Depends on how large, how fast and how close to the impact zone you are. The safest is still to simply not be near where it hits if it does hit which for Apophis is that it won't hit, we know it's orbit and we know the chance of a collision is very low. Problem is, most of the near Earth asteroids have yet to be observed and their orbits calculated and many that do hit Earth have never been observed at all, 70 tons per year burn up in our atmosphere and hit unpopulated areas of the Earth (mostly the oceans). This just happens to be one natural catastrophe that we might be able to predict and do something about, question is will we...

It's it's an asteroid that 500 to 800 feet wide or the size of the effiel tower, that will cause insane damage. Doubt we'd survive, and not necessarily just the impact but the debris and dust would block out the sun for over a year or even longer. It would be winter basically, plants and vegetation would die. That's what we would more than likely die from. Also if it hit the water it would send massive tsunamis and devastate the coasts as well and flood the interior as well. Just look at what that tiny one did in Ukraine was it? It shattered windows and shook the ground. What so you think one that's 500 feet wide would do hurdling at 27000+ mph.
Please hit earth, we done fucked up

DART's success in deflecting Dimorphos was due to the momentum transfer associated with the recoil of the ejected debris, which was substantially larger than that caused by the impact itself redirect test was not successfully completed it was a nudge that barely moved the asteroid inconclusive outcome
