My biggest hair mistake was flat ironing my hair everyday. And i mean every single day in high school. I would touch up my ends every morning cause the straight look was definitely in. My mom warned me but of course i didn’t listen cause i didnt want puffy hair. My hair went from the middle of my back to my shoulders to my chin in months. Then i decided to go natural cause i was bald headed😂😩😩😩

The condition of my hair is better now. I started to consume more protein and using various oils as explained in some videos.
Three times? In a month?? I'm surprised you had any hair left. But when you know better you do better. Your hair is beautiful!
My friend gave me a tip to have a guy cut your hair. Cause sometimes hair envy is real. And I’ve been able to retain length through my cuts

People who destroy others' hair out of jealousy end up bald headed on god😓🙏
My first year natural was trial and error with so many errors - following someone else’s hair routine and expecting the same results, not moisturizing my hair when needed, following type 3 gurus when I’m type 4 and couldn’t understand why my hair looked different when I did the same thing. CRAZY stuff but thankfully I figured it out. Education and learning what your hair needs is the key to happy natural hair.

1. Not using shampoo (the early 2000 curly girl madness. 2. Not using protein. 3. Not using enough products when conditioning, detangling and wash and gos. 4. Blonde highlights (1990s) 5. Not using a swimmers shampoo after swimming.

Yes, not using protein or consuming enough protein is my biggest mistake. I talked about this in a video.
Not moisturizing properly
My hair texture is completely different than what I thought when I was first natural. I literally thought I had no curl patter, but I’m 3c. I guess it was dry Because it was always frizzy. Complete different with correct moisture levels.

@al3826

@@Xanthe79 It will take time for your hair to adjust. After 6 months to a year you will notice a change in moisture and curl pattern texture etc. 😊 Product use is trial and error. Products that worked when I first went natural don't work for me now. Don't turn into a product junkie like I did. One really bomb affordable product you can try is ORS Olive Oil Moisturizing Hair Lotion with Castor Oil. It's affordable but works really well. My hair is all mixed up but mostly type 4. Goodluck.

My hair start growing and improving when I stop going to the salon.nobody but me touch my hair
I wash my hair every two weeks i would not oil my hair or my scalp. I didn't trim my ends, condition or deep condition. I've been natural for 10 years, my hair should be longer. Now I've been taking care of my hair in the last 2 years. I wash every week I don't condition but I deep condition with hot oil treatment weekly. I oil my ends daily and scalp daily. I'm high porosity with medium density and I think I'm about 4a/4b.
1: Retwisting my hair every night. Not only was that setting me up for product build-up(esp since these products were hella thick), but I was also manipulating it too much. 2: Using thick products. Even though my hair is coily, I found that light creams and gels work wonders for my hair. Took me so long to realize since I assumed that having type 4 hair meant that I NEEDED thick products. It forced me to see that what works for someone else may not work for me and I needed to take into account how thick my own hair was.
@rachelm.3173

I feel you with this comment 🙌 I'm type 4 and I had to learn most products that work for a ton of kinky coily's on KZread like the eco styler and wetline extreme gels are a hell no for me. Natural custards and jelly's are the only way I can get a successful wash and go.

When I first went natural a mistake I made was pulling my hair and BRAIN back with tight headbands. I wanted a puff so bad loll!! Hair started to thin around the edges smh.. Another major mistake I make is dying my hair. I would promise myself that I wouldn't do it anymore but I'm hardheaded loll! Using box dyes eats my hair up, no matter how well I take care of it. Trying my best to not buy one and just get something like the hair paint wax instead lol.. great video! ❤❤
One mistake I made was treating my longer hair like I did when it was shorter. Which stunned my growth.
@NaturalReign
5 жыл бұрын
I definitely understand that girl! It’s a whole different process when your hair starts to grow out!
Realized washing my hair with only sulfate-free shampoo caused my scalp to itch terribly. The itching stopped as soon as I started using shampoo with sulfates. Now I shampoo with a clarifying sulfate shampoo followed by a sulfate-free moisturizing shampoo. My scalp never felt better!
I found the main thing for me is moisturization and washing my hair. Honestly my hair just grows. As time goes by i have length and people ask but i have no special routine or like avoiding products or any of that. I do avoid excessive heat and deep condition often. I do use the two step protein treatment maybe once a month or even two or three months. Thats it.
Every 2 weeks? Girrrrrrl I used to flat iron my hair literally every WEEK.
My biggest mistake and I'm completely ashamed was washing my hair whenever my style came out which was after 3 months🤢. I have been saved now so I shampoo every single week and also cowash midweek. I want to see a picture of your hair blonde.

1: I just greased my scalp & didn't know anything about moisturizing my actual hair 2: I didn't cleanse my hair properly 3: I didn't deep condition at all mostly because I didn't know what that was during that time

