NASCAR Wreckfest: 2011 Wonderful Pistachios 400
Спорт
The 2011 Wonderful Pistachios 400 has a case to be one of the wildest Richmond races in history, and my personal favorite. This race had everything- 15 caution flags, a big one, tempers, retaliation, crashes, strategy, great racing, a bunch of story lines, and it was the final race before the historic 2011 Chase for the Cup Championship.

When Martinsville comes around you should talk about the 2011 fall race. One of the most underrated races of all time.

As a Tony Stewart fan, I wholeheartedly agree. I've never seen Tony flip the script and win with a comeback like that in a more surprising way ever. (Even Homestead, his speed was never doubted- just circumstances). Martinsville, the way he held Denny off for getting lapped for several minutes, getting the caution, working on the car, getting a good strategy call, and that amazing restart. It's truly the one Tony win out of his 49 that if you told me on the halfway point he'd win I'd say zero chance you have to be lying. That surprise lit a fire in him like no other. Damn I have always loved that Martinsville race.

The fall night races at Richmond was such a vibe! I remember as a kid getting so excited for that race to set the chase. Watching it on TV I could feel the excitement through the screen

Crazy how good the racing at Richmond used to be compared to what we get now
This is without a doubt the best Richmond race in NASCAR history

Eh I still prefer the 2016 races
As a Diehard Jimmie Johnson fan I was back then, I'll never forget that moment when he retaliated back at Kurt Busch after getting wrecked earlier by him. Boys have At It
This was the first race i ever watched and i fell in love instantly
The first Nascar race I ever went to. I remember exploding of excitement when Harvick won, and Im finally going back this weekend. Hoping to see him win in person one last time.
I think spingate in 2013 was the wildest Richmond race in recent history‼️
I was at this race its the wildest one I've been to in person. Also got to meet Kurt busch which was really cool.
The 2016 fall race was just as chaotic. That race had 16 cautions, a track record.

True- I label this one as a little more "wild" because of all of the retaliation and tempers involved.

I was lucky enough to have gone to the 2016 race. Chaotic is an understatement lmao
What a classic race at Richmond
I was at this race, and outside the very end, it wasn't exactly crazy. Absolutely a terrific race and a ton of fun, but didn't seem all the chaotic at the time.
Wow I remember this race only because I raced at my local track lakeport speedway in my mini stock, and our night ended early cuz my best friend/teammate wrecked me. so dad and I loaded up went home, turned the TV on and Brian Vickers was wrecking Kasey Khane (His Teammate). We just couldn't believe that the cup race was such a wreck fest just like our tracks was at lakeport Speedway that night. I miss that era in life good times

Must’ve been a full moon that night. Lol
Do a NASCAR wreckfest video for the controversial 2008 Richmond cup spring race. That was second craziest.
Man wish I could've watched this race live in 2011 but the last race in 2011 I watched was IndyCar at Las Vegas and tuned in late. My local abc channel was hard to get back then and wish that wasn't the case. Still watched the full race on KZread though.
The only thing I remember about this race was the whole Jimmie Johnson and Kurt Busch drama. And it got even uglier after the race in the media center, as Kurt called out Jenna Fryer and told her that he never asked Jimmie what was going through in his head, and then after the media session was over, Kurt went over to Jenna, took her notes, ripped it apart, and then walked away. That was basically a preview of things to come that would eventually lead to Kurt Busch getting fired from Penske. I also remember Tony Stewart barely making it into the Chase. Little did anybody know that he would eventually score the championship later in the year. Also, if Spingate ended up happening in 2011 with Richard Childress Racing involved, would RCR still be in existence today? Would Michael Waltrip Racing still be around today?

I remember that race when I was a kid
ive lived in richmond since 2017 and go twice a year now kinda upset i missed the tracks prime

I have that Kyle Busch diecast signed and always wondered what race it was from and didn’t know until watching this video

I had season tickets from 2015-2020. Saw one good race at Richmond. I don’t know what happened to the track, it just fell off

From laps 9 to 11 they went silent
As a Gordon fan I’m still bitter about this one. Everyone and their grandmother knows full well Paul Menard intentionally brought out that caution to help his teammate. Harvick wasn’t going to beat Jeff if it goes caution free the rest of the way.
Post race was epic as well. "Pull your Twitter"

Looking back at the point system used then....I wish we could go back to the top 10 or 12, points racing for the last 10 races. None of this win and you're in BS IMO, it cheapens the sport and makes people want to do stupid shit for wins. Gimme a 2004 to 2011 era Chase if we must have some sort of playoffs...top 10 or 12 in points, and those 10 or 12 go all out for 10 races. None of this guaranteed four drivers (and let's face it the championship race has sucked since they introduced it), 2011 was arguably the high point of playoff NASCAR with Tony vs Carl for the whole last race

in 2011 on it was the top 2 plus two wildcards it just happened the wildcards were almost always 11th and 12th in points

I never liked the win & your in either. The stage racing has grown on me. It reminds me of the heat races/ feature races of the local dirt track races. But I hate win and you’re in & the manipulation of the points/ championship.

I'd rather have individual heats though than stages, if they want to break the races up, then fine, but have heats then the main event though. Is that so hard to do? I'm a traditionalist. I like dropping the green, running the full distance, without stage breaks at all. I mean the DTM at one point had qualifying races that were mini heats over here, you have had the BTCC have a sprint race for literal years on the Saturday then the main race on the Sunday, F1 has sprint races now... Why can't NASCAR have heat races to set the grid, a la Duels. They have shown with that they are willing to do so, they've had LCQ races across the various series off and on for ages...u@@rickyrudd28texacohavolinef2
Look how unexcited all of the driver's signing autographs for those who paid hundreds of dollars in the Paddock this is one of many reasons why these drivers do not deserve your support and I no longer support Nascar. Change your lives and discover GT3 Racing. IMSA, SRO Fanatec and the WEC. Tour the paddock, talk to the drivers and the mechanics. Touch the cars and, get autographs from drivers that are happy to do it and talk to you. However, If you are one of those who boo drivers and throw crap out on the track, stick to Nascar.
