The elegance, the ability to float and hang. The sharp shooter . He was Poetry. Thanks for this one, BTM
Saw Gervin go for over 50 against the Lakers and he never took the same shot or made the same move twice!

i was playing basketball with some guys and we decided to have a free throw contest.see how many free throws we could hit out of 10. i made 9 of 10 and thought i had it won. this guy hit all 10 free throws. not even the rim. all net. and we all asked him where did he learn to shoot. and he told us his dad taught him. and he then said george gervin taught his dad how to shoot.

I grew up 30 miles south of San Antonio and had the chance to watch George and Alex play against each other in the original Spurs arena in the early 80s. Two of the silkiest offensive players ever on the court. They looked like superheroes in person.

George Iceman Gervin greatest Spurs ever my favorite player
I had the opportunity to watch him in person when he was in High School. They’re all from the neighborhood and we know them all. We support them.
As we used to say them finger rolls were just absolutely nasty.
He was so much fun to watch…. One of the GOATS…. Ice Man!!!! He was deadly cold!!!
I am 58 yrs old. I grew up watching the best era in the history of the NBA. This man was a huge part of it, MR. GEORGE"THE ICEMAN"GERVIN!!!❤
I had that bada*s ICEMAN poster on my wall back in '82. The one with him palming the two ice basketballs. Before MJ, Gervin was the Man!

Jerry West said he was one of the few players he'd pay to see. Julius Erving said Ice told him how much he appreciated watching him play. Dr J said "let me tell you I'm just as big a fan of him."
Lucky to be a San Antonio native and graced with the Ice Man’s presence.
Growing up in San Antonio in the 80s, the Iceman was IT! My hero, watching him play is like art, jazz, a thing of beauty. Coolest, smoothest man in basketball.
Im 57 and from Detroit where Gervin is from as well. My jr high math teacher was an old coach of Ice. 1 summer he took the whole class to see Ice play in a closed gym game against some pros and streetball legends of Detroit. Mannnn Ice put on a show! Usually in games like this the small guards show out. But Ice is 6'7 and put on a million moves. Dunks, sweet ass reverse layups, pump fake shots, finger rolls from anywhere, turn around jumpers etc...

Kids have no concept of how unique and effortlessly smooth the Iceman was. One of a kind, never to be duplicated.
A different breed of man .
Kudos to you for finding our Spurs ABA guy. So much fun to watch here in the 70s. Ask him and Robert Parrish what they think of Michael Jordan.
One of the many names we called out growing up playing basketball .
the original ICE man
Dr. J keeps it smooth no matter what age. That guy is amazing!
Greatness flowed from him

I vividly recall George Gervin when he played for the Virginia Squires. But he was unstoppable when he was in his prime with San Antonio. My two favorite teams at that time were the Lakers and Washington Bullets. He destroyed them! I thought, is this guy ever gonna miss? Even when he missed, he barely missed! Love me some Ice Man Gervin! What a tremendous player!
I got to see George Gervin in Atlanta vs the Hawks! Probably one of the smoothest players I’ve seen on the courts! The finger roll is & was legendary! No one has done it better!

Thank You for a great video! You helped me relive my young teenage years yelling "finger roll off the glass!" in the school yard.
"Ice" Nike poster was on my wall as a youth. He was an amazing scorer and so smooth. I remember George girvin and David Thompson going to the last game for the scoring title and they both lit it up. That is a long gone day for the league, unfortunately.
This is the content I love. I hate when everyone gets into who the greatest of all time was because it's stupid argument to begin with but most of all it distracts you from discussing all the other great players and enjoying what they brought to the game which allows you to appreciate it so much more.
My dad and uncle took their younger brother my younger brother and me to see the Virginia Squires regularly. The Iceman was special!
Glad to see he's still alive. They were talking about him in the past tense.
School is in session. Time to learn more about another Legend from the past.

Growing up watching late night basketball I have to favorite players, Dr. J. and the Iceman. I spent so many nights watching the late games. Great memories.
Finally, my Uncle used to say ( The Ice Man was the best player in the NBA.) He diffently one of the best shooters in NBA history.
Hearing my brother and brother in law ( Bubbles Hawkins R.I.P) get mentioned is an indescribable feeling!!!
My man, Travis Grant of Kentucky State University, hung 69 on Ice in college. He inducted Travis into the College Basketball HOF and told the story.
Yeah I love going back watching him play on here. I didn’t grow up with him. He had already retired years before I began watching basketball but the first time I saw his clips I was amazed with how smooth he was. He wasn’t fast nor was he slow he was like water just moving freely through rocks, stones and boulders and he shot the ball so gracefully with ease. It was like the ball to the basket was like an extension of his body. Definitely one of my favorite players.
This was badass I really liked this video, thanks!
The Iceman is better than anybody playing now he was unbelievable

Excellent video! Thanks for reminding us about the great George "Iceman" Gervin.
One of the few mythical magical players in NBA history. It's almost like it never really happened. His style was way too effortless to be real.

