NASCAR Busts: David Stremme

Спорт

David Stremme is without question a hell of a wheelman in most racing series he competes in. However, when it comes to NASCAR, he'll be forever known as another bust.

That's a defense? He had Sterling's and Newman's car. I think he just jumped to cars that were not prepared for him to drive like he did before, pushing. I think the difference that would of been good if he adopted Rusty's driving style, because Rusty knows when to not push the car when it isn't going to work.

First rule of wrecking a driver: Wreck the right driver! I literally knew Stremme was gonna be a NASCAR Bust in *2004* when he tried to wreck one driver at Bristol, ended up wrecking another instead... AND it nearly caused a fight! If you know, you know.

One thing I should point out is that after Stremme got let go by Ganassi after the 2007 season, he was replaced by Indycar driver Dario Franchitti (who had won the previous year's Indy 500) in the #40. This move pissed off Michael Andretti & Andretti Autosport (who Franchitti drove for in Indycar) big time because Chip Ganassi basically used the promise of a full time ride in NASCAR to steal a top driver away from one of their biggest rivals in Indycar. However Franchitti did even worse than Stremme in the #40 not even completing the full season (he only entered 14 races) & his highest finish was 22nd at Martinsville. The #40 team was disbanded after the 2008 season & Franchitti went over to the Indycar side of Ganassi where he won Indycar titles in 2009, 2010 & 2011 before his career was ended in an awful wreck at the Houston GP in 2013.

@Black Flags Matter Knew that this was coming eventually. Sad thing is, as is the case for most NASCAR busts, if he’d stayed in lower divisions for more development time, he could’ve been a winning Cup driver, and the “Silver Bullet” could’ve gone out with at least one more win. Strangely enough, even though he wasn’t the hardest working driver in the world, you probably could make the same argument for another CGR driver in Reed Sorenson as well. ALSO: I’ll never forget the moment when Michael Waltrip spun Stremme around at Sonoma on the last lap for blocking, and Waltrip’s spotter congratulated him l, and called Stremme an A-Hole over the radio. 😂

I will say in the last few years, I've become a huge fan of his. He has relocated from NC to PA and I've heard him do several talks about his racing career and racing in general. He has said he went really quickly from ASA to the Cup series, but as he said, he was the last developmental driver to make it to Cup. But his knowledge and connections in racing are amazing and he really has his finger on everything from NASCAR to national and local dirt tracks and paved short track racing.

That is not remotely true. In the CRA Super Series I watched many of their regulars consistently beat nascar talent. One guy in particular dominated that series and I never understood why no one gave him a ride. He dominated when Chase Elliott, Ryan Blaney, Eric Jones, and John Hunter Nemechek, T.J. Reid and Stremme himself to name a few were running fulltime schedules in the series. In the last turn of the last lap of the Redbud 400 this guy named Steve Doer passed Chase Elliot for the win on the outside. Something I've never seen happen at Anderson. There's video of it on youtube.

Much like with many NASCAR busts, David Stremme was rushed to the cup series. If he was given couple more seasons in the Xfinity series, I think he would have been a top 15 driver week in and out. ALso didn't help he went to Ganassi when they were rebuilding in the mid 2000s.

If both Dillons drives for RCR then Ty might have an better career. Perhaps an win or 2 in Cup if he drove for RCR with his brother.

No doubting David Stremme as a nascar bust but I will admit his last few years in Cup driving underfunded equipment, David did somewhat impress me and he definitely drove with more maturity, especially for Inception Motorsports in 2012 when as a Start and Park his job was to get them in the show as many times as he could and he usually did and then again in 2013 helping guide Swan Racing through that season by keeping it straight most races.

My perspective is different than all you clowns piling on David. He's the nicest "kid" Ive ever had the privelege of knowing. Why? Simply stated, I raced at our local northern Indiana tracks in the lowest division: Mini-stocks, at New paris, plymouth, south bend, baer field and kalamazoo. Anytime I had a problem with my car, David and his entire family, Dad Lou, Mom Cindy, and younger brother bobby and there crew members were always willing to help me out. Additionally, David is one of few people nowadays who can design, build and set the car up. Back in the day he also used to build his own motors. To me he is and always will be a northern Indiana short track legend. He's a kid from the west side of south bend who worked his ass off and got to the highest level of the sport. It's just sad that he was never given the top notch equipment. Unfortunately he's not the only racer that this has happened to nor will he be the last. I'm proud of him and glad Ashley convinced him to start a family, because nothing compares to being a Dad.
