I always say that at seas, oceans, rivers, you have to leave a lot of empty space for nature, water must also have a place for itself ... adults decide we plan and our children have no influence on how they will now ride something like this. For the rest of their lives they will have this image in front of their every time you storm - it's terrible for these children, I feel sorry for them.

@@lucynagajda8990 You and the comment above yours. Your comment is odd and insensitive. Just send thoughts and prayers to all of the people impacted. I can’t believe how insensitive and inappropriate some people can be.

@@chrisjenkins203 That person's comment is no less sensitive, and perhaps more sensitive, than all the rest, because the heart is hurting for past ... and future storms, that will do the same thing again and again. It is realistic. If people would learn from nature, we may perhaps have much less damage to natural resources, not so quickly renewable. How many storms and devastating loss must we watch over and over? before we stop building so near it? Granted, tornados can happen anywhere, but those losses right along the shores are unnecessary. They will rebuild and do it all again in four to five years.

Here's a Conscious Topic: Was trying to see what it looked like before Ian. I'm starting to notice throughout watching Ian is how "certain" people are literally living lavish while other "certain" people are living poor, minimum wage/slave wage for back breaking work for up to 10 hours a day. People can barely keep up with rent bills and children, trying to get help from the government but "certain" people are living in the lap of luxury??? This is NOT just coincidence.. Something fishy is going on and "certain" people know it. Sad.

Know that area well lived on Captiva. My land was mine but the home was basically disposable. So many roads, small bridges known " one day a storm will wipe it way" areas that it would be a great time to "do it right". Not only are the islands tricky, narrow ,overbuilt but the mentality will be get them back up and running as fast as possible. Bridge is #1 priority.

Floridians were warned well in advance what was coming, yet the made the conscious decision to stay. What did they EXPECT would happen to them and to their neighbors?! The voters of Florida have elected climate change deniers for a good four decades now. You reap what you show. Elections have consequences, indeed! What's more, the blindness of Florida's voters have had, and will continue to have a seriously negative impact on the climate of our entire planet. As to what political havoc they will continue to wreak on us, they have a chance to do the right thing in just a few weeks. There's an old saying from medieval Russia, "Tuffski shitski."

@@mikewithers299That's good, I'm glad. Yes, you are correct, south FL has much fewer sinkhole problems. They do tend to be deeper & more serious when they occur though. Tampa east, central FL & NW have a tremendously higher concentration of holes but they tend to be shallow. My concerns are mostly about coastal Tampa & inland central. Pretty much the path of Ian.

This is heartbreaking. There is already a huge housing shortage in almost every state and very little affordable housing for middle class and the poor. I hope that all those very rich folks in Florida who were not affected, that have huge million dollar homes will offer a place of shelter to those who don't have a home, until they can rebuild.

Punta Rassa to Harlem Heights is the area they are showing. The two towers would be the Mastique @1:56, a Condominium Complex on Mastique Beach Blvd. I don't even live in Florida, but he power of Google maps makes it easy to find when you zoom in and around and look for landmarks. Feel bad for the people of Florida going through this.

Basic search and rescue will be 5 days to 2 weeks. Getting core power lines back up and operational 2 to 5 weeks. Bridges roads etc are temp within days to weeks, 6 months to 2 years for proper repairs or replacements. Homes? Neighborhoods? Businesses? At best the debris removal will be a months long proposition. Rebuilding, even with quick cheap housing if done, is well over 18 months if every resource and full funds are instantly available via insurance and govt and crews... Repairs on those that can will start right away once flooding and access is dealt with. Some will get done within 6 months to a year, probably longer for those that have more than the roof and minimal lower flood damage. But odds are more likely that only the first NEW homes on repaired streets and infrastructure zones will be done 2 years out and stretching for many years longer.
