I ran into Dennis at a small casino after game 1 of the 98 finals. He was playing blackjack and I asked him for permission to join the table. He gave it and for almost an hour we just sat there playing blackjack. He was playing 100 bucks a hand I was playing 5. Then they announced that I 80 was reopened westbound and I said I needed to go. He said where you from. I said Illinois and I'm a diehard Bulls fan. He said thanks for treating me like a normal person. I said not a problem. He then handed me 2k in chips and said have a safe trip. Then he saw I was wearing that year's Jordan's in black. I went it's playoffs Worm.

I was in high school when Dennis Rodman lived in Long Beach CA. He couldn't have been more nicer he bought us lunch talked to everyone on the team and wished us luck. He is actually a smart person if you listen to him. Goodlookin Dennis .

...also, if anyone doubts Rodman's commitment & passion, go watch his HOF induction speech. He was a broken man, God used basketball & Chuck Daley to save his life. He was a hurting child in a very large man's body (but his height was always overstated). Much respect for him as a Man, how open he has been about his past and who he became.

Rodman running off to Vegas during the finals is one thing that I will always remember. He will go all the way to N Korea to party, if that's what it takes. He's his own man.

Rodman was definitely one of my heroes and favorite basketball players in the 90’s. I always admired how unapologetic he was being himself. He made it cool to be different and to just be yourself.

His ex lived in Sacramento. Mom was an anesthesiologist and after their last case one day, she goes out to talk to the guy that is the lady's ride home. Very soft spoken young man, and very tall. She said, "You should play basketball. Yes ma'am, I play a little, and kind of chuckled a little. After he left, they told her who was, everyone thought it was very funny. If you ever talk to Dennis, he might remember it, apparently he thought it was pretty funny too. He had been of the cover of Sports Illustrated a couple of times at that point

I don't know if Dennis Rodman was funny, but his life story is hilarious to me every time I think about it. I may not have my facts exactly correct because I'm just remembering what I read about him over the years, but he was arrested for stealing dozens of pairs of cheap sunglasses from the airport gift shop where he worked at night as a custodian. This was after he graduated from high school, and he had no thought or interest in continuing his basketball "career." So he was fired at the airport gift shop, and he would have gone to jail, but they gave him the option of leaving town by going away to a junior college, with the plan to play JC basketball. In the meantime, he grew 8 inches in one year, after he had already turned 18. He was good right away in JC, but he didn't like anything about it, so he quit the team and school during the season. He came back home. Recruiters would knock on his door, because he had to have some potential, right? I mean, his two older sisters had been All-Americans in college at a big-time basketball school. Every time the recruiters knocked, Rodman shouted, "Go away! Leave me alone!" LOL. Okay, now I have it, Then, the episode with him blatantly stealing dozens of sunglasses from the airport gift shop occured. He had already quit a promising JC basketball career. So to keep him from going to jail, the judge "sentenced" him to leaving Dallas and going to college out of state to one of those "directional" schools (universities that are memorable only for their odd name, like Southeastern Oklahoma in Division II). And he was immediately a fantastic player there. From then on, he went to the Chicago Bulls, exhibiting none of the preferences for wearing women's clothing in public, and settling for jersey number 70 in the NBA, because the league refused to let him wear a jersey with the number 69 on it, which he wanted for it's sexual connotation. LOL.

I liked hearing all these stories, but I think my favorite was Steve Kerr's. It was funny yet also heartfelt. I feel so lucky I got to watch Rodman play, and I'm so happy that KZread has so many Rodman highlight clips to savor.

The worm has to be one of the all-time Top 25 or at least Top 50 highest IQ players to play in the NBA. His contributions, abilities, hard work, and efficiency has always been overlooked. He was a 1 man 3 ring circus but saw the game so differently than 99% of players out thee. Back in the era of fighting, I would want The Worm and/or Ron Artest on my team, js!
