I don't know... Not being able to say no as a DM is usually bad. It just shows that the players were good and the OP creative enough to make it interesting. I know some players that can really screw up a game (usually for the other players) pretty badly if given too much freedom. I guess it worked here because it was the party vs the DM, instead of player vs other players.

Not even slightly, the DM could have just played it off as "You create a new universe but the sheer effort and power involved leaves you stretched and thin. I mean, if Rubix wanted an anime D&D campaign then what's there to get mad about? Turning yourself into an overpowered god and recreating the multiverse while playing by the lore's rules has got to be one of the most anime things ever. I can picture Richtoros floating in the void nude (stylistic shadows hiding the naughty bits), reflecting on what has just transpired, how he's responsible for the world's destruction, is he a monster, was it all for nothing, blah blah blah, before going: "I... I understand now. This new beginning is *me*. I am the God of my own world. My own universe. And if I learn to love and believe in myself, I can create a new multiverse better than the old one! This is the true meaning of being human!" and then projections of Bard, Cleric, Barbarian and all the major npcs appear around him, clapping and going: "Congratulations!" "Congratulations!" "Congratulations!" "Congratulations!"

I played this high school punk girl in this sort of "magical girls" mostly narrative campaign. While the concept sounded weird the DM was great, and the setting was more a call of cthulhu than anime stile. During the history I got my superpower, teleport, and the more the adventure went on, the more I collected magic, lowering the cooldown of my power. In the final battle the bbeg pulled out a Thanos with his best attack, and while we were slowly turning into nothing I asked to the two other dying teammates to give me their magic. They basically killed themselves in order to die before me, and my 0,5 seconds cooldown became -0,5. Which I quickly realised ment that I could have existed simultaneously everywhere, even in the past. So I went back in time, half second after half second, until I reached the big bang, and manipulated the universe in order to replicate everything that happened and turned my remaining companions in something like daevas. And this is why in our adventures set in modern fantasy god is a punk girl that wears a green Day t-shirt and combat boots.

Well, not exactly a fast one. The new 5e rules just surprised us all. I was playing an Illithid Cthulhu-Warlock who fled his sunless city after finding out how to wake Cthulhu. Pacts are one thing, but what is a destroyed world worth? Especially when I live on it? Anyway, our group bought a mansion on a cliff (less "Batman" than "Spartacus" if anyone actually saw that show) that turned out to be much larger than it should be for the price we paid. Turned out there was a cave in the cliffside with a Black Dragon and a whole tribe of enslaved Kuo-Toa. After a little research (opening the Monster Manual and just looking at the pictures) we decided not to kill the slaves. So we dispatched the Dragon. My Eldritch Blast landed the last strike, so I immediately declared myself the new master of the tribe. We had a few encounters with some of the Kuo-Toa so we knew they were not ready to tackle the world without guidance, so that was the plan all along, I just acted because i laid the final blow. So, the GM read the flavortext for a few minutes, started laughing hysterically and asked me to make an Int-Check. Turns out Kuo-Toa are completely mad because their entire race was enslaved by, and subjected to the mindaltering abilities of: The Mindflayers. Ooops! For thousands of years and hundreds of generations. Double Ooops!! Yea, maybe the Mindflayer of the Group should have given someone else the reigns. Oh, well. Of course they accepted me immediately as their master. However after some more research we found out that the Kuo-Toa had a far more interesting ability. Their collective madness is so powerful that they can bend reality. If enough of them believe in something, it happens. So i told them i was their god, and to start breeding... Our GM was fine with it.

