    Basic recipe: 3 parts infused oil, 1 part mango or shea butter, 1 part beeswax. SO if making 16 ounces it would be 12 ounces herb infused oil, 2 ounces beeswax, 2 ounces mango or shea butter. Add essential oils of choice

    Wait. Shouldn't it be like this: ? 3 parts infused oil, 1 part mango or shea butter, 1 part beeswax = 6 (not 12) ounces herb infused oil, 2 ounces beeswax, 2 ounces mango or shea butter.

    Heidi- I just started my second plantain salve. I foraged 100 broadleaf plantain and dried them on a rack in my garden. I whizzed them up in a smoothie maker. I bought a new mason jar. I bought 4 bottles of avocado oil. I put the dry plantain in the jar, and added 3 bottles of avocado oil. I'll leave it for 2 months to infuse. I'll then sieve the contents of the jar. I'll use coconut oil and beeswax to make the salve.

    Heidi, last year I made a healing salve, based on what you already had on your channel, and made it specifically for my chickies--- I use it on any wounds or bald spots that they have (for sunburn, their combs, etc.)---it works like a champ! I really believe in the natural healing wonders of what's in the back yard and what a person can make from flowers, herbs, etc. I have learned a lot from you and really appreciate your videos--my hubby loves it when he sees Patrick make something on the channel or when he speaks up too! Blessings from Dawn @ Rich & Dawn in MN :)

I don't know where you store all that knowledge. But I am surely glad to have the opportunity to have access to your channel!! I am not working right now. My husband still working. But, we are always looking for ways to boost our immune system. And eating healthier no white flour no white sugar no pork no processed foods on and on I could go on about what I have cut out. But you are helping me to understand the herbs better. Thank you Heidi, I wish I could have come across your channel when you started it. But I think that God is a timely God! May he be with you in all your heart's desires and meet you at all your points of needs!

    Even making my own, I still love to watch other people make salves, etc. Like you I want my oil super strong, which means I plan ahead. I infuse my oils and after I strain them I do a double infusion by adding more herbs to that infused oil and infuse it again. I love bee's wax to stiffen it up. To finish it off I have a bowl of ice water ready. I set my pan of infused oils and melted bee's wax in the cold pan and immediately whisk it like crazy. It makes it fluffy, lighter and creamier. Keep up the good work. I so look forward to your videos. I learn something every single time ☺️

    As a general rule, the orange oils are not phototoxic, grapefruit, lemon, lime, and bitter orange are (though they can sometimes be used super-diluted). There are a few noncitrus oils that are phototoxic; a reliable company will have the information in the product description

    Sweet orange/wild orange,mandarin,tangerine,lemongrass (not a citrus though), steam distilled lime and lemon oils are not phototoxic.Some even argue about grapefruit.On the other hand, steam distilled sweet orange,lime,lemon,bergamot and bitter orange are.Same with other essential oils. "It takes 24 times as much grapefruit essential oil to be as phototoxic as 1 drop of bergamot. Here’s a list of the maximum number of drops per ounce of carrier oil before each of these essential oils will cause a phototoxic reaction: bergamot 1 drop cold-pressed lime 4 drops bitter orange 8 drops cold-pressed lemon 12 drops grapefruit 24 drops"

How much more beeswax should I use to help prevent this from occurring? Thanks for all of the great information.

    I cannot be certain on that but just start small, such as an extra tsp. See how that does. If it still melts at room temp, melt it all down again with another tsp and just go from there. It does not take much to suddenly change it from soft to hard.

    Can you add essential oil in the calendula oil? I made me some salve and added lavender oil, I wonder if I can do that to just the calendula oil. I would like to use it all over the body. Thank you!

  • @RainCountryHomestead

    @RainCountryHomestead

    3 жыл бұрын

    Yes but as you can see in this video, I do not add the essential oils to the infused oil while it is infusing, only after I have strained it and am using it in a blend. I do this for a couple of reasons. One being that one will lose some of that essential oil when straining out the herbs and the other being that you may not want the whole amount of infused oil to have that particular essential oil in it. For example, I have a specific infused oil I use for the skin cream I use on my face, hands, etc..and also in my lip balm. Since I sell three different "scents" of skin cream and many different flavors of lip balm, the proper essential oil will only be added to each individual batch. Thus, it is best to keep the infused oil plain until you are blending it with other fats for making whatever it is you plan to make with it

    Adding a liquid like that to fats and oils is tricky because fat and water do not mix but it can work with emulsification which is a messy process that requires a blender. I hate it myself so I am one would would apply the colloidal silver first then the salve over the top. Much easier and less mess

    Yes, you can use the same pot. Since the beeswax is mixed with the other fats, it is easy clean up with hot water and soap. If it wasn't easy, that would mean there is too much beeswax and the final product would be unspreadable

    What do you recommend for toe nail fungus ?

  • @RainCountryHomestead

    @RainCountryHomestead

    2 жыл бұрын

    Toe nail fungus is very difficult to cure. Some people have great success with topical applications one of these essential oils: oregano, thyme, clove, tea tree. A paste of benonite clay applied twice daily, allowed to dry then washed off can be helfpul. Soaking in straight vinegar (any kind) has also helped some. Another one that is popular and works for a few is using Vicks Vapo rub but the thing is that it is the thyme and eucalyptus oils in the rub that make it effective. Keep in mind though, fungus goes far deeper than just the surface so while these methods have helped some, they do not work for everyone and it may require a cleanse from the inside out
