When I feel anxious or depressed, I always watch this video and I can sleep with happiness. I love everything about this video. She is indeed a real musician and great woman. I’ll always thank her for creating those great music and lives.
This woman is just amazing. I think she is like what we'll all be when we do a lot more evolving.

That is a good thought. She is really wonderful.
Natalie Merchant seems to be the most authentic person and seemingly completely at peace with her place in the world
Natalie Merchant, you are an angel. What a wonderful idea. Beautifully executed. Absolutely brilliant.
This is great. I love what she did with The Janitor's Boy. I can just hear that being sung in a 1920s speakeasy!
This is such a beautiful video that demonstrates both her infinite compassion, respect and reverence for those that have passed as well as her hilarious sense of humor in getting the crowd to "Curb Their Enthusiasm" so to speak. (Larry David, another genius performer BTW) My blood nearly froze also when she mentioned she had put to music Mr. Gerad Manley Hopkins poetry to music just as he desired 130 years previous when it was written. For this and numerous other reasons I am honoring her legacy by naming my daughter due this July "Natalie Anne". (Yes that is Natalie and I in my caption, April 8th, 1999 SLC, UT. It only took another 15 years to get her to sign the photo.)

BEAUTIFUL comment, I hope your daughter is happy and healthy. ❤
Her stage presence is spectacular. Love this woman!
No matter how I feel, Nathalie Merchants music always fits. She's brilliant.
This video has made me fall in love with Ms. Merchant! I absolutely ADORE all of her pieces here, and how much life she brings to these old works. Absolutely amazing! I just can't stop listening :D
Absolutely iconic. I have loved her distinctly beautiful voice and personality since I was in high school (1993). She still lived only a short distance away, in Jamestown, NY. Her parents still live there and the parents of a friend of mine are her next door neighbors. What a small world. I would love to meet her but how awkward would that be? Oh, Natalie, the people you have touched, near and far. Waiting in WNY for you!
this is just so beautiful, and appreciated. what a blessing that we have natalie merchant.
Spectacular it gave me goosebumps to realize the words she's singing are so old yet still valid and beautiful. Brava for being so emotionally in tune to those forgotten by most and giving them back there voice in such a heartbreaking way.
Am I the only one mesmerized in pure awe about how this woman owns the stage? Just a few moves and glances, mixing speech and songs with such elegance and command...I have to see this performance once a year at least.
She's got one of those voices I could listen to read the phone book and just have to close my eyes and feel it.
after many years, listening this one again and again, gives me a good calm joy. some old tedtalks are so good it is worth repeat listening again and again. have heard this more than 20 times over the years.
For those who said she was pretentious, let me respond with this: As an artist, you have to respect and honor your work before anyone else does. Natalie is successful and she is one of the best writers and singers of our time. For her to honor her own work is not pretentious, but instead confident in her ability to reach to those of us who are willing to accept, which by past precedent, has been in the millions. Love this performance and this record.

Creo que la voz de Natalie simplemente es perfecta. Cuando toma las emciones en armonía... transporta!!! Gracias Natalie por aquellos minutos de vuelo, gracias!!!
Chillingly beautiful.
She had the audience in the palm of her hand with Thank You. Wow.
Always one of my favorites, Natalie, but this just shows so well her style, intelligence, musicality and grace. So smart, and so thrilled and involved with life...
This is nothing short of amazing! Listened to Leave Your Sleep countless times, but seeing Natalie perform them with some of the back stories is pure gold!. Thanks for this.
Went to go see her in berekley two weeks ago. Let me tell you that it was one of the very best shows I have ever seen of hers. at first she seemed slightly nervous not much talking in between songs. But after a couple of songs oh my god she was beyond words. She came out for two or three times on time she was out there for 30 plus mins. Signing old stuff with a new twist to it, telling funny stories. The show was over 3 hours and it was amazing I can' t even tell you how good it was.

How I love and admire Natalie!!! Thank you!
Poetry works so well with music as the structure is so balanced, and all it took was a magical voice like Natalie to bring them to life.

