A couple things to add: don't wear "tactical" branded clothes, don't put tactical stickers on your car, conceal carry (with training of course), have an exit strategy and run scenarios in your head and how you will respond to them.

It's important but not the most important. Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Honor, Integrity, and Personal Courage are all more critical

I look over my shoulder every 30 sec or so. Just how my grandfather raised me. Not very incognito I'm sure, but very effective. Gotten out of 5-6 situations between being on the street and on the road too.

Me too, always trying to get my wife and daughters to pay more attention. Today I picked up my daughter from Pantera where she had lunch with another high school friend...they walked out together and stood there a few minutes waiting for the friends dad. I had been there in the parking lot five minutes and keep g eye on a homeless and unstable guy having an argument with himself walking back and forth between of the outdoor tables. He wasn't screaming, but louder than conversational. He was 15 to 20 feet from the girls. The dad showed up and my daughter jumps in my truck...so I ask her about the guy...."what guy?" She never noticed. I made her watch a minute so she could see what she missed. I'm not saying he was necessarily dangerous...only that there was a strange person, dressed unusually, acting usually. Teach your kids...the ounce of prevention is worth the pound of cure. Just be balanced and don't make them paranoid.

@@ryanday9737 I agree totally! I've encountered the same thing with my female friends. I've been hanging out with them and I always notice guys watching them way before they do and I usually have to point them out. One time I was going through town in a vehicle and past a female friend and noticed a out 15 yards behind her there was a dude watching her and following her slowly so I circled around a couple times to watch the guy and make sure I was right and then I pulled up ahead of her, got out and went straight to her and told her what was going on. As soon as the guy saw me go straight to her and I made eye contact with him he immediately stopped and went the other way. I made her get in the vehicle with me and me and the person I was riding with drove her home.

The guy in the grey hoodie looks like the kind of guy who'd get a hold of your car keys and take a dump on the drivers seat.

Very good advice for everyone. When I walk at nights by myself or walk my dog. I look around and make direct eye contact with some of the slow driving vehicles in my residential neighborhood that drive by slowly and pass by just to let them know, hey my radar is spinning and see you. Times have changed for worse nowadays and got to be vigilant. Thank you and good video!

Turning your head to Pugh into your elbow can be another Way to look in a particular direction without seeming creepy or paranoid! :)

After living in Central America for 7 years it became almost second nature for me to always find a subtle way to look over my shoulder, whether it be via shop windows or a quick glance. Its also super important to be able to spot a potential threat in a crowd.. if you lock eyes with someone and you get a bad vibe, trust your gut and maneuver your way out of there. I've been in situations where I had to flag down a taxi, explain the situation and pay him just to chill with me until the person who was following me passed by. Stay safe out there

In the trade its known as dry cleaning... i.e making sure no one is following you. Its actually pretty easy to spot a lone person following you and if you are being observant in a city you can usually spot someone following you within 3-4 turns. The tricky ones are teams, 8+ people, all rotating their get ups and using techniques so they don't actually "follow" you. Thats when skill comes into it and its not unheard of for folks to take 1-2 hours to travel a fairly short distance on foot because they are dry cleaning.

As a mere mortal, I don't think any team would follow me, unless they mistook me for someone else. Still, it might make sense in some situations to take the long way and avoid complications...

Mad respect for the tips. I live in Jamaica🇯🇲. I'm not saying I'm the best at situational awareness, but I practice some of the tips you mentioned. I've noticed too often nowadays that people are so lost in their phones that they make themselves the perfect targets. It actually makes me sad when i see it. But i have the utmost respect for men like you who try to spread some light back into the world.

The quickest way I’ve noticed someone following me is the flashing lights in the rear view mirror.

