America was ready. North America, Latin America, and Europe too. Only "Madison Avenue" wasn't ready. My "white" parents loved him and watched his television show religiously. I thought it odd that rhey did not like Louis Armstrong, who I personally found to be equally as engaging as Nat Cole.

Handsome, suave, well dressed and incredibly talented. 👌👍

I remember when I was young, my parents used to play this song at Thanksgiving, and back then, I didn't understand the importance of Nat King Cole until I was 11-years old. Now that I am older and a teenager, I play this song to remember those moments. This is the first song I play on Thanksgiving Day because it reminds me that Christmas is near. Thanks, Mom and Dad for playing this song! This is a very beautiful song and I am so glad that kids today can learn about Nat King Cole through this platform! Nat King Cole was so so talented. His piano playing and singing were done effortlessly. Such a gracious man. He certainly left this world way too soon.

Thanks for this wonderful documentary. Nat and his wife were such beautiful people, inside and out. Nat was a remarkable pianist, amazing singer, naturally funny, and highly intelligent. I love this man so much. Nat's wonderful voice elicits the comforting feel of being wrapped in a warm blanket and drinking hot chocolate. There were so many phenomenal artists in this video: Ella Fitzgerald, Oscar Peterson, Ben Webster, Quincy Jones, Harry Belafonte, Ray Brown (a world-class bassist and also married to Ella Fitzgerald for six years), Eartha Kitt, Sammy Davis, Jr., and more. So much talent for which I remain grateful, as I listen to them regularly.

As great a singer as he was, Nat's variety show was canceled shortly after it first aired because advertisers refused to sponsor the show. What a shame.

When I went away to college, I set my clock radio with tape player to wake me to Nature Boy every morning. I didn't realize he was so young when he died, but I do remember that it broke my heart when I realized I wouldn't hear any new songs from him. I ached for his family knowing what a special man has passed. I was so young when he was on TV and he shaped my life and my feelings throughout the civil rights movement and still today, the injustices burn my soul. I thank him for that and will for the rest of my life. He made me a better person.

@@corriecrazy One of the kids I went to college with, stopped to help a woman on the side of the road with an overheated car. It turned out to be Mrs. Nat King Cole. You often never know the lives you touch but it makes a difference anyway. Thanks for letting me know.

Nat King Cole was so special. Listen to a lot of what was popular pop music in his time then listen to him. He was so elegant, like on another plane of understanding.

My aunt played Mr Nat King Cole’s music on her record player. I was young but I understood the pleasing sounds from that disc of wax. I’d put my ear to the speaker absorbing every drop. RIP, Sir.

I saw him live in London in the 50’s once seen and heard never forgotten. A cliche but oh so true in Nat King Cole’s case a unique truly class act.

My father played Nat King Cole Christmas song every year.

"Mona Lisa" was a popular song when I was born. My father had the record and would sing to me. It's one of my earliest memories. Brings a tear to my eyes every time I hear Nat King Cole singing that lovely song.

In the summer of 1983 I took a yacht cruise on the Aegean Sea. Late one evening I curled up in one of the canvas sails, turned on my walkman and listened to Nat King Cole sing, "Stardust". The sky was so full of stars that night,and I was rather full inside thinking to myself what a privilege to be here in this wonderful part of the world listening to this wonderful singer and song on such a glorious night. Without Nat the experience would not have been half as gratifying. This 18 plus years after his demise, what a legacy he left us -- in so many ways. 5/2020

Had Sam Cooke lived he maybe would have been the greatest of all time. As equally gifted as a producer, prolific song writer, talent scout, and entrepreneur as he was a one of a kind musical vocalist. These two men deserve a first rate film biography.

The year Nat passed , the Ice Capades did a beautiful tribute on ice . I was a young teenager and overwhelmed with having lost this icon.

I love listening to Nat King Cole, his voice was like Velvet, What a Singer!!!

My favorite singer of all time and I was a baby when he died. My Father had the Jet 1965 Memorial Issue. I found it when cleaning up a chest he had with things that were very important to him after he died. I have it and will cherish it always. The only other person that I will put up there with him are Prince, Ella, Whitney and the other Greats.

Autumn Leaves is my favorite. Melts my heart like a glass of wine by an open fire.