I'll never attack someone for what they like, everyone has a preference and an opinion. Nothing wrong with that. But when every new anime season I see at least 4 new harem series all of which is the exact same thing as all of the others but with new girls and slightly different story that is essentially genaric every day boy who is handsome but is the least popular person for x-reason gets the attention of the most popular girl and thus sexy chaos ensues, yeah my opinion of current generation of anime had plummeted. If you want to get into anime I suggest looking at series that began before 2009 in all honesty, there are a few exceptions, Goblin Slayer is legitimately an anime told through the eyes of a D&D campaign, if your into psychology and confrontation of social morality and mental health issues and abuse I suggest looking into Tokyo Ghoul, and if you like Japanese Mythology and demonology I suggest both Demon Slayer and Dororo *the entire series of Dororo is here on KZread last I checked*. It was eight pages, and we got the briefest summary of the wish. HOWEVER, I would point out that the power itself exists as part of the universe. As in, if the universe itself is destroyed, on what and from what is the power acting? As an example from a different campaign setting, if you cast a wish within the Forgotten Realms, even if you homebrew it so that it doesn't have the normal limitations of the Wish spell, the spell is still powered by the Weave. It is limited to what the Weave can affect, and if the wish DESTROYS the Weave, then it's hard to argue that the Wish caster still has power. In this case, the caster got the power by passing between two universes. By my understanding, he basically becomes a lucid dreamer, but of that universe's reality, and that's where he got his power. Well, hard to argue that he's successfully lucid dreaming a reality when the reality is completely gone... and so is the one from which he got the power. Also, I don't think the caster in this case knew the universe was going to be destroyed, so I think it's unlikely he wished all the power in the universe into himself in advance.

  • @ArshikaTowers

@@Mythraen Yes, we are judging on incomplete information. However, if the power he got was from the two realities interacting with each other; and his dream effectively destroyed the two realities. The source of his power may be himself, but the reality in which those powers manifest is destroyed; the weave with it. Without the weave, magic doesn't exist. So yes, he my still have all of his power; but nothing will manifest without the weave's influence to make it manifest. All magic is a manipulation of the weave, anti magic zones the weave is broken down and destroyed, so no magic. He effectively made the entire universe (Or lack thereof) an anti-magic zone.

simple answer to that dilemma, the armor with all the granted powers becomes itself sentient, controls to the person wearing the armor, that person being immortal by any account would make them the perfect symbiotic host. armor is under the DMs power, there for still an NPC, just re-writes the campaign universe there forward.

The big bang ending reminds me of the game my group played where I "accidentally" made a city. The city became the mid to late game for his next campaign, after a bit of a rail-roading to get pcs up to level. (levels 5 to... I think it died at level 15? for when the city was used by the GM.) The game where we made the city died at level 17, and 100 years passed, and only a new avata.... wait, wrong story. 100 years passed, then we wrote off my old character with death by alcohol. *Technically death by acid, a weakness of the character. The GM would turn to me for how the city itself would interact with the party. It was a massive sprawling space that was lawfully run with illegal enterprises upholding the laws as well as law enforcement. A city where money could buy you anything, even immunity to the law. The downside was that I was never asked to give the notes I made for the city. This city/country was 120 miles across, at least 3 miles deep, and was a flying chunk of earth. It was kept flying through magic and technological engines and propulsion methods, using some ruins found in the universe it was set in. This was a Pathfinder game. There were 13 concentric pentagrams ending in a 5 foot square at the center of the entire city, in the middle of the central spire/tower that was the final channeling point for the massive magics the city used. The contingencies for this city included using high-level wizards, sorcerers, clerics, and all who could cast a "wish" to scribe it onto a scroll for their final exam in the colleges and schools that were in this city. These wishes were then checked and cast to improve the city's defense grid, functionality, mundane functions, and improve propulsions methods. Basically, this city was the crazy method of me trying to write off every method of destruction, rebellion, insurrection, invasion, and anything else I could imagine. The defense systems for the city were laid out in notes I still have. I laid out every since copper spent on the defense systems. From magic item creation to the triggering events, from the time delays, guard activations, turret firings, main gates, shops, homes, buildings, you name it I tried to write it down. The city never had a static layout excluding the spire. (Partially because when I tried to map it on a sheet of paper ~9 feet across my grids were about 500 feet as opposed the 5 feet. ) Errata'd logic for the city was that it got flung into the multiverse due to an event where someone, player errata'd and approved to have been my character in the future, was tinkering with the staff of time, unbreakable major artifact, and was somehow causing it to crack and break under the stress. These ripples caused an event that that started flickering reality between alternate versions of how things could play out. (Also got us 3 wishes that derailed the main plot, and I derailed this plot.) This incident ended with my wish to take the staff from where and when it was being broken to me at that moment. This caused the city to fracture out into the multiverse, existing in most realities simultaneously, or near enough. // TLDR: I wrote off this city as a possible inclusion for any campaign that wanted it by throwing it into the multiverse as its own separate plane. One day I will remember to write the whole story of this campaign and city. Then I will finish writing up what the city was designed to be used for in other campaigns.

