Never been so disappointed in a reaction. Hopefully his next discord discussion I can pull up and explain it to him coherently.

Basically the first time Itachi said that to Sasuke was to paint himself as the evildoer who massacred his family due to a selfish goal, to give Sasuke’s the Hate he needed to stay alive at all cost to kill his brother one day. How many times did Sasuke say the only reason he was alive was to kill his brother? The second time, Itachi pushed Sasuke even further to strengthen his hate and so his desire to get stronger, because he didn’t have long to live. The moment Itachi would die, there would be nothing to stop Danzo from killing Sasuke. The only way to guarantee Sasuke’s safety was for him to get strong enough to actually protect himself at all times.

well.. A: he wanted to keep himself the villain in Sasuke's eyes to keep him proud of the Uchiha and loyal to the leaf. B: He wanted him to have motivation to become stronger C: He wanted him to awaken his mangekyo

Itachi had to carry that hatred. He couldn’t tell the truth about why he did what he did. So the only option he had was to give Sasuke the poetic mission to come avenge the clan. But he truth was told and complicated things

Danzo and the Elders got what they wanted which was essentially the extinction of the Uchia clan lol. So I dont understand this idea of Itachi getting the final "fuck you".

People who are mad a bit silly, but I'm a bit confused tbh. Didn't Itachi literally just stop the reanimation jutsu and (the intention was to stop the war but it didnt) saved hundreds if not thousands more from dying on the battlefield? But he is still labeled a failure? I don't get what the standard is for being a failure if that's this is the case is all He fucked up with Sasuke, badly, but it's not like he really had a choice in that moment, the Uchiha were already going to be wiped out as soon as Danzo caught wind of a coup

Even his dad confirmed it, Itachi CHOSE to exterminate his clan instead of really trying to talk to them first.

He did it because he wanted sasuke to avenge the uchiha clan and become the hero and person to restore the uchiha clan by killing itachi. he also wanted sasuke to obtain the mangekyou. At the end itachi recognize that everything he did was a failure because he never expected sasuke to be a rouge ninja and he understand that he should of just told him straight from the beginning. Itachi was only 13 when the massacre happened he was manipulated by both sides.

@@Mope333being smart and a genius does NOT mean that you are wise, wisdom comes with time and experiences, Itachi probably thought that it would go the way he envisioned, with sasuke getting stronger, avenging the uchiha, and restoring the uchiha name and continuing living as a leaf shinobi, but he failed because he never anticipated sasuke going rogue.

@@Mope333 i have no idea how saitama is brought in this conversation but, Itachi was still a kid and lacked wisdom, there is literally nothing to debunk here, no matter how smart you are and how gifted you are, you will still make mistakes due to your own lack of wisdom, and thats what happened to Itachi. And IMO what makes itachi the goat isn’t his actions, or his own failures. Its his own intentions behind these decisions, he did everything he thought of to try and save and make sasuke stronger, save the hidden leaf, and keep the uchiha name clean by making them a victim. The only thing he did NOT anticipate was his own brother going rogue.

Itachi was only a kid when he did all that, he was only 13. He just wanted sasuke to take him out cuz he felt he deserved to be taken out by another uchiha. He wanted sasuke to kill him so he can awaken the mangekyo cuz even though he hated itachi at the moment itach was still sasuke brother and sasuke seeing the only family he has left dieing it would awaken the mangekyo in sasuke, and also he wanted sasuke to take his eyes so he could defend the leaf from tobi.

@@Mope333 not every character is perfect, he didn’t believe in sasuke to be able to resolve the conflict. He was put in a situation where he had to decide what course of action would be the most favorable in Sasuke’s future and to maintain peace in the Leaf village.

“Itachi is trash” man you’re completely lost. You think sasuke is the best? He’s the most toxic and useless person till now because of the way he treats his friends and people around him. Sasuke is the worst character in the show currently, and that is partly because of itachi not telling him the truth, but mostly because he’s so dumb that he doesn’t understand itachi’s motivations and philosophy. And again he’s so dumb that he got played by a dying danzo and tobi who is trying to use him. The same tobi who itachi saw through, and that is why he was in the akatsuki as a spy for the leaf.
