Omega-3 Fatty Acids: Omega-3 fatty acids, particularly eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), are essential for brain health. DHA is a major structural component of the cerebral cortex, the part of the brain responsible for memory, language, creativity, emotion, and attention.
Regular intake of omega-3s can help protect against age-related brain decline and may reduce the risk of Alzheimer's disease. Moreover, omega-3s have anti-inflammatory properties that might mitigate the effects of stress and depression on the brain.
Water: The brain is about 75% water, so it's no surprise that hydration is crucial for cognitive functions. Dehydration can impair attention, long-term and short-term memory, and decision-making abilities.
By ensuring adequate water intake, one can support overall cognitive health, improve concentration, and enhance mood.
Phosphatidylserine: This is a phospholipid that covers and protects the cells in your brain and carries messages between them. It plays a vital role in cognitive function, and its supplementation has been linked to improved memory, concentration, and mood.
As we age, levels of phosphatidylserine in the brain can decrease, so supplementation might be particularly beneficial for the elderly.
5-HTP (5-Hydroxytryptophan): 5-HTP is a precursor to serotonin, a neurotransmitter that plays a pivotal role in mood regulation. It is believed that 5-HTP supplementation can improve mood, reduce anxiety, and aid in sleep by increasing serotonin levels in the brain.
This can be especially beneficial for those with conditions characterized by low serotonin levels.
Acetyl-L-Carnitine: This is an amino acid that is naturally produced in the body and plays a vital role in energy production. For the brain, Acetyl-L-Carnitine helps in the production of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, which is essential for memory and learning.
Studies have suggested that this compound might be beneficial in addressing age-related memory loss and even symptoms of Alzheimer's disease.
Rhodiola Rosea: A traditional adaptogenic herb, Rhodiola Rosea has been used for centuries to combat fatigue and improve stamina. For the brain, it offers neuroprotective benefits.
It is believed to help improve mood by balancing neurotransmitters in the brain, reduce fatigue, and improve focus, especially during periods of stress.
In conclusion, each of these substances offers unique benefits to the brain, ranging from improved mood and focus to enhanced memory and neuroprotection.
It's always essential, however, to consult with a healthcare professional before starting any supplementation, especially to ensure there are no interactions or contraindications with current medications or health conditions.

I became vegan about 16 months ago. Dropping all dairy and coconut oil not only cut my cholesterol in half, I noticed that my sleep and digestion improved. My recall seems to have improved this year (along with other health markers). I miss cheese, butter and eggs, but nonetheless, for me, my improved health has made this change a positive.

Hi Ron. I am new to your page and I just saw this video. You mentioned that you are also allergic to fish, but that you take Omega-3 in pill form. The companies I've checked with tell me they use fish oils in making their pills. My doctor tells me not to risk it. However, if you've found a pill that gives the Omega-3 sans the fish oil, I'm game. Right now I take 4-tablespoons of Chia seeds/day either in my smoothie or cereal. Please tell me the name of the product you use. And thank you for this video.