This video's a year old, but I still come back to it every now and again. Because I love it. It's not the first video I saw on this channel, but it IS the one that convinced me to subscribe to the channel, simply because this is just an amazing story on a literally epic scope. And, despite the faults with Rubix, I'm with OP; that despite his incompetence and arrogance, he did plant the seeds for a truly epic campaign ending (even if I would never with for someone to trudge through the rest of it). And I do LIKE the idea of the setting, even if it came form nowhere; with the campaign world being the dream world of the real world and vice versa and coming through the veil and back basically making you a God. It's such a cool concept and I'm glad OP got to yank the rug from under Rubix and create basically a D&D Multiverse and usurp the DM Chair.

14:47 "To be fair, you have to be very smart to understand Dungeons and Dragons homebrew campaigns. The rules are extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of sci-fi fantasy most of the details will go over a typical party's heads. There's also Derabo's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation- his personal philosophy draws heavily from Dragon Ball Z literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of his jokes, to realise that they're not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike DnD homebrew truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Derabo's existential catchphrase "Wubba Lubba Dub Dub," which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev's Russian epic Fathers and Sons. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as my genius wit unfolds itself on their campaign notes. What fools.. how I pity them." ~ Rubix the DM. I am probably going to regret posting this.

I didn't pulled a fast one on my DM, I pulled on the system. I was play a campaign (that lasted for about three years) on Old Dragon, a rpg system that brings back the hardships of the old system. The history was about, resumed, the titans dragons who existed before the gods are returning, to make the world go back to the primal entropy, killing the gods and everything that wasn't a dragon. The system makes very hard to players survive, in high risk/high reward missions to gain advantage to your races/kingdoms, we suffered 2 TPKs one encounter with only half of the party survived. I was the player who died the most, a front liner or tank until reviving spell became a option die was ridiculous easy, and I always jumped in front to danger to save the others. I even remake my story to be from a dwarven clan, who the chief was to be out in mission to help the world, and the wife/husband leads everybody. I mastered the rules and could foresee 3 turns of the combat, sometimes the DM asked for a tricky rule or some strange interaction. But always was a fighter, 3 times, or a cleric, one, in the final step of the campaign my friend who always plays a mage was try be a cleric, I usually take the missing role and ended being the mage, at level 15. When picking the spells, I noticed a very interesting one: "Permanence" a 5° level spell that can make any 3° or lower that has duration, last forever until dispelled or similar. Okay! Mage armor, Shield, flying, extrasensory perception, "arcane strength", detect magic, etc, all permanent. The assassin needs no be seen? Invisibility last until he attacks or cast a spell, no time limit. It's was so overpowering that I asked to my DM to nerf the spell, every small spell that would be powerful if had a longer duration, lasting forever? And from anyone spell on anything. Or I discovered a loophole in the magic system or the developers let a mistake slip away.

Power has a source. Whatever immunity he was granted must stem from another world - power - being. If he was granted immunity FIRST then the rest of his powers couldnt pierce his barrier, scattering into the cosmos, destroying everything, including whatever source supplies his immunity. Everything would be erased still, but he would die last.

