ABOUT Dr. Katie Woodley - The Natural Pet Doctor
=====
Dr. Katie is a small animal integrative veterinarian who developed a passion for natural medicine while I was living in New Zealand. Her vet career was lucky enough to begin in the beautiful country of New Zealand. She was able to see how living off the land by growing our own vegetables and raising our own animals was the way to live the healthiest versions of ourselves. Her pets were lucky to have lots of open space to run around in and were always at the beach or the river.
When they moved back to the States five years ago, her husband, unfortunately, developed an autoimmune disease. As they researched natural medicine options for him to avoid the horrible side effects of the treatment options his doctors were providing him, Dr. Katie realized that she was doing a disservice to her animal patients by not offering these holistic options to them. She began down the integrative medicine route and has never been happier. Through nutrition, acupuncture, herbal medicine, essential oils, and supplements, every animal can achieve optimal health or feel their best even when they have a chronic illness or disease like cancer. She currently has a certification in acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine and is continuously learning about the other natural modalities and growing her knowledge base every day!
She started this business to provide pet parents with more resources for natural medicine advice and care because we need to increase awareness of how amazing natural medicine truly is! Dr. Katie's mission is to ensure that all pet parents have access to herbal medicine, supplementation, and nutritional advice throughout their pet's lifetime. One of her greatest joys is the opportunity to collaborate with both pet parents and other veterinary professionals to ensure access to all available integrative options for pet health care.

Our vet said it is safe for our half-persian to get Frontline flea application as well as a flea/tick tablet at the same time it wont have side-effects. A few years later our beautiful cat started getting seizures and died of kidney/heart failure. It was a slow and agonizing death I have lost any trust in doctors and vets because of that. I love that Dr. Katie cares enough to provide natural alternatives - she is a REAL vet.

My tiny dog had a terrible reaction to the Lyme vaccine. She started vomiting foam for 2 hours straight. My vet wouldn't acknowledge it was a reaction because it happened 2 days later. She wanted to give my dog the Lepto shot that same day, but I told her I would prefer to split them up. My dog wasn't right for at least a couple months afterwards, very lethargic all the time. Until I gave her homeopathic Thuja, and she finally recovered. That was her last vaccine, we never went back for the Lepto.

VERY INFORMATIVE! thank you so much for posting this! I just had to take my best buddy of 13 years for her last ride to the vet on 1/6/22 . She was diagnosed with advanced stage lymphoma. I firmly believe that this was in a large part due to Sorresto collars which was making her vomit then her vet prescribed sympirica. I feel so guilty now that I thought I was doing what was best for her. I have been doing some research. I have changed my other 2 dogs diet and will never again use conventional flea and tick treatments!! I have since fired my vet and found another one that specializes in natural medicine.

So sorry for the loss of your buddy♥️. I lost my precious toy fox terrier, Lila, who was only 9 years old. My vet’s office recommended the Sorresto collar for her and she had a seizure in the middle of the night that required me to drive 30 miles, with her screaming the entire way, to an emergency vet. They stabilized her and sent her home the next day. $1,300 for that visit. She never fully recovered; was walking into walls and just falling down. She had a second seizure 3 days later and was euthanized at my vet’s office. NONE of those involved with her care wanted to hear about that flea collar and denied any possibility of it being the cause. I told a friend what had transpired and he said their cat had the same thing happen about 2 weeks after they put a Sorresto collar on her!

When I go horseback riding and the Deer Flies, Black Flies, Gnats and mosquitoes are terrible, I look for or bring with freshly picked Catnip plants! I crush up and mangle the whole plant in my hands then wipe the plant and my hands all over my horses heads and special areas where these bugs love to bite! Chest, groin, under jaws and even myself! When I do THIS to protect my barn cats, you have to do it FAST because they get SO HIGH and playful, they can get crazed and wild! I've been accidentally bitten, so go fast on cats! If you put it on dogs...cats will love them but the flying, biting pests leave them alone. Catnip grows wild and really fast! Try transplanting some in your gardens, too!

I mix 5 table spoons of Castile soap, in a half gallon bottle, 3 cups of distilled water, 6 drops of lavender, 6 drops of lemon grass , 6 drops of cedar oil , all the oils are essential oils. And if your puppy has dry skin, one of mine does. I make oatmeal milk, I take 1/3 cup of oatmeal, and 2 cups of distilled water. In a pot, add the oatmeal, heat it on a low temperature for about 15 to 20 minutes. Don't let it boil. You just want to get it warm. Then I strain it with cheesecloth. My dog developed neurological problems following use of seresto collars. It took us 3YEARS to work out what the problem was. I wrote to Bayer and they replied that it was obvious the dog wasn't used to a collar, or that it was put on too tightly. Laughable I kept a diary and wrote again, asking how they explained the symptoms. They couldn't, and eventually they gave us compensation - a very small amount though. These big pharma companies are too big to sue. All I really wanted was an apology and a recognition that the collar was at fault.

@@thenaturalpetdoctor I didn't realise just how many things we can do to support our dog's health and immune system, or the methods we can use to deter parasites without having to give him pesticides. I also wasn't aware of how effective catnip essential oil can apparently be for deterring mosquitoes, ticks, and fleas. I made Dr Karen Becker's repellent spray and am especially pleased that cedarwood essential oil can calm our dog *and* deter ticks and fleas. We live in a high-risk area for ticks, so vigilantly checking is still #1.

