    This actually helped explain without opening them. I was outfitting a small stop the bleed kit. I ordered two off Amazon and they were just the compressed gauze. Same form factor and visually near identical to the NAR Z fold I have. Noticed a different NSN number. Didn't want to open it to check the diff. Now I know. Thanks.

    you can still pack wounds with the Compressed gauze and

    You can. It’s a pain to unroll when it’s compressed together and you’re wound packing though.

    Do I need scissors to cut the compressed gauze or can i just tear it?

    You will need scissors to cut it. You won’t be able to simply tear it with your hands.

    I think it’s a marketing ploy. Compressed gauze will work too. The z fold design is convenient by deployment and not mandatory.

    Compressed gauze is useable. I don’t think it’s entirely a marketing ploy though. That compressed gauze is a pain to unroll under stress. I prefer to have regular gauze or the z-fold. The wound packing gauze is also a completely different type of gauze that won’t fall apart as easy as the compressed which makes it better for wound packing. Just my opinion.

    In regards to a medical kit or standard trauma kit, should you have one of each type in a IFAK or will either work for packing and helping with bleed control?

    I would recommend having at least the wound-packing gauze. You can use it to pack a wound but could also use it to bandage minor injuries if needed. I personally don't carry the regular compressed guaze. If I carry rolled gauze, I get the cheaper rolls that are not compressed. That's just my personal preference. Hope this helps!

    Isn't the compressed gauze basically Kerlix? I thought Kerlix was good for packing wounds.

  • @SixEcho

    @SixEcho

    2 жыл бұрын

    Is it basically compressed Kerlex. Kerlex however is not the best option for wound packing since it’s a loose weave and lots of the fibers come off in the wound making debridement later a much larger task. Use it if that’s all you have, but it’s preferred to have a tighter gauze like the wound packing gauze. And having it Z-folded or S-rolled is a plus as well. Hope this helps!

    Would you recommend self-adhesive bandages as an alternative for securing a wound dressing? That's what I used when I used to do contact sports and I feel like it's much more secure than gauze with surgical tape.

  • @SixEcho

    @SixEcho

    2 жыл бұрын

    Yes, surgical tape is better for IVs and also for when you want to remove tape from skin. But if it’s just on a bandage or dressing then something a bit stickier would be better. Can even use duct tape if you wanted. Just try to keep it off the skin and only on the bandage.

    What's the purpose of compressed gauze? The same use as a bandage which is to wrap around a wound after it's been stuff with wound packing gauze?

  • @SixEcho

    @SixEcho

    Жыл бұрын

    It’s just a smaller way to store and carry regular gauze. You can use it to wrap and dress wounds but it’s smaller than a standard roll. More expensive than a standard roll as well.

    Yeah, we don’t stock the compressed gauze so I don’t track the price on that. Looks like the compressed gauze is $3 and the wound packing is $4.

    But why shouldn't I use compressed gauze for wound packing? What's the reason?
