Wow! that was a cool demonstration. I was wondering how that old marrow smelled. From my experience with it, not too good, phew! Excellent idea to make those bone sliders to straighten your arrowshafts. I used to gather mine years ago and tie them in a tight bundle and let them dry, they seemed to straighten themselves somewhat and then did a little heating and bending when I needed one. I love the location you shot this video at, thanks for sharing your skills here with all of us!

Hehe! Well, it was supposed to be aged just right....but I see I prematurely extracted it..Most of it didn't smell at least...lol...This is great hearing about your arrow making, Paleoman. You are describing how a lot of folk like to do it. Maybe you could talk a little about some of your arrow work sometime. I just thought that was the coolest little spot. under that fallen willow. the trunk was keeping the rain off my head and the fire heated things up well. Felt real homey too! first time I've seen it done with bone seems like a good technique . It looks like your really enjoying the day and your spot in the woods . super cool fire kit and tinder probably the way the older folks would have done it in your area. thanks again Ben keep the videos coming

Thanks, Mike, good to hear from you. It's a tool that has it's place in certain scenarios. I like to use it at the ends where I need more leverage and don't want to scald my fingers. I do most of my straightening with my fingers and over my knee. I just thought that was the neatest little spot and it really felt like home real quick! Hey, Kowboy! That is a cool thought. Maybe he just liked burning his fingers too. I have straightened a lot of arrows by hand and over my knee and found that this little tool can really protect your fingers from getting scalded after hours of straightening. I don't use it a lot, mostly as I get out to the tips and need a little more leverage.Great hearing from you and thanks for the cool comment!....Ben

Man I can smell that bone cheese from here. Aged 2 years, that must be some of that vintage 2017 stuff, haha! Was that some yucca material there in your bow drill set up? It sure looked familiar. Glad things are cooling off for you up there. We’ve finally started getting some decent cool fronts down this way. See if I can’t get out there and get myself back on the tube. Hope to see some of those arrows in action this deer season. Take care Ben!!

Haha.... I misjudged the aging process a little bit. Most of that cheese was just right but as I got the the heart of that bone....oh well, wasn't too bad. Hey, you saw that right....That was indeed one of the yucca sets you were kind enough to send me. Really works fantastic, too! Good ole Yucca...it's a awesome plant! what will you use the marrow for? a source of grease?i cant imagine its still edible

Have you tried heating the entire shaft and rolling it on flat surface? I feel like it could make the Arrow almost Dowel straight.

Hey, sorry I’m just seeing this, usually my test at the end is rolling it on a flat surface if it rolls really smooth, you know you have it really straight but no I’ve never tried rolling it straight under heat. I have heated the entire arrow shaft to temper the shafts, though, thanks for the cool comment. Take care.