Just found your channel recently. It is wonderful. I found four feral kittens and a young mother living behind a carport at my job site. I started helping them out. But the mother abandoned the kittens far too early for them to survive so my wife and I made the decision to adopt them. We already have four rescue cats and on top of that these cats are feral so they cannot be handled or around other animals. Therefore I built a massive outdoor fenced in structure the entire length of my house with a ramp that leads down into my basement that I basically turned into the forest where I found them. I insulated the floor and then brought all of the leaves and shelters I made them and sticks and branches. They basically have the same exact life with just less real estate and no dangers. My question is this. I want to protect them as much as I can from Heartworms as we live in Michigan and it is a viable threat. how do I do that with cats that I cannot touch or handle? I cannot spray in all natural flea preventative on them because they won't let me near them. Any suggestions? Please help.

I do lightly cooked meat and or raw. The cooked I have mixed in some garlic and or AC Vinegar and they haven't picked up any ticks since. I didn't think any thing of it until I found a tick crawling up my leg. They were sticking their faces in foliage in the woods where they typically have picked up multiple ticks. I also bath them with spearmint natural soap. I also stopped vaccines last year since my boy had a very bad reaction to one of the mixed vaccines. I was told they have had issues with it in the past with bad reactions to death. I was pissed because there was no informed disclosure on it. The reaction was fairly quick as he woke me up whining in the middle of the night of the day he got the vax. He couldn't walk and was in great pain. His chest and arm was extremely swollen. I thought he was going to die. I'm calm in these situations but this boy means a lot to me so I was a bit frantic, out of character. Within a month he had a lump appear on his chest. Went back and they said it's a lipoma and it wasn't from the vax reaction. I'm not convinced it wasn't caused by the toxic vax since he's 5 and we eat healthy as well as very active. We haven't been back since.

However, the cats that were fed kibble by locals were unhealthy and infested with fleas. So there you go feed your animals home made food and they will last a long time hopefully.

And you have to crush it and let it sit for 10-15 minutes, so that the allicin (the beneficial component of garlic) gets activated. If you eat garlic immediately, without exposure to air, it’s basically useless, except to flavor your dishes. The allicin is what makes garlic a super food, and allicin needs air to become super 😉.

Excellent info. Thank you so much. You would likely find lectures by Barbara O'Neill (a series called From Sickness to Health), very interesting. She also describes causes of disease from a natural perspective. This is for humans but I think excellent principles for all natural life. In the 1800's, a writer called Ellen G. White wrote: Drugs never cure disease, they simply change the form and location of the disease. I do believe these words still hold true in many cases. Her books are excellent for crazy insights into holistic health, like her book: Ministry of Healing, completed in 1905 or somewhere there. She had incredible wisdom regarding true causes of disease and using the laws of nature to support health.

Thank you so much! My husband I go hiking a lot. And I love the spray bottle remedy and the T-shirt idea. And everything else! I've been following Doctor Karen Becker and Rodney Habib for about 3 years now! They're awesome and so are you! 🥰💯🐶🐶🐶 We have 3 corgis; mom, son and daughter.

My vet practices holistic medicine as well as regular and we are on the same page. Our border collie has a Max and Molly Soundsheild for ticks and fleas. I have been giving her the drops down the back every other month but strongly considering not doing that any more. She eats what we eat for supper like the farmers used to do with their dogs plus a very high quality kibble mixed in. She is not vaxed to the hilt, just distemper, parvo and rabies given separately a month apart. I use a diy mosquito/tick spray with cedar, lemon and other EO's that I use on her head and nose, down her back. I can't get near her with a comb and she won't let me near her toes or under her arms or legs. That's an issue.

I've been rubbing those ingredients into a bit of olive oil, (glass bottles) rub it through my hands, and wipe my dogs underside and inside legs. And groin. I'll rub his coat. No spray bottle , he hates it. Then I'll comb him through when we have rub pet time. He's 13, I got her m 7 months ago when he was too sick for parents to care for 24/7. He was a nipper, biter growler.. but for that 6 weeks depended on me even to pee and poop. Never had pets before, but knew I didn't want conventional so did what if do for me. He even lets me trim his nails. If he got a few fleas, he is more likely to let me do it, because he had them when sick and had paralyse so couldn't even scratch. So I warmed water and olive oil and sat on a towel just massaging it in little by little. Fleas couldn't move and I combed them out. Hehis a tiny Chihuahua. But was quite defensive. Now , with no commercial dog food, and natural treatments. Hey s like a puppy/ cat/ deer.. lol A different dog ..

This dog peed "jello" a bit before he got sick. After a monthly drop. We still dont know what it was. Perhaps Parvo. It's a mystery disease they said killing many cats and small dogs. 3 vets wanted to put him down. But he kept eating. And watering. And pooping and peeing. I had to hold him to do and spoon feed. But I wouldn't want to "go" either if I was eating filet mignon and sirloin everyday. ( Among other foods. Pumpkin, squash, oregano, garlic, low heat wilted spinache, carrots, banana, blueberry honey vinegar ACV w/mother. White an wild rice bits I soaked to capacity in bone broth. Chicken, pork loin. Raw ground Liver, I've added small dog kibble back, but it's soaked in bone broth each night for next day.

I have also been told by a veterinarian not to use peppermint essential oil on them also neem oil is what we get for our trees to spray them to keep the bugs off so I can understand some of that but is that going to be harmful in the long run and what's the difference between the time we buy to spray on the trees and bushes then the one that we get for the the dogs

I used a flea collar on my dogs due to ticks. One of my dogs was fine, and the other one ended up having severe seizures and we had to put her to sleep. The seizures started about four weeks after we started using the collars. She started doing things in an opposite way, like if you went to hand her a treat, she would smell it, but instead of leaning forward to get the treat, she would lean backwards and stretch her neck to try and grab the treat.

Please ensure that DE is not administered in such a way that your pets may inhale - or yourself - due to its silica content. Thus for their food always mix with a sml amount of liquid or an oil such as coconut, hemp or E.V. Olive Oil; and exercise great care when/if applying to their coats.
