Dan Daly was actually 25 years old when he enlisted. He was 27 during the Boxer Rebellion.

Yeah, it seems like one of the sources he was using made the age mistake as I see it in the War History Online website. It seems whoever wrote that article forgot how to do math and didn't bother to double-check. Leading to Fat Electrician repeating the same error.

As a Marine M60E3 gunner I have to agree that it does sound fun. I am not sure exactly which machine gun Daly used, but it probably had a firing rate of at least 500 rounds per minute.

even with a machine gun you need the time to reload and enough ammunition because you will miss some shot and target Aquisition. Especially if they actually thought they were bullet proof it would be a lot harder than it seems.

@@CinesterCharlieI would recommend popular internet stories to star with. Things like creepypasta or r/nosleep go crazy on the algorithm if you pick the right stories. If horror isn’t your thing there are plenty of other genres on Reddit that allow people to stretch their creative writing muscles and I can almost guarantee you’ll find something that piques your interest. Good luck! And love the content!

It's worth noting that Daly and Butler are not the _only_ men to receive two Medals of Honor in history. During the Great War, there were five other men who also received two Medals of Honor; the distinction is that Daly and Butler were the only men who earned it for two separate actions, whereas the other five received it (once each from the Army and the Navy) for the same action. The rationale behind limiting a person to only a single Medal of Honor is to discourage Marines from doing reckless things to try and get a Medal. No, nobody will say that it was to discourage Marines specifically, but there have been exactly 7 men in US history to earn two Medals of Honor, and every single one of them was a Marine. Make of that what you will.

So, Gunnery Sgt is two ranks below 1Sgt, it goes, Gunnery, MSgt, then 1st Sgt. I think what you are thinking of is Master Gunnery Sergeant which is E-9. (MSgt and 1Sgt are the same pay grade 1Sgt witch is E-8 just does more)

Actually E-7 is Gunny, and E-8 is either MSgt or 1st Sgt depending on which route you take. MSgt is the MOS Expert that leads to E-9 Master Guns. 1st Sgt is a billet as the senior most enlisted advisor to the company commander that leads to E-9, SgtMaj

@@CinesterCharlie that was "allegedly" a message sent by the German soldiers to their command. Some say that message was not actually sent though and that it was either in a newspaper in Germany, or it was in a German immigrant newspaper in America. But I like to think the first story is true.