I prevented a man either raping of robbing a young girl a few months ago in Australia. On the way back to my hostel from the gym i noticed a man not far from the hostel, hood up, watching the girls outside as they were on their phones. I watched him a moment to make him aware im onto him. By the time i dropped my bag into my room and ran back out to check in the girls, he was gone and a girl was gone. I turned the corner to an unlit road and seen one girl walking while talking on the phone, and thr man was literally 2 meters behind her creeping up on her. I began ti run at him and he ran and ran across a busy road in front of traffic. The girl still completely oblivious still talking on her phone i told her to please go back inside and told her she was seconds away from being attacked by that man. She didnt even say thanks and walked back to the hostel still in her phone.. so i stood and kept my eyes on the man still running away and called the police.. Iv always been one to be aware if my surroundings and of the sketchy individuals. Some other people are too naive and think nothing can happen to them..

I never have this problem. I'm so repulsive and annoying that nobody wants to follow me. One time someone was following me, so I turned around and tried to talk to them, but they just ran away. :smileyfacecrying:

situational awareness is a talent. its like a paranoia based on realistic situation at the moment and knowing how to react and it is more than a common sense.

I’m definitely always aware of my surroundings

I’ve applied this method as a business man traveling globally and the only time I had to go on the offensive was in downtown Chicago. It’s all about keeping your head in the game!🤠

Good stuff guys, keep up the great work! Situational awareness and being aware of your surroundings and possible danger areas or objects should be something that everyone works to develop and use on a regular basis and for general purpose.

After a long day of hard work, Tactical Rifleman videos are even more enjoyable.

And stay away from white vans with tinted windows

This is good advice I've grown up in some of the shadiest of neighborhoods in a third world country where mugging and druggies are all too common. Nope I'm not a big guy nor was I trained in anything I only started doing MMA this year, but I was never a victim of a mugging or a meth head stabbing (which was quite common). I'm sure it also took an amount of luck but I guess being aware of your surroundings at all times and me drawing as little as possible attention to myself didn't hurt my chances either. stay safe everyone.

I watched a vid on the news about a girl kidnapped at the mall. The video showed all of her and the kidnappers movements even the actual attack. It was very clear throughout if she had even a moderate situational awareness she could have saved her life. She was totally absorbed in her phone and she lost her life.

If I could make a suggestion: could you remake this but for a specific audience - I have a 15 yo daughter and it would be good to have her watch. She does much of this already but reminders are always good.

Love it! So helpful. . . For the who don't already pay attention.

great video! always stay aware of your surroundings. another thing i would add to this is, if you are waiting in your car for someone, get out and wait next to it. someone can easily roll up and rob/hurt you when trapped in your car. this why some police officers call their car "the tomb". if you don't want to get out of the car, have it running with doors locked. if someone rolls up, peddle to the metal.

Fantastic info. Had to learn the hard way being raised half my life in a high crime area ( South West Atlanta, Ga.) Always keeping tabs on what`s around you. Glad I left years ago.

Reflective surfaces come in handy. You don't always have to sit facing the front entrance. Bad guys are thinkers too

Good video and tips. Regarding your guard dog , when you picked him up like you did, you looked like you were going to throw your dog at the perp!!! Loved it.

All the years ive been training the one skill i have developed the most was my awareness to my surroundings... The one skill i do cherish the most.. If you see a problem before it happens will help you avoid it so you can be safe.. Ok i guess now i should watch the video before commenting lol.. 😀

First thing first is always avoid sketchy situations . People be thinking the Rambo billy badass all it takes is rubbing off someone's ego and you end up killed for what nothing but pride. Violence like this is what I hated most about living in urban inner city environments. Don't be a prey animal like a rabbit amongst wolves.

Physiologically, women have better peripheral vision than men do. Another nonchalant way to check your rear is by lowering your head which extends your peripheral vision further back. A slight tilt of the head to the left or right side can also enhance this technique extending your view on the given side

