Muggsy was so much fun to watch; the guy was amazingly talented & SMART. His height didn't limit him, it just created different opportunities than most other players have.

Averaging 11 PPG, 10 APG and 4 RPG with 1.7 steals per game in 93-94 at his height was pure madness. All while only turning it over 2.2 times per game at that. Bogues was an anomaly, and perhaps only a three-ball away from making an all-star game in his prime.

Making it to the league, starting and having success for x amount of years at 5'3 is all-star and hall of fame wrapped into one lol. There is literally no one else like him. My younger brother played high school and college ball at this height at point guard as well. He reminds me of Muggsy, but never took it seriously to get to the next level.

Those 90s Hornets were something special. Much love to my man Muggsy!

No disrespect to spud, muggsy was fringe all star, spud was a novelty act . Not even close

He really needs to be in the Hall of Fame. I grew to 5'7" but I was always short, at 5'3 ~ 5'5" until junior/senior year in college, so Muggsy was the one that I admired more than any. Can't imagine him holding the ground and playing his game in the league filled with players who are, on average, more than a foot taller than he is. 14 years, and once averaging 11 points per game - his heart to compete is just maybe as strong as MJ/Bird...or maybe higher.

After Jordan, Muggsy is my next favorite player because him and I are the same height; he helped me get that drive and determination to not let me being vertically challenged stand in my way. I have a jersey/shirt of him to this day and I wear it with pride! The man is the definition of legend!

@johncraftenworth7847 if Mugsy had that mindset, he never would have not only played in the NBA, but also be the all-time assist leader for the Charlotte Hornets. If Spud Webb had that mindset, he never would have beaten his teammate, Dominique Wilkins, in the Slam Dunk contest at 5'7. Just like them, our height isn't something we can change. So they and many other short men out there are role models. Thanks for the input though.

@Frank Dudek yep but guess what is even crazier. This was around the time kobe got traded during the draft for a young Vlade. Imagine if they never traded him for kobe. It would've been a rookie kobe with gill, zo, grand mama etc. The hornets were known to let it fly with their players. Kobe would've played every game he wanted to those firstc3 years. The Lakers held him back those first few years until Phil Jackson came in 2000.

Muggsy was a great player that played with his heart and didn't let the other players size intimidate him. One of my favorite memories was when he blocked Patrick Ewings shot from behind.

Loved Muggsy. My brother was a Hornets fan but we were both short players so he gave us a lot of confidence we could still compete and we had huge respect for him. Great video, love your work, keep em coming!

This dude was amazing. For him to be able to dictate the flow of the game on both ends, given his height, is nothing short of spectacular. If you are a basketball fan, I think you are a fan of his as well because he played the game the right way.

His Height Was Actually An Asset 👌🏿! Muggsy Being A First Round Pick Should Tell People Something. Muggsy Was That Guy From Dunbar (Baltimore, MD The Best Highschool Team Ever BTW) ...Wake Forest...The League 👊🏿.

Adult Muggsy is smaller than half the 6th graders in my kid’s school, so you know that dude was _insanely_ good.

This man deserves far more recognition.

Then intangibles were off-the-charts. However, Mugsy was the most responsible point guard I've ever seen with the basketball. His career assist-to-turnover ratio is an astounding 5:1. Let that sink in!

Maaaaaaaaan those were the glory days! So much fun in the Charlotte coliseum screaming so loud to get to the biggest logo..

I was a huge Mugsy fan. Dude gave larger point guards absolute heII.

Story time: I grew up in the Chicago suburbs and got to see a lot of games at both the Chicago Stadium and the United Center. For some reason, in the early 90s I saw a lot of Bulls/Hornets games. Maybe its because more tickets were available, I dunno. So I dont remember exactly what year it was, probably late into the 92-93 season, my aunt got tickets and invited me along. We got there fairly early and the seats weren't very good. Despite the Rose colored glasses a lot of people have about the old Chicago Stadium, there were some absolutely shit seats. At least in the United Center, you might be far away in an upper deck somewhere, but you can still see everything. We got there really early and it was the first time I ever got to see players warming up and shooting around long before the game. My aunt brought binoculars, and I was looking around to see if i could recognize the players warming up when i saw what looked like a kid just drilling jumpers from all over. Muggsy was injured a lot at that point and not expected to play. At that time he was out with a hamstring injury... and that "little kid" drilling jumpers had his upper leg wrapped with Ace bandage. Zeroing in on him with the binoculars, I was excited to discover it was actually Muggsy! Now Muggsy didnt shoot a lot in games, especially threes. Definitely more of a pass-first, set up the offense kind of point guard. But as he kept shooting and kept getting further away from the basket, he never missed. Not one. 23 feet, 25 feet, 27 feet, back and back and back, until he was shooting elbow jumpers from nearly half court/out of bounds. I played basketball and wasnt blessed with great range. I had to put a lot on NBA threes to get them in and it felt more like a heave than a shot, but here was Muggsy with no extra effort to his form nailing everything from what we would call Curry range today. With a blown out hamstring. I was blown away. I had no idea he could shoot like that. My favorite player at the time was Craig Hodges and I always loved shooting, so I was just in awe watching Muggsy effortlessly shoot 100% from the floor from so far away. I couldn't take my eyes off of him. Now, it was a different time, a different era, and players just didnt take those kinds of shots, but I just couldn't understand why Muggsy wasnt taking a dozen of these every night. Sure, it's different when someone is defending you, and every defender in the NBA had a half a foot more in height than him (except Spud and Robert Pack) but still. Muggsy could shoot the lights out y'all, he really could.