Girl i agree 100% i had no clue what protein treatments were. But you live and you learn. I love protein treatments now, however, ive never straightened my hair or used heat, other than the cool air setting on a blow dryer.
I trim my hair too much too
Loved it! Very helpful and straight to the point. Thank you!
I’ve made soooooo many mistakes during my journey lol but two that come to mind are not trimming when I need to (or at all lol) and putting so much oil on my hair that it was dripping in my face and breaking my skin out and I thought it was ok 🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️
My first few years of being natural I use to straighten my hair every 2 weeks in the colder months. When I stopped doing that I finally was able to grow my hair to mid-back length.
Thank you for giving out the site for the hair. I'm at that first where I have to stop going and getting it blow dry and flat iron. Just working on getting my curls back. Thanks for sharing
I needed to hear this cause I was about to go crazy on a new hair color 🤣
This video was very, very helpful...One of the best I've seen! Thank you for sharing!!! Please continue to educate us😊
Girl everything you said about the straightening , I felt!
My mistake is going to a traditional hair stylist that doesn't have natural hair clients. My other mistakes were not moisturizing enough and not applying products properly. Great video, Jaelen!
My biggest mistake was not getting my hair the moisture it needs I was listening to what other ppl said and my hair was DRY 😫 I didn’t even know I really had curls
Just recently passed the one year mark of no heat! YAY! I'm guilty of not deep conditioning and not moisturizing consistently.
Girl, I have been eight years natural an made mistakes in the past five years 😂 with heat damage an not deep conditioning in the past. Now my hair is really flourishing an healthy. I had a similar straightening schedule too in my past every wash day lol 😂 gosh I didn't do a big chop but I had to cut my hair. I learned alot from those past five years. This video was very helpful knowing my hair is finally at a good state an that my curls are popping now! 😁 This was an inspiring video. Thanks for letting us know what we should avoid doing to our hair.
Thanks for the tips! Your hair is gorgeous!
ripping through hair with combs , im on a finger detangle journey. let my mom do my hair (box braids) , she combs through my hair with a fine tooth comb and pulls knots apart. not protective style in between getting braids. i’d wear puffs all the time, unstretched because i got lazy at twisting at night, KNOTS FOR DAYS. seal hair with oils. oils dont do shit , i use hair grease now🤷🏾♀️ best decision ever.

I’m twelve and cut my hair in January due to having my hair flat-ironed. I begged my mom to get one because I was the only black girl in my class. I would over iron my hair and I thought that my curly- straight hair was a curl pattern. After cutting my hair its now in the awkward length stage, and before it was shoulder length. Every natural needs this video I swear! I think we all make these common mistakes when we are uneducated about our hair
The ponytail holders and flat ironing my hair was definitely it for me but I been keeping my hair in braids and protective styles for a couple years now and making sure its healthy and clean and sis my hair is Growing 😊😊😊
Sleep without protection...lmao! Good one Jae :)
i used to straighten my hair every sunday 😬 straightened my hair for the first time in almost a year back in october for shits and giggles but i just bought a wig to satisfy that inner need for straight hair. but my curls are doing so well now 🥺💗
1. using a sulfate free shampoo even while it was drying my hair out something bad. finally switched to sulfate shampoo and my hair is thriving. 2. not watering down my thicker products so my low porosity hair could absorb it better
Not making my own oil, deep conditioners, and protein treatments as well as aloe Vera. I tried store ones but they never work like when I make my own

I did it as well! Bleached my hair platinum blonde with boxed dye and splat lighten bleach and to add a cherry on top I dye it pink, purple, blue and green over and over again. I super glad that I still have hair on my head
1.) Trimming my hair too often (it’s an obsession😫). 2.) Shampooing too often, I get product build up really easily (please recommend products that don’t build up!)
Awesome af!
Mine was trying to use the cheap products...... I have now switched over to Camille Rose for naturals and my hair loves it........I plan on doing a follow me with my hair journey soon......
My hair is so undefined at the roots! The ends will curl if I brush through my hair with conditioner but the roots (or the top 3/4 of the strand) will not clump or curl for the life of me! I decided to bring my problems hair because I was hoping there were other (extremely) High porosity type 4 girls with tips. Thanks!
In all honesty this week was my since I've been natural (3yrs) wore my hair curly (1st attempt at a wash n go) and everyone loved it but me. I salute you curly girls y'all the real MVP's. I'm a naturally straight kind of girl
This was so helpful like for real now I think I can handle my natural hair.
I get scissor happy I feel like that's the reason why my hair it's not where I feel like it should be. I got a trim my second year of being natural that was so bad that I literally damn near start it over somebody else did it for me. And I lied to lady who trim my hair this time around and she said I had done a really good job and I honestly in about 7 months but I told her having three. That showed me after her doing a thorough cut that I don't have to trim my hair as much.
Gurl yaaasss pantyhose is life! I thought I was the only one with that quirk!

Wxvyy_L0wkey yes boo! I cried so hard, I will never strengthen my hair again Never
Im a dye-head. I used to dye my hair and then be lazy in my early 20’s.Now that I’m older I’m not so lazy and I don’t experiment with other people’s routines outside of techniques. It’s hard to keep up with washing and deep conditioning/protein treatments each week but my hair is flourishing now. Another mistake I did was not know my porosity I assumed I was low and would deep condition for hours and then wonder why it was breaking. I typically stick to the directions now and at best I may add a additional 10 mins but if I do more my hair is very mushy.
How do you keep it so healthy despite all the dyeing?
Hey honey , do you cut your own ends? I used to always go get my ends cut but the last time I cut my ends , I did it myself because I feel like stylists cut too much off. Could you possible make a video & list the steps & methods of cutting your own ends?! ❤️ THANK YOU!
My hair mistake was rice water!!!!! I got protein overload!!
My biggest mistake that I still make is not sleeping with a bonnet I was experiencing some breakage in the back of my head and I had no idea why until this video Btw love your channel I'm am struggling to embrace my curls so thanks love you
I feel so green, tell me about the pantyhose ponytail holder please. I've read all the comments and I have literally made every mistake listed. I'm on the healthy hair track now though thanks in great part to you and a few other influencers.
Everything! Just everything I made a mistake and I still feel like my hair is just a mess. I don’t know what to do at this point. I will keep trying though.
A natural hair mistake I (not really me but my mom) made was perming my hair and now I'm in the process of becoming natural and I'm 5 months in