Mona Lisa and When I fall in Love were my Mum's favourites. The old gals in the Gin factory used to call for out for my mum to sing Mona Lisa to them when a young woman. We used to say about Nat "A voice as rich and smooth as velvet" been a fan all my life. He was a special person.

Just make you wonder how God can create someone so beautiful. His voice absolutely made him beautiful, but it was also the outside packaging that was beautiful, too. A voice smooth as velvet. Then had a daughter, Natalie, a twin of himself. God sure knows what He's doing when He matches folks up, because you can tell by the fruits they bear.

Incredible documentary on a gifted musical icon. Though my mom was always a fan, I grew to love his music and play it often. Within a two month period of January-February of 65' we lost three of my icons in different genres, Lorraine Hansberry, Nat 'King' Cole and Malcolm X.

Autumn Leaves the most beautiful song IMO of All-time.

Nat King Cole. Even those three words are so right. If I had to chose a greeting to other beings in the Universe it would be his voice I would want them to hear. Liquid , rich, clear and true. Of more worth than the most priceless diamond, more magnificent than the highest mountain. A wonder of nature. Thank you God for sharing him with us. I miss him. We all miss him.

I'm happy to know from this terrific documentary that Nat King Cole was such a success with his work. Though anybody who had friends like Harry Belafonte, Frank Sinatra, Quincy Jones and Dean Martin must've had great connections. And how many record companies can refer to their head office as "The House that Nat built"? I grew up in a small pacific northwest town during the height of Nat's fame. Late 1950's - early 1960's. It seemed to me a wonderful American era. My grandfather had one of the only swimming pools around. Due to the chilly climate we could only use it about two months of the year. But in those two months my family took that backyard and pool to heart. There were the grownups around the barbecue doing burgers and ocean fish, the ladies sitting together in lawn chairs, everybody drinking beer while we kids plied our rubber ducky floatables through the currents of that pool ... while "Lazy, Hazy Days Of Summer" rang out through outdoor speakers over the scene. I thought that if this was how much fun it was to be a grownup, I had a lot to look forward to. Then I grew up and moved away to much larger towns ... where I discovered that life and the world was more dicey that I thought..

I really enjoyed this documentary. Nat Cole and Ella Fitzgerald were two of the most beautiful people ever!

I'm so grateful to hear Natalie, his sister, his wife Maria, Freddie, Quincy, Frank, and others. Nat was a beautiful guy and loaded with talent, a dear man. Carol his daughter appears to be his biological daughter; she strongly resembles him. Natalie had Nat's dad's hazel eyes. Nat was so well loved and recognized for his great talent by his peers. His wife Maria helped me to know Nat more. Wonderfully produced piece ❤

My memories go back to the late 50"s when I attended his concert in the iconic Amsterdam Concertgebouw. First heard him sing as a Teenager in Indonesia, on old shellac records. My fav was Mona Lisa because I was also in love with someone with that name. Hearing him life was MAGIC!!!

I grew up listening to the Nat King Cole records my father had. I used to rush home from school, get homework out of the way, and then listen to the smooth voice of one of the greatest singers the world has ever known. His diction was always perfect when he sang and every word was clearly understood.

This is incredible. KE-MO-KI-MO was our family song also. I have a 1940's glass record of the song by Nat, but sadly, it broke. I've saved it all these years hoping someone could repair it.

Thanks so ooo much for posting this! My local PBS station aired this documentary years ago during a pledge drive and I've been trying to find it since. The station edited a LOT of it. Many of these clips/interviews are new to me.

The Summit of vocalists. Mr Cole stands on top, never to be equalled, not even close. Unparalleled elegance and stature.

....and boy did he love Cuba and Cuban Music. He was The Greatest ever.

Growing up around the ankles of my grandfather I found myself listening and loving music from this era. In fact, my first boyhood crush was for Eartha Kitt. #classicovershare. The 80's to the mid 90's seemed to weigh heavily in favor of light skin and curly hair. Whereas the majority of Nat's era seemed to be filled with dark complected artists that "got the girl." So, as a child, I would escape my reality by daydreaming that I was as smooth, eloquent and sophisticated as these artists and actors.

I grew up listening to this man love his music very much .