This was done in a 5e lvl 20 one-shot set in the Doom universe. You know, power armors, demons, blood all that good stuff. My DM made a good few homebrew decisions, just to spice things up, like weapons and abilities and I started probing him about the extends of these homebrews. However, he removed the cap from fall damage AND he increased the damage to 1d12 per 10 feet. This was when a lightbulb exploded in my head. So I started researching a bunch of movementspeed increasing stuff and actually got some of it greenlit with my DM. So I meet up at our session. We had a giant robot player, in the lines of a Barbarian or whatever, a tiny robot player in the role as something of a Bard, we had a soldier as a Fighter and myself, as a Tabaxi Wizard named Duncan, but I spent time doing some weaksauce Wizard stuff like Fireball spam. We started off on a spaceship and later we crash-landed on the planet, under attack from some demons we quickly disposed of. This campaign was in the spirit of Doom, so it was focused on killing a crapload of demons while having fun. We went through the labratory, where we encountered some demons here and there and at the objectives we got, we encountered some bigger stuff, but nothing we couldn't handle. The Bard did some cage-voodoo at one of the minibosses, which meant he was imprisoned for ages, while he was on fire and unable to move, which meant he burned to death before he got out. Anyways, we continue through the lab and get some generators online and kill more demons. We eventually reach an elevator, which we got on and rode it a few levels down, where we were greeted by a giant hand that immediately grappled the Bard and tossed him across the room, where he fell prone and we rolled initiative against the GIGANTIC demon, towering well over even our big barbarian robot companion. Big Baddie time and I got ready to unleash what I had planned for. The fight started, and I went first. Immediately I cast Banishment on the demon and the DM was about to roll a saving throw when I kindly handed him a 4, from my Portent Divination Wizard. The demon vanished, however, the DM wasn't having it, so he described as a tiny crystal slowly fell to the ground, shattering into a portal that sucked us all into the Hell dimension, where we witnessed the dead demon being brought back to life in blood-filled manners, true to Doom's gorefilled fantasy. The fight went on, the Demon took his turn, he caged us in and started throwing attacks at us. I succeeded all of the saves and survived, while our Bard was knocked out and our Barbarian and Fighter still barely standing. They took their attacks at the boss, doing some pretty decent damage, however, I was just biding my time, waiting for the DM to call for my turn again, sitting there with a smile on my face. My original plan was almost executed before the crystal exploded, but this time, there was no extra dimension for the demon to pull us to, and so my turn came. I cast Plane Shift and handed the DM another 4, automatically moving the Demon to another realm of existance and with no boss in the arena, the others had no other choice but to let me execute my plan. I cast Haste on myself and then, through a jetpack I had gotten from the ship, I used Fly. With my Boon of Speed I had talked the DM into giving me, along with my Mobile feat and Tabaxi racial stuff, I was able to move almost 6000 feet straight up into the air, before my Haste ran out and I decided to finalize my plan. Hell has no limit, as the DM himself had said, in any direction. And thus, I cast Gate and summoned the demon to me. The DM was confused and scared, he had anticipated before the session had begun, that I wanted to do some weird stuff, but I don't think he had thought about something like this. The demon fell. The demon fell for 5940 feet. The demon was falling for around a minute. The demon hit the ground. The demon took 594d12 damage. The demon took around 4000 damage. The demon did not survive. I had Feather Fall as a backup, in case I couldn't fly back down. The barbarian player was amazed that I had thought so much about it. The Fighter was confused, as I don't think he was clear that we had homebrewed a bunch of stuff. The bard player was angry, because he had apparently picked Bard to do some shenanigans too, but I took his spotlight. I think this session broke my DM, as he since has been almost paranoid of casters and cursing magic in his games since. He's a nice guy though and still DMs, and is pretty good at it, still letting us use magic and all that. I wouldn't have done anything like this in an actual campaign, but it was fun to exploit my DM's apparent lack of foresight or comprehension of the mechanics.
