This was an NBA generation gap crossroads: past, present, and future intersecting. A team that dominated one decade vs a team that would dominate the next decade The NFL version of this: 49ers at Steelers 1981

You could say the same thing about the 1991 NBA Finals as it was Lakers (dominated the 80s) vs Bulls (dominated the 90s).

Always fun watching my favorite players (Jordan and Bryant) going head to head. Thanks for this!

With Shaq's move to LA in 1996, the Lakers became instant title favorites in the West (Utah had the last say, though). To back up the hype, the Lakers played their best games against the visiting Bulls at Great Western Forum in 1997 and 1998, all in blowout fashion. 1997 was more impressive because Shaq didn't play. Hope you have that one, boss MDBBall. ;)

You could broadcast from the forum and the picture quality would still look like it was dated in 1985.

As good as the Lakers performed in this game I still feel like the Bulls would've beaten them had they met in the 1998 Finals.

For what it’s worth, Chicago would have had homecourt

@@chrisuncleahmad during the Bulls 2nd 3-peat they were pretty dominant at home only losing 1 Finals game at the United Center those 3 championship runs so it definitely would've loomed pretty large having that advantage.

That's why it was Utah again represented the West, and not the Lakers. The Jazz countered with wits and experience over Lakers' flash and youth. In WCF, it was only g2 Lakers gave Jazz a serious scare. Somewhat discouraged come g3, the Lakers gave least resistance or thinking fishing already.

Bulls for sure would have won. Lakers needed '98 and '99 and a new to coach to overcome that hump.

Yeah as a Bulls fan this was brutal, funny part is that I missed most of this game. I had it recorded on VHS but once I saw the score I recorded over it with the All star game the following week.

The constant push for talks of Lebron v MJ just so disrespectful. Lebron isn't even qualified to be a #2 on Kobe's team, seriously all he can do is clog up the lane on offense and a liability on defense.
