I don’t think the interviewers have any idea that the song originally is not hers.

Great song and I like the way she worked to bring it up tempo from the original, it would be nice to see her acknowledge the original writer and performer of this song. Most people assume she wrote this.

Ednaswap has 2 versions. One more grungy and one that's basically identical to Natalie's version.

Yeah, The song I heard by Endaswap is basically the same tempo and arrangement. I'm not sure somebody without experience or musicianship would have "worked" on the song that much(!). Her producers kept it the same, knowing it was thankfully obscure yet a ready-made diamond of a pop-song, which really could make it big when re-recorded for a new market (UK).

One of my fav song from my childhood days.

All the media does is focus on this one hit song, yet Natalie's first album had other great tunes too such as Shiver, which I think she wrote. Plus they ignore the original singer whose version of Torn was more alternative but I liked it as well.

@@harlowdella-bosca6998 Actually "Torn" was written in 1991 by Scott Cutler and Anne Preven with producer Phil Thornalley as a solo song for Preven. Cutler and Preven's band Ednaswap eventually released their recording in 1995.

Great cover of Imbruglia. Listen to Lis Sørensen who first translated the song into Danish in 93 (4 years before Imbruglia came out), and made a top hit in Denmark! It did not reach so much abroad due to language, but was a big hit in Denmark.

I have to say, not everyone can pull off short hair but Natalie is beautiful with short or long hair

No doubt she is a talented singer but her remake doesn't even begin to capture the depth & raw emotion of the original by Edna Swap. She really should make a point of giving credit to Anne Previn & Scott Cutler for writing such a powerful song that launched her career.

Her son deserves a whole album. I have the original copy of Firebird and it's beautiful how the first thing that appears written in the book of the album is "For Max". In her own words, this album is autobiographical. Natalie has always been a great person. In relation to Daniel, she has shown great empathy and compassion for him. She has publicly supported him. I admire that she is like that, because to be honest, it's hard for me to feel compassion for such dysfunctional people. He was very selfish with her. I think that relationship worked as long as her normality was functional for him when he was sick with anorexia and arthritis, but when the Rockstar life and excess came along, her normality was a problem. It's beautiful to see how she prefers to continue her life without grudges. As she said on his podcast, over time she learned to remember that relationship fondly. I think that's what Firebird is about....overcoming a lot of things in her life. Seeing her being a mother is heartwarming. "What It Feels Like" is a beautiful song.

She was 26 when she made torn and she looked like she was 18 years old in that video at best. She's now 48 but she looks 59-60 years old. How the Fvk did she age so much.

Also, As much as I don’t care for Howard Stern, everyone should see Anne Previn’s performance of the song on his show. 🫶🏼
