In today’s episode of Impact Theory, I’m joined again by Jocko Willink to discuss the complexities of modern warfare, leadership, and the influence of social media on public opinion.
Jocko Willink is a retired Navy Seal, globally recognized leadership expert and author of one of the most empowering books ever, “Extreme Ownership”. In today’s discussion he details his leadership principles and explains how to apply them. He also talks about building relationships and trust, understanding human nature, and learning to control your ego and emotions.
We also cover:
- Foreign interventions
- Applying military strategies to business decisions
- Active listening and bridging gaps between opposing views
- Dynamics of power
- Power of memeable concepts and commitment to change
- Importance of maintaining one's freedom in the face of tyranny
- Social media's role in triggering emotional responses
- Self-reliance and the American spirit
- Role of leadership in guiding public opinion and avoiding manipulation
- Avoiding the "mob mentality" to effectively guide
- Israel's strategy against Hamas and long-term consequences
- Jocko's perspective on Putin's pride and potential strategy
- The intrinsic human desire for freedom and control
From discussing the pitfalls and emotional manipulation prevalent on social media to the strategies behind psychological warfare and the current geopolitical landscape, Jocko does not shy away from addressing the pressing issues of our time.
This conversation on building resilience, strategic thinking over emotional reactions, and the enduring power of freedom is sure to shift how you view the world and your role within it. Remember, in a world where chaos reigns, it's your clarity and your mission that makes the difference.

Powerful Insights From Jocko Willink:
"I think right now, what we need is someone that's less polarizing and has a more open mind and is more concerned about, or looking more to find solutions and compromise and figure out how to make things work, rather than, hey, here's what the party that put me in this position wants to have happen. And…what that results in is oftentimes nothing happening."
“Come up with a flexible plan and you start to move in that direction and then you iterate and make changes to the plan as you get closer. But you're still sticking within the principles that you believe and still going towards the end state that you're trying to reach. That's what a leader should be doing and that's what leaders should be doing."
"They can suppress, they can suppress the instinct for freedom that human beings have for a certain period of time. But I don't believe that they can actually extinguish the flame of freedom."
"I'm going to make small decisions, and I'm going to continually assess, and that's what I'm doing all the time. And that's what a good leader does is look and make small adjustments and pay attention to the feedback."

If Jocko ran for President youd treat him like Trump 1000%. You have Zero clue how blind you are to what is going on. You worship politicians that dont even claim US/America anymore. They are soooo blind they cant even see their Party is claiming a new country while destroying this one. They are pushing businesses out of NY and California for their trillion dollar companies(black rock, vanguard ect) to buy the real estate cheap. They have warehouses Full of replacement workers they pay and protect. Are they gonna vote out of the US and pull China in? In turn it will cripple the US?

Emotion can get the strong minded defeated. Emotion opens a weakly fortified door and allows a dominate force to take over control fully. Rational determination recognizes the weakness immediately and either fortifies the weak door or abandons it as a lost cause. Sometimes it's better to count the losses as lessons to NEVER repeat again. If you can not realize the difference, then you have a weak spot that you need to strengthen, or you had better find a different route, to find success and full strength. There is no room to sympathize with someone else's emotional discord, as that weakens your own resolve. Pandering to someone else's weak emotions, when they don't completely want to change, only brings you down to their weak level. It is better to turn your back to them and walk out. AND that could apply to family too. So suck it up and get your own house in order and keep it that way.

Vs. the stark reality of how our largely unelected oligarchy works in reality... I mean no disrespect.. & I like Jocko as well .. but we can't afford to be this naive.. As smart as he is on many topics, he completely lost the plot when he started talking about Ukraine. He keeps thinking that the right strategy is asymmetric insurgency, ignoring what will happen to the civilian population if the front collapses to draw the Russians in and fight an insurgency. There will be a massacre on a level not seen since the Holocaust. Also, Russia doesn't have infinite resources either. It's not the Soviet Union. A 10:1 loss ratio would absolutely crush them. They're almost out of armor already and the main thing they have is artillery and aviation. The reason they've been able to advance a few km this year is because there is massive shortage of 155mm shells. It's that simple. He's so out of touch with the realities of this war that he keeps looking at everything through the prism of his own outdated experience. This war is nothing like the war he fought. It is shattering paradigms daily. For starters, it has finally rendered the tank obsolete. When a $2K drone takes out a $2M tank, the asymmetry is already there.

But it took hearing this particular conversation which has helped me to get to this moment, this pivotal point in my understanding of what was otherwise so over complex. Very simple in both method and presentation and has left me without the necessity to dissect. And I'm in the UK, but that remains irrelevant. Endless appreciation and gratitude to you both.

