Almost eight years later and I still come back to this time after time. Feels like the Beijing Olympics were just yesterday. But man Nastia was probably one of the most graceful gymnasts ever.. I'm a dancer and I'm so incredibly jealous of her legs and feet. Her lines are just gorgeous!! She's my favorite gymnast of all time.

Shes so so fluid! I was watching last night and no one touches her in grace and technique. She might not be super powerful but you cant deny that when nastia was on her game like this night, she was THE BEST.

Probably the only gymnast I've ever seen who keeps her legs straight during the entire aerial front walkover.

yes, though I think shawns in the beam finals was better, gabby a close 3rd during the AA in '12. Pretty much the standard for American women.

I am going to sound pretentious, but Laurie and Simone's routine lack FLUIDITY. Beam is about effortlessly connecting all of your skills with grace. Simone is rock solid on the beam as well as Laurie, but they just don't have that style that Nastia has.

She is by far one of the most beautiful gymnasts there ever were

You're so right. So elegant. Just like her mother was when she was the national rhythmic gymnast champion. Her mom is so afraid to watch her compete that she didn't even stay in the building to watch her perform. Isn't that crazy?

"Wow! Stunning! The best!" says it all for me! No one does it like Nastia! There is a fluidity, wholeness, and grace in her work that is such a joy to watch. The pointed toes, graceful arms, straight legs. I've been watching complicated routines of recent years. Without the graceful dance elements as Nastia mastered, they are missing something...as difficult and complicated as they are.

This beam routine from Nastia literally steals the air from my lungs every time I watch it and it’s been over a decade. Truly one of the first and only times I experienced what “breathtaking” meant!

No one like her anymore... damnit I miss 2008.

Love how elegant and beautiful nastias routines are. None of the 2016 gymnasts had routines like hers

I think she was the last graceful gymnast. Sanne Wevers, who won the gold on balance beam in Rio, had a similar style, but she's a beam specialist and was never an all-around contender.

I remember this vividly...I was on holiday in Siesta Key, Florida at the time having a meal at Red Lobster. The entire restaurant went silent during this performance and cheered wildly at the end.

Her dismounts in this routine and the AA vault were just ridiculously perfect

I could watch her performances ALLLLLL DAYYYYY. Her legs and feet, always such beautiful lines. Such grace and fluidity. When you're truly, TRULY good at something......you make it look easy. She always made this look so simple!

I remember watching her and Shawn when I was a kid!!! She was the gymnast we all wanted to be 😭😭😭 nobody can ever match her grace, especially on beam. She didn't just hit her routine she performed it

IN MY OPINION, this doesn't even come CLOSE to the best Chinese beam workers! Some of these Chinese gymnasts could've been as gracious as or even more than Nastia WITH INCREDIBLY HIGHER DIFFICULTY! And I didn't even mentioned some of the Romanians...

She was a BEAUTIFUL gymnast. Her mom was a Rhythmic gymnast that’s why she has such beauty!

She was such an elegant performer. I'm so sad she retired ! No one can compete with her beauty , elegance , grace , rhythm , and flexibility !

The only gymnast, along with Viktoria Komova, that makes side somis look good

Everyone complains about wolf turns on beam but I think side somis are just dreadful to watch. For me, Komova is absolutely the only gymnast I ever want to see perform one.

This and Shannon Miller's 1991 Olympic Beam are my two fave beam routines of all time. GOATs :)

Her flexibility is like that of a rubber doll... Balancing is toughest part of balance beam...at time when she was just a little off balance..she just did some moves from her hands ..to make it more beautiful...and the dismount was done with utmost perfection...

She always had such beautiful lines through all of her skills.

I have very fond memories of this Olympics. I was jsut some gamer kid stuck in my room playing counter strike but it was Nastia who let me come out to watch and gain appreciation for the sport. Over a decade later still here.

Great routine with so many beautiful connecting elements. That dismount was everything.

Danielle Sprinkles She didn't make it because she waited a long time before coming back. Nastia had to get into incredible shape before this, and she didn't have time. At least with her, she brought home a medal in every event she qualified for (although her bars shouldn't have been since they were ugly).

If she was just s few months younger she could have competed in 2004. She was beating the seniors, with exception to Carly, back then. If only she would have started training earlier for 2012. I would have loved to see her UB & BM again.

+E Long Yup, Marta Karolyi even said back in 2004 that if Nastia had been old enough, she would have put her on the Olympic team, without any question.

She is incredible. I got goosebumps watching this. Incredible flexibility, creativity and poise

I watch this girl's performances so often - and never tire of them. Fluid, flexible, solid, challenging tumbling. She's got it all. Very poised, too.

In my opinion this was her best event. The poise she has is on full display on beam and she has almost no errors unlike her bars or floor. Beautiful and difficult work.

Ok so the score on this was 16.125. In the event final she got a 16.025. There were some slight balance checks but a stuck landing her, but in the event final she was perfect aside from a hop on the landing of the dismount.

I know this was so long ago but I think I have a new appreciation for Nastia. I was always a power gymnast and related more to Shawn, I wanted Shawn to win the all around so bad. I felt so clunky on beam and bars, I think I was jealous of Nastia, which is so weird to say, but hey I was only a teenager, the same age as Nastia actually, damn emotions don't know what they're talking about. Anyway, the point is, Nastia absolutely deserved the All Around gold even though to me she wasn't the favorite at all to win. Love her so much after all these years, so graceful and everything I could never be. What's the walkover thing? Onodi? Gorgoeous, she's such a pro at them.

It's crazy to me that next year, this routine will be a decade old. 10 freaking years. in my opinion, the 08 Beijing Olympics were the best Olympics of this generation. If your in your early 20s or late teens, chances are the Olympic Games you remember best is 2008 one. such nostalgia!
