    Awesome video! Maybe you can make videos summarizing the discoveries and accomplishments of some of the iconic missions such as Voyager, Viking, and Cassini-Huygens. That would be great! Also a similar video to this for the upcoming ExoMars mission would be cool;)

    The explanation about the gravity assist is a bit lacking; it's not just a simple speed boost. A gravity assist can be used to speed up, slow down, do plane changes, ... I think this is a better way to think about it: 1) in the frame of reference of the assisting body, only the *direction* of the object's velocity is being changed. A bit like a kid grabbing a wooden pole to change direction while running. The object will leave the gravitational sphere of influence of the assisting body at the same speed that it entered, but its trajectory has been bent. 2) in the frame of reference of the sun, speed will be increased if this change in direction is towards the "front", i.e. the direction that the assisting body is traveling in its orbit. Speed will decrease if this change is towards the "back". Towards radial (or anti-radial) or normal (or anti-normal) will have other effects. In practice it's always a combination of all of these.

    I'm not sure you answered one of the most obvious questions that comes from all these animations: Why does Juno spin? Also, what are the thrusters doing in the animations? They seem to be firing in the opposite direction of the spin, which would make me think they are slowing down the spacecraft's spin, but that doesn't happen. EDIT: Google just answered my question: www.quora.com/What-is-the-purpose-of-rotation-provided-to-the-Juno-spacecraft

    There's a world shortage of the isotope they use, because they haven't produced it since 1988. I think the reason being it often is a byproduct of weaponised uranium. They only have 10s of kgs left of the stuff at the moment!

  • @FriedEgg101

    They end missions because they don't want to risk losing control of probes in orbit around gas giants.

  • @ahriman935

    It's not about running out of power, but running out of rocket fuel, which allows for orbital corrections. Cassini had plenty of nuclear power to go for years more, but it was out of fuel. We don't know how long Juno is going to stay around Jupiter, there's some sort of end-date right now, but it's almost certain it will be extended once or twice much like other NASA missions beyond asteroid belt, especially now that they decided Juno will stay on the longer orbit, spending less time in Jupiter's radiation belts. Bottom line, no one knows when Juno mission will end as of yet.

    Question - Give all the tech whizbangery, It should be possible to take long distance images using the powerful telescopes.eg. Hubble...or is that not useful at all?. These simulations are cool CGI, but how about the real images/video too? Would love to see those. Otherwise its kinda like "the hitch hikers guide to the galaxy" TV show??

  • @astrumspace

    @astrumspace

    Check the annotation at the end of the video for real images of Jupiter. Hubble does take some clear photos, but obviously not on the same level as an orbiter. Like it was mentioned, the last orbiter was 2003, so there's been a big gap in time of close up imagery. Also, Juno itself should give us some beautiful views very soon!

    Juno can send and receive data using an antenna, and we send and receive data using giant radio dishes from Earth! For example i.kinja-img.com/gawker-media/image/upload/t_original/xp72tzr6bkeokjkjedeb.jpg

    most signals are sent as EM waves travelling at the speed of light. so most prob it will take 48 light minutes to reach juno

    They say Juno has a special camera on it that's like the I phone and it took a motion video of Jupiter and it's moons. Well, when Juno was traveling away from earth, why didn't they turn it around and take a motion video of earth so we can see a real video of earth and it's moon in motion or when it came back to earth to be sling shot out towards Jupiter? You would think that in that video Juno took, Jupiter would be a lot larger than that being that it is the so called largest planet of all the other so called planets. If you watch the video of Jupiter and it's moons, watch how the moons disappear when they go around the back side of Jupiter. I know it's because the sunlight is being blocked out by Jupiter, but look how fast they reappear. Now for as massive Jupiter is suppose to be, wouldn't you think that those moons wouldn't reappear that fast? They want us to think that those moons are in orbit around Jupiter in high rates of speed. Take another look at that video and look at the moon in orbit far out to the right of Jupiter. Notice how slow it's moving. One would say, it's moving slow like that because it's not as close to Jupiter as the other moons are. Well, in this CGI video, they got it wrong! That moon should be moving faster than that on the simple fact that, Jupiter should be a lot bigger in that video and the so called gravitational pull of Jupiter would have pulled that moon into it millions of years ago orbiting that slow!

  • @astrumspace

    @astrumspace

    8 жыл бұрын

    It's all about perspective. Juno did actually take photos of Earth as it left. And also this video was sped up considerably to show the moons movement. Plus, a lot of this video is CGI!

    Where are the photos Juno took of earth? Never mind that question, where is the video that Juno took of the earth so Nasa can speed that up also. NEVER A STRAIGHT ANSWER(NASA). There are no real videos of earth in motion and there never will be! It will always be CGI that NASA puts out to keep the lie going. The alarm clock is sounding so wake up!