Gervin had style and finesse for sure. He let the game come to him then pick it all apart. Smooth moves 👍🏾
Am glad I had the pleasure to enjoy his career as a kid and teenager 🏀🏀
That "FINGER ROLL" was so good it was ridiculous and did it dam near anywhere on the court.. George "ICEMAN" Gervin #44... (LEGEND)
That finger roll was so unique that no one has been able to duplicate it into a signature shot yet❤
Yes Indeed . Was Bless to see him play.
From 8th grade thru highschool, I idolized the Iceman! Watching #44 was like watching him in slowmo. THen in 85' when I graduated I saw a special player enter the league from North Carolina and I was like "UH OH" This when everyone was all about Dominic Wilkins
Watch him play against my Lakers and would be on the edge of my seat the whole time back in the day. He was the truth and for sure should be in MANY of these greatest ever conversations thats for sure.
Truthfully I never wattched George Geriving but I heard on his talents and skill through NBA talk show. He was so smooth moving and shooting very different from another superstars, his fingers roll was amazing
Thanks for doing GG!!! The Bulls were my lifelong team (from the outer Chicago area) and the Spurs were my "West" team beginning in 1990 when The Admiral was drafted. GG is one of those 'forgotten' players. Shawn (sp), inlight of Brunson's new NYN playoff game scoring record, maybe we can get a Bernard King episode, or maybe Oscar Robertson (he was a BAAAD Man) or Dr. J, another 'forgotten' juggernaut. For those who never saw Dr. J, he was smooth, cool, and strong/showtime on the court, like 'Coffee Black' from 'Semi-Pro', but too cool to be goofy. Keep up the great work!
George Gervin was DEFINITELY a once-in-a-lifetime, one-of-a-kind player!!! I’m a diehard Boston Celtics fan and the first poster I’d get if they still made it wouldn’t be of Bob Cousy or Bill Russell or John Havlicek or Dave Cowens or Larry Bird or Kevin McHale or Robert Parish. It would be of the “Iceman” sitting all in white on that block of ice dribbling those two white basketball. You wanna talk cool? You don’t ge no cooler than “Ice!"
Great video!❤
Met Him in Person, Friendly and Classy Guy-full of Life. I'm Glad, He was a Spurs player.

Super video! What a player! I just subscribed. Your channel is fun!
Went to a bar in the San Antonio airport called Gervins. Many folks had no idea who he was even with his posters all over. The lady who runs it saw I ‘knew so she came over and told me she got him to sign 2 basketballs for auction. The first one sold for $25. She took the other off the auction.
The best poster EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WOW! Most likely, he is one of Michael Jordan's inspiration! I just learned about him now. OMG, he is really good!
Growing up in Denver during the 70's, I saw ABA era George Gervin many times. If he played today, he would have developed a more reliable 3 point shot and simply excelled in today's game. Gervin was such a fluid scorer that he'd probably average 35-40 ppg. Gervin's game was tailor made for today's NBA.
Saw him play 1978 or 79. He was huge and had an incredible wing span. One of the greatest
4 time scoring champ
I remember seeing Ice when I was a kid. He would come out in his shooting shirt/warm up with the word “ICE” on the back. Not his last name like his teammates but, “ICE”. He would get the quietest 50 points I ever saw.
Cold ass name fr
Thank you The Ice Man one of the most overlooked players that played. A long with Jamal Wilkes both overlooked and the least talked about. Finally no whose the goat conversation. The acknowledgement of greatness and also Hall of Famers.
Thank you Mr. David. I saw George Gervin play in Rome Italy against Banco di Roma in the early 80's. It was the end of his career but it was still great to see him. He was still very imaginative. All the other players clearly revered him. The Roman crowds seemed pleased and excited. I grew up on the streets of New York and I remember starting to shoot the finger roll, like the big kids and young men who played in tournaments. I played in The Rucker Tournament three summers with three different teams.