As a 5’6” guy myself I was very drawn to Muggsy and Spud Webb. And the Hornets were definitely a team I watched. The 90’s were full of some of the best ever.

Being from Baltimore, I had the pleasure of watching Muggsy in high school. And boy was it a treat! And to this date, that team he played on at Dunbar High School holds the nations record for being the number one ranked high school basketball team ever.

They showed some Hornets games on TV back then, in Serbia, because Vlade played there. I became obsessed with Muggsy and Rice, I saw how beautiful this game is through them and have been hooping since. I had a lot of heroes in the ex-Yugoslavia basketball scene, but these two guys were who I wanted to be

When I first time I saw Muggsy Bogues in the NBA game I was like WTF ! kids can play in the NBA? But I didn't know anything about Muggsy cos I was a kid from Eastern Europe Poland whos who was lucky to see it once-a-week NBA show on Polish TV. I was baffled that guy with his size can play like this.

When thinking about Muggsy, I like to think about this question--"Of the players that were ranked top 75 by the NBA, how many of them would have ever made it onto a NBA court/roster if they were only 5"3?".

@@icyboy771zNot only was Muggsy 5:3, he was a starter most off his career, and he's not that far from averaging a double-double (I think he's at 9 points/7 assists or something). He was the starting PG for the first expansion team to win a playoff series (the 92/93 Hornets over the Celtics...sent McHale into retirement). You may also want to look up his high school team in Baltimore--probably the greatest HS team ever (three or four NBA players, all from that school district). One of those teammates was the late Reggie Lewis, who was on that 93/94 Celtics team and passed away the next year.

@@g.shumway5925 In my opinion lots of short guys can play but aren't given a chance in NBA. Muggsy was drafted not solely because he could play but also because he and Manute Bol teamed up had marketing purposes. Isaiah is an all-star at 5'9 and was the last pick. If he wasn't chosen likely he would have ply his trade in Europe. Many guys 6'0 and under could hang with the big boys but sometimes teams rather go with someone taller.

Seeing Larry Johnson makes me realize that I'm really old. 😳😢

Bogues was a great player who made use of his speed and jumping ability to perform as well as a star player. When Bogues was around, the Hornets were a powerhouse team representing the NBA in the 1990s.

Mugsy was the reason why Charlotte was every childs favorite NBA player, including me!!

So fun to watch! I feel like a player him should be in the Hall of Fame more so for inspiration and being practically mythical, plus beating insane odds to have a long NBA career.

The good old days. There were a couple other shorties back then, too. Not as short as Mugsey, but Spud Webb won the Dunk Contest in 86', and then Earl Boykins started playing in the late 90's. I'm 6'3" and could barely dunk a basketball in my prime. So, watching a little person make it in the NBA is just such an amazing thing to see.

How could anyone not love Mugsy. SO many games dominated in Hornets era, with teammates like Dell Curry , Mourning and Johnston was a beast back then before his injury.

Don’t let anyone tell you different Muggsy Bogues was a problem and someone that you would definitely have wanted to see in person I have the chance to see him playing when I was way younger and I always would say how is that tiny dude frustrating Michael Jordan? If you ever watch those games on the replay, notice that any time, Mike had the ball off of a rebound or coming down on a fast break he would always hesitate and glance behind him whenever they played, because he never knew where mugs he was going to come from, but he knew he was coming.

Spud Webb and Muggsy Bogues made me believe a 5'6" white kid could compete on the public courts. I went from the last guy picked to the first or second because of my ability to handle the ball and control the pace of the game.

Bogues was a monster player, he was everywhere on the court and his height never worried him only the other team he was playing. His game IQ was high and his speed, ball handling and assist was one of the best.

The hornets have not been the same without Mugs. In the 90’s with LJ and Zo!!🔥🔥. I watched him play live quite a few times and he was 100% in charge of Charlotte!!! It was a blast!! Bogues was one of my favorite players when I was a kid. Plus, for some reason as they talked about him in this video, they make it sound like he died. He is still alive.

I was born and raised in CLT and have been a Hornets fan since our inaugural season. In the 9 seasons Mugsy was here he was the heart and soul. LJ was exciting, Zo was intense, but Mugsy was the undisputed leader of the Hornets. I loved watching him play just as much as all of the others.

I saw you at the Eintracht Game with Basti Red and I thought I know that voice, but since you are using this look down camera angle I would have never have guessed that you are tall and slim and a Frankfurter and Supporter of the SGE.