Every time I hear an ex-military talks about "Freedom", I say sure, it is one of the things, but show me which war was so much of a threat to the US' freedom that it was justify. I'd say ONE war: WWII. That's it. As a immigrant who came from a country where freedom was never a problem, I'd say this is NOT what "makes America Great". Every single western country has freedom, that is not the exceptional part. From an immigrant perspective, OPPORTUNITY is what make America exceptional. I could have never achieved what I achieved in the country of my origin.

    2 ай бұрын

@@ForgingFreedomTV Cool name! And thanks for asking... In short, there's no such thing as free healthcare (anywhere), there's only levels of subsidization coupled with varying qualities of management. On that side of the debate, they think that under a "single payer" system, regardless of quality, healthcare is better spread between "haves and have-nots". On the other hand, there's also no "free market" in healthcare ( anywhere ) but people on this side of the debate want more market directed pricing. To them, healthcare is a good, and all goods are subject to economic laws. They think that, not only does healthcare pricing come down on it's own with less bureaucratic price regulation, but money is directed where consumers want it most. I think I tried to frame both sides fairly. I admit it's easier to say it the dumb way.

Trump is the only one threatening political violence. His followers are the only ones that were willing to betray the country by attacking the capitol building on January 6, 2021. There had not been violence like that since the War of 1812 against the British. Let us hope that cooler heads prevail this time and the right does not listen to Trump’s incitement to violence.

When are u people going to realize, THESE ARE THE TYPES OF PEOPLE WE NEED TO GET ELECTED! If you don't want to be a politician, GREAT! Run and get elected and then leave after you've done your part. I totally understand where you're coming from, but I'd give the guys more credit than that. Not asking questions doesn't mean soldiers don't see whats going on, or don't still wonder how or why they're being told to do certain things. Aa soldier is like an employee in a company. You may question your manager/ceo's business strategy yourself, but at the end of the day, you're being paid to perform your job, so you wouldn't necessarily call one out or demand an explanation, because you aren't owed one if its not applicable to your job. If anything, I think Jocko and most soldiers have the best perspective. Just because they're not constantly challenging their leaders authority doesn't mean they don't still see whats going on. It just means they understand they have a job to do, and if they want to question their commanders, they can do it off mission. America didn't get to where it is now because the soldiers don't question their commanders, far from it. It got this way because the majority of the civilian population don't question anything, and blindly follow those in charge. Soldiers/veterans are actually some of the most vocal.

This is the problem with the US - hypocrisy. The US was willing to go to nuclear war because it didn't want Russian forces in the sovereign country of Cuba in 1962. Well Russia has the same objection in Ukraine - completely fair. To add to that Ukraine has a massive Russian population. Since the war started in 2014 Ukraine slaughtered over 10,000 Russian civilians yet the US thinks Russia should just sit back? The US in comparison only lost 3,000 civilians on 9/11 and then went to war destroying the middle east.

@@MS-wz9jm We have a huge population of Mexican citizens living in the United States of America. We don’t let Mexico come and attack us. Russia has normal relations with Mexico yet we are not taking over Mexico either because they doing business with Russia. Your argument is laughable and lies. Russia killed millions of Ukrainians and sent them all over to Siberia and put Russians in eastern Ukraine. Eastern Ukraine is UKRAINE. IT HAS BEEN RECOGNIZED ALONG WITH CRIMEA AS UKRAINE SINCE THE USSR EVAPORATED INTO RUIN BECAUSE $$$ problems with corrupt government. Now stop your propaganda and lies. It’s obvious you are trying to send a BS message to sway people against Ukraine. 🤣. Why not just fix the plumbing and install utilities in the rest of the country and stop stealing toilets from your neighbors.

I like these guys a lot, but there is a certain naiveté about how things really work that underlies this conversation. I don't know if they're trying to walk a line but as much as they say they don't want to get into politics, at times, they sound like politicians, especially Jocko.

I'll give an example too: if you look at early videos of Trump after he won the election, he actually did try to take a more conciliatory tone until Comey showed up at Trump Tower with the debunked Steele Dossier. Trump knew it was a pathetic attempt to blackmail him that he saw thru. Surprisingly, there is a PBS Frontline that documents the moment Trump realized he would have anything but a normal presidency. I'll see if I can find the link.

While I agree with him on the majority of the things he is talking about, there a few that the is straight up wrong about. Like "America protects freedom" bit, for example. America does not protect freedom outside of America, quite the opposite actually. Those kids in other countries that don't have beds and bedrooms that he is talking about, those are often the countries that America invaded and destroyed for their natural resources, or because "America" didn't like their socio-economic structure, and they urgently needed some "democracy" brought to those countries. If someone is critical of the USA Today, it's usually because of the US foreign policies, including all the covert operations and regime change operations that America always finds itself involved in. We cannot sit here and discuss how great America is, while the US government is stealing close 70,000 barrels of oil a day in Syria (which is 80% of their daily oil production), or while our government funds the genocide in GAZA...
