middle eastern, whilst simultaneously looking western? is it for credibility? but doing so 1. doesnt make you credible, 2. doesnt make you authentically eastern or western, 3. resembles the colonised minds of the east who adopted western dress, or the confused minds of the west who think clothes style (in ways unrelated to cleanliness and modesty) speaks to piety so wear thobes etc? genuine question.