I heard this woman for the first time, 23 years ago ... and my life has been better ever since. THANK YOU NATALIE!
Glad someone pointed this link, its amazing such a beautifull songs.
I love it. I think it's gentle and appropriate in every sense and feeling. Pleasing to say the least. I am grateful to be reminded of these poems in such an original way and I commend the artists! To say it's beautiful is not doing it justice!
This is why she left 10,000 maniacs. She has a lot to say and she loves to write and create and express herself on a solo basis. Love love love her!!❤️ Always will!
Poetry is certainly underrated among us.
the music brings the lyrics to life even more...her voice is amazng...
True...Maratel l946....you can never get her out...I like all her songs.... find myself listening a lot to "If No One Marries Me," Sweet and a Lullaby," and never get tired of the "The janitor's Boy." Be well.....
Still enchanting...................do people still get carried away by her lyrics (I see most comments are made 5 years ago)
I am late to the party but this is a timeless piece by a creative genius

@ G 8 Geniuses plural, at least 12 not counting Natalie. She did a beautiful job setting the poems to music but she didn’t write them.
Natalie, an Angel walking amongst us. We are blessed for her amazing talent and kind humanity.
Absolutely beautiful.
This is so awesome.

I love the first song
echoes in my soul
Lovely, this is wonderful.
Beauty....... Thanks for sharing this.
you must come to Portugal, my goodness, my princess
it is amazing and beautiful, and in no way shape or form deserves constructive criticism for to criticize this is truly perfectionism it is as good as we could ever expect a performance to be and to want more without producing it yourself is entirely selfish
Nice idea, well executed. Good choice of poems for singing, it sounds very natural. Her voice is nice and dynamic and the instrumental parts are well composed. Presentation might be a bit on the longside, but still very well done!
So creative and beautiful
Thy will be done - peace, care, consideration, kindness - for the love of all 🙏
Marvelous! Marvelous! Marvelous!
i wish more people my age listened to music like this; it's so moving, and the way she combines music and poetry is beautiful. It's tough living in the generation of justin bieber and gangam style..
Love it. For the NM haters - why did you even bother watching it? She's brilliant. Admit it.
Magnificent!
Amazing . . . .
Very awesome, really enjoyed it.
Still lovin your music and art form 👋
so cool! this makes the literature more related to life!

@Mei-Chen Chen I don’t understand your remark. Literature and life are inseparable. Literature reflects and transcends life.
Fantastic music and video - well done to all concerned - This is my introduction to Natalie
I really enjoyed this. ^^ Thank you for posting!
@Zeldovich All I know is that people write to express themselves; to communicate some deep meaning to others. It takes courage and perseverance and brilliance and they don't do it to float into obscurity after a hundred years. I think that anything that keeps the conversation about their work going would be better than having it forgotten forever. Whether you liked this performance or not, you have to admit that you heard the voices of those long dead, and it had to have stirred something.
Essa mulher é show!
Que, foi o maravilhoso que legendou? Muito obrigado ser! Muito obrigado mesmo!

Realmente, excelente !!!! Agradeço também. Essa cantora é simplesmente perfeita.
Female Michael Stipe Her songwriting and voice are on a level of their own!
@saemj She is clearly comfortably confident in her abilities, but she's far greater than she thinks she is...and everyone needs what she has done with this project.
The couple at 9:15!!!! AWWWWWW!!! :')
Fantastic!
@padraigpurseal I saw her a few hours ago here in New York and loved every minute of the concert . An Irish NM fan living in The Big Apple
Amazing.
@Martel1946 She got in, I just could not shut her out,She drew me in! I truly feel more human! I could not run Thanks to her I got sucked in. I am in Love. I saw her live in Syracuse, N.Y. when she came out with Tigerlily at the Landmark Theater. I first fell I in Love at that concert
this artist is an artist
quieroo su discoooo
I wish I was there
I so admire Natalie Merchant..She is so incredibly talented, beautiful voice, but I have seen her in concert many times and I do wish she would have a little more fun...she seems only serious, which is fine, great, probably a testament to her intellect and her soulfulness, but don't take away all fun away from your audience. Every concert I've been she has admoninished and even abruptly left the stage.
Such a very cool project.
Brought to life for sure, great idea. A good song should have good words, where better to find them than in poetry. Take a note pop producers.
Who can blame the audience for showing their admiration for Natalie's performance?
Here she goes again! The angel of sound, rewiring more minds. Once she gets in there, you'll never get her out again. Just shut it out! Don't listen! If you do, she'll make you more human! Run! ;-)
Estupendo!
¿Pero qué maravilla es esta??
@Ipoonthecasbah 3. Make music which suits the poem. And she did a damn good job.
wow this is good stuff!
i'm glad i get to watch ted on youtube, if i was at the conference and this came on i'd walk out
"You know what? I'll show you how to clap to this song." Ha! So true!
She's crazy, loved it