Yesterday my wife almost got run over by a car. We were in a pedestrian area, where you would not even expect cars. He was parking and all of a sudden, started driving backwards. We were strolling right behind him - maybe 8-10 yards distance. I had actually noticed the car, was aware of its presence, but did not expect this sudden action at all - so I was totally surprised. My first reflex was to jump out of the way. Then I saw, that my wife was totally unaware of the danger, just looking at her phone. Talking OODA loop now. My first instinct was to attack the car - really funny in retrospect, but just being honest here. Since that obviously did not compute as a feasible option, as soon as it hit the neocortex, I just startet shouting at the top of my lungs and was preparing to pull my wife out of the danger zone. Thanks god, he somehow heard that shouting and stood on his break - less than 3 yards away. It was fucking scary. To complete the story - I let the driver live (my wife later told me, she was sure he was stoned) but get away with a little scare himself - rest assured of that. Anyways - why do I tell this - because it is about situational awareness - my lesson: Dont assume the people you are with (wife, kids, friends, …) are aware even if you are - and also be prepared to support them - have this in mind - always. I am blessed to still have my wife - rest assured, I will be more ready next time … That was just too close a call for my taste. And just as an add-on: Usually I always carry a small IFAK and a CAT - except, of course - then and there - that was lesson #2. Never slip. Just sharing. Rabbit Out. 🐾

One I had a while back was I was being approached at night and there were street lights in the distance, so far so that they casted a long shadow of the person behind me as well as me being able to hear their footsteps. Use everything to your advantage. Nothing came of this scenario but when we were leaving, police were in the area looking for him.

Very good video. Another one I use is; in a high-traffic area, quickly seek out an object to take pictures or selfies of, maybe having a moment to take a quick two-three seconds of the person of interest/the threat. If they are close they "should" walk on pass, if they feel they have been "burned," they will drop off. At this moment, look for two to four others, because professionals tail people in surveillance teams; using a boxing method. Or, after identifying a tail (pay close attention to height, gait and footwear), go into a large high traffic department store with multiple exits, act as though you are shopping, look for the threat by doubling back and/or stopping to talk to a salesperson. Note: do not go into confined areas like bathrooms. Travel in groups of two or more adults, when possible.

Very good info and very serious topic, although I did laugh when you picked the dog up! My dog is invaluable to me as a way to not become a victim. I do not only rely on him, and think of him as a big teddy bear, he's very nice, but he's also a 65# canine who has my back. Thanks!

When I traveled extensively in other countries, I would buy a "souvenir" knife every day, including a receipt dated for that day. Never had to explain myself to the local police, but...had they stopped me, I had the excuse ready that I simply had not returned to my hotel room since the purchase. Once in a certain South American country, I picked up on a group of 5 nice young men whose travels seemed to mirror my own. I purchased a machete and a large file, then sat down in the shade of a palm tree and went to work sharpening it. When I was done, the machete was put into my backpack with the handle sticking out. They decided to seek entertainment elsewhere. But, situational awareness is the first defense. If you aren't paying attention, the criminals will attack when it best serves them.

Check 6 often! OODA loop! Keep a safe distance. Walk wide around corners. Easy access to weapon,knife or gun!

I studied in Russia for 11 weeks three years ago, and I had to think long and hard when I got there how I'd go about enjoying St. Petersburg the same way that the people living there do instead of just being a tourist. By the end of the first week, I figured out how to dress and outwardly behave the same way the people there do, and I stopped carrying anything at all in my back pockets. Every week, I ventured a little further out from the university that I was staying at, but I never went so far that I wouldn't be able to easily find my way back without pulling up a phone app. Be adventurous, but also be alert and be careful.

Code yellow - you see or are aware that danger could go on you, so you be on the qui vive. Code red - you have to fight for your life or flee the threat. Code orange - a threat is sighted and you need to prepare to flee or fight. This is a bit of situational awareness.

I love on a college campus and I always put away my phone when walking to and from buildings, especially considering that the campus is quite literally across the street from downtown. It’s honestly alarming to see how many kids have their heads straight down looking at their phones, even while crossing the street, just no awareness of what’s going on around them at all.

Could also kneel and tie your shoe to take a quicj look. Not out of pattern and you could slow them or even make them walk away.

I always do 360 checks and walk like I know where I am going aka act confident. Being aware saved my life I spotted a guy coming stalking me and I was able to get help. I couldn't sleep with the lights off for a while.

If something doesn't feel right I like to duck into an open store and nonchalantly keep an eye on the window to make sure the person goes by and isnt lingering in the area. Added benefit is the shopkeeper can summon the police if I am without a phone for some reason.
